November Heating Up
Jim Rouse (11-5-12) Ocala, FL – Night Of A Thousands returns with the Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. Also, Fan Appreciation is back with $20 carloads! (A car with 5 seatbelts would get 5 people in for $20 total) This is the final shake-down before Bubba Is Thankful Weekend in 2 weeks so you won’t want to miss this all out tussle.
The last Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Car race saw a different face in Coors Light Winner’s Circle as Shawn Murray was able to beat some new faces in Brandon Grubaugh and Tony Agin at the end. Matt Kurtz had a rare DNF as he got taken out in an accident early on but he still has a sizable points lead over the field. Danny Martin, Jr. has the #82 back up to pace as he unlapped himself once and was 1 car away from twice unlapping himself in a drive that showed how he won the 2011 title. Mark Ruel, Jr. vowed to be back after a wild ride and you can never forget about Ryan Partin, Collin Cabre, Robbie Smith, and Tyler Godwin.
Kyle Bronson looks to tie a record for most wins in a single season, 13, in a division that races just 21 features! He’ll have 3 shots at it but odds say #40B will visit Coors Light Winner’s Circle soon. Jeff Mathews will try to spoil Bronson’s party as will Dalton Lanich of the Chris Williams team. Lanich and step-father Kent Corbin are always the sentimental favorites and both have been close the last month. Never count out Garret Stewart, Lanich’s team-mate, or Buzzie Reutimann as they know right where Victory Lane is. The season has been all about #40B but everyone else has everything to play for. Matt Sheppard Three-Peats: Crowned Super DIRTcar Series Champion Third Year in a Row
Young Driver, Just 30, of Waterloo, N. Y., First Ever to Win Three Consecutive Series Titles
CONCORD, N. C. – Nov. 5, 2012 – Two-time consecutive Super DIRTcar Series Champion Matt Sheppard made it to the top again this year, becoming the first Big-Block Modified driver to score three series championship titles in a row.
“It put my name in the record books for a little while. It means a lot to me,” said the 30-year-old Sheppard of Waterloo, N. Y. “The first one was great, you always remember that; the second one was remarkable, it was just as good as the first one; but to win the third in a row, just the face that nobody’s ever done it before, that’s something really special.”
Sheppard and the team traveled with the series to The Dirt Track at Charlotte still in a heated points race going into PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals presented by NAPA Auto Parts. Jimmy Phelps and Brett Hearn were both within reach of the points lead, with two 40-lap, 150-point races left to determine the 2012 champion.
In the first feature race of the weekend Friday, Nov. 2, Sheppard finished 12th and Hearn took 3rd, putting “the Jet” within 60 points of the lead and further intensifying the championship battle going into Saturday’s finale. Britten took the initial lead in Saturday’s 40-lapper, but Hearn was right behind him, and a win for Hearn would mean that Sheppard a 14th or better finish to clinch the title. As a result, Sheppard found himself taking fewer risks.
“When you’re down here just trying to win the race, you take more chances and you try to run a little harder,” Sheppard said. “I wanted to win the race, I wanted to run up front, but on the other hand, you’ve got to finish the thing. That’s the most important thing. (more…)
FL United Promoters Series Season Finale
The Florida United Promoters Series will hold the season finale Regal Kia-Chevy 150 on Sat. December 8th, 2012 at Auburndale Speedway, this event was originally schedule for 200 laps at Desoto Speedway. Although we were planning to finish at Desoto we just couldn’t make it work, and we were able to move it to the “Dale”, added Williams.
With only twenty points separating Steve Dorer and Jesse Dutilly for the championship, this race will determine who will win the 2012 FUPS Championship and claim the $5,000.00 from the points fund. Along with Dutilly and Dorer will be Jonathan Guy on his home track who sits in 3rd place in the points race. Joining the top three will be series regulars, Daniel Webster, Anthony Campi, Anthony Sergi, Kevin Macy, Joe Winchell, David Green, David King, Eddie King, and many others.

Lanigan Collects $100,000 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Championship Check For Second Time At Sunday Night’s Awards Banquet
CONCORD, NC – Nov. 4, 2012 – Darrell Lanigan’s dream season on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series officially came to a close on Sunday night.
The 42-year-old star from Union, Ky., was crowned the 2012 champion of the renowned national tour – and collected a $100,000 points-fund check – during Sunday’s annual WoO LMS ‘Night of Champions’ Awards Banquet at the Great Wolf Lodge.
Lanigan rewrote the circuit’s record book en route to becoming the second two-time WoO LMS titlist since 2004. He established new standards for wins in a single season (15), consecutive victories (six) and alltime triumphs (41), leaving the typically reserved driver even more at a loss for words.
“Wow…what a year!” Lanigan told a filled ballroom when he was called to the stage to accept his championship honors. “Unbelievable, just unbelievable. That’s all I can say.”
Lanigan seized the points lead with a victory in the 2012 season opener on Feb. 11 at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., and never relinquished it, becoming the first driver to remain atop the standings from start-to-finish. His final championship margin of 228 points over 2011 titlist Rick Eckert of York, Pa., was the largest in series history. (more…)
Schatz Crowned at the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Banquet on Sunday
His fifth championship nets a prize of $150,000 as top four earn more than $325,000
CONCORD, N.C. – Nov. 4, 2012 – Donny Schatz was crowned the 2012 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion at the season-ending banquet Sunday evening at the Great Wolf Lodge Convention Center.
He received a check for the $150,000-to-win championship – his fifth since 2006 – at the event, which honored the 11 full-time Outlaws as well as the marketing partners for the World of Outlaws.
“The fact that we ran second a lot and third a lot, and that’s what wins championships – is what you do on the nights when you can’t win,” Schatz said. “This ranks up there as one of the hardest fought ones. We had some of the lowest lows and the highest highs.”
Craig Dollansky finished second in the standings, which was his best result since 2006. Sammy Swindell, who led the series with 13 feature victories, placed third and Joey Saldana ended fourth – his eighth top-five finish since 2002. Steve Kinser, who is a 20-time champion and the winningest driver in the series, garnered his unprecedented 31st top-five result. (more…)
Pancoast Returns to Take the Win and Continue his Winning Streak
The night started out with the Rookie Truck feature that saw Chad Chastain from Alva dominate the race from start to finish. Young Chastain is called “Melon Jr” because of the Melon One sponsor he sports on the thirty six truck that mirrors the truck his older brother Ross drives in the Camping World Truck Series. The real battle was going on for second place as James Dellea III of Port Charlotte stayed out in front of Corey Bigley to finish 2nd in the James Dellea Tire and Auto Repair sponsored Truck. Coery Bigley would bring the Whitney Poole Motorsports truck home in third.
T.Q. Midgets were up next for their twenty five lap feature that saw Chris Gimmler jump out to the lead while battling with Port Charlotte’s David Patterson who was running in second. Gimmler held on and led all the laps for the win while Rob Kohler was second and Jamie Barnum third and Patterson fourth.
Legends cars were lined up and ready to go with the 48 of Carl Haag on the pole and Seth Adams outside, while fast qualifier Chase Fitzgerald started in the rear. Adams of Mulberry jumped out to take the lead while Beca Monopoli of Lakeland was a close second. With no cautions in this 40 lap feature, it was Monopoli chasing Adams while Devon McCleod was closing in fast. Five laps to go, Monopoli saw a chance to squeeze on the inside of Adams between turns three and four and it was Monopoli that made the pass clean to take over the lead. When the checkers flew it was Becca Monopoli that was the winner, Seth Adams came in second and Devin McCleod was third while fast qualifier Chase Fitzgerald was fourth. (more…)
