Jared Gay Picks Up First Ever Feature Win, Father Tim Gay also Victorious at Clay by the Bay

By:  Jason Loughren

10/16/2010

It was another great Florida evening for racing at the Clay By the Bay as around 100 cars signed in for five classes of racing.  A father and son combination visited victory lane as Jared and Tim Gay each won their feature events.

The Precision Kia of Wesley Chapel Street Stocks Jared Gay led flag to flag to take his first ever feature win at East Bay.  Gay started on the front row and endured two pressure filled restarts.  (more…)

An Exciting First Half

by Jimmy Rouse- Ocala Speedway Media

The first half of the Fall Nationals was a great success and a huge crowd witnessed it. The Mini Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, and Sunoco United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series were all ready to roar and roar they did. Everyone that saw this event saw everything there is to see in racing.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks are known for tight racing and there was no disappointment in that aspect. Jason Gamble started outside pole and had the best shot he’s had for a win all season. It was not to be, however, and on the lap 1 restart he lost a wheel, ending his night. On lap 8, Scott Mooers lost his wheel and Eddie Kilbury, with nowhere to go, t-boned Mooers passenger side door. Mike Stalnaker kept working his way up and after leading a lap, took it for a loop in turn 2. Stalnaker wouldn’t give up, though, and on the final lap he was where he needed to be. In turn 3, Robert Ray pushed the dominating James Erickson up the track, leaving the bottom open for Stalnaker. Mike Stalnaker won by about half a car while Ray would settle for 2nd and James Erickson would finish 3rd. Gordon Cade and Vaughn Woodall had a great battle and at the end, Cade was 4th, and Woodall 5th.

The Fall Nationals at Ocala Speedway was a great 50 lap event. Mark Whitener had won the Zigler Race Engineering Fast Qualifier Award earlier in the night and was looking to win the race as well. The Sunoco United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series could very well end their season at the 2nd half of the Fall Nationals, hosted by Volusia Speedway Park, with a very close points battle between Whitener, Ivedent Lloyd, Darrell Padgett, and Keith Nosbisch. However the race would not belong to any of those men and on lap 2, Whitener would have a tire go down on him. On the restart, Christian Augspuirger spun and Jordy Nipper, Bubba ‘The Love Sponge’ Clem, and Mark Whitener all got collected. On lap 8 Darrell Padgett slowed and it was due to his engine which was starting to miss. Tyler Ivey had an incredible night in which he dominated and had plenty of great restarts. Shan Smith ran 2nd, followed by “Catfish” Keith Nosbisch in 3rd which really helps his championship hopes, John Kellum 4th, and Dillon Wood would take home 5th.

Ocala Speedway’s Mini Stocks ran the final event of the night and it might have been the most exciting race for them all season. On lap 3, Dan Kerr, Johnny Zackery, and “Hot Shot” Keith Briggs had a mishap in turn 2 which forced “Hot Shot” to drive through the middle of the infield while Kerr and Zackery took a less eventful path. 2 laps later, Dan Kerr and Jimbo Bird made contact and they spun up near the front stretch wall. On the restart, “Hot Shot” maneuvered his way around points leader Nick Kerr and never looked back. “Hot Shot” would win his 6th-in-a-row at Ocala, followed across the line by Nick Kerr, Johnny Zackery, Buddy Pope, and Dan Kerr.

Ocala Speedway will run the Colortyme Open Wheel Modifieds along with a $1000 to win Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks race, the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks, and the Gladiators. Plus, the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association will be here as well. For more information you can call the Speedway or visit www.ocalaspeedway.com.
