Alli Owens Ready for Rattlesnake 150

After scoring her best finish of the 2010 season last week at Salem Speedway, Alli Owens is primed for another strong performance in this week’s Rattlesnake 150.

Owens was 15th fastest in the final practice session of the afternoon. Her fastest lap during the two-hour session was 29.930 seconds (180.421 mph) around the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway. Owens is very happy with her ElectrifyingCareers.com Chevy’s performance and anxiously awaiting race day, despite not being at the top of the practice charts.

“Our car was awesome in race trim,” said Owens.  “Jeff (McClure) made really good adjustments. I was a little bit snug on exit when we started practice, but it got better and better each time my crew worked on the car. At the end of the session, I was riding on the white line through the corners. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.

“We didn’t have a good mock run, and that kept us from being at the top of the charts.  That’s OK, though. The most important thing is that we’ve got a car capable of running up front. On long runs, we’re definitely a top-10 car.  All of our Venturini cars were super-strong today.  I think you’ll see us all working together tomorrow and leading the charge to the checkers.”
Qualifying was cancelled due to rain showers.  The starting lineup was set according to last season’s final owner point standings, which puts Owens 25th on the grid for tomorrow’s race.

The Rattlesnake 150 starts at 7:30 EST on Friday. Coverage can be seen on SPEED.

The only caution to wave came out on lap 19 for Ray Gonzalez III, when he spun his car around in turn 4. On the restart Bo Bass was all over the back of Andy Pryor’s car. As the fianl 6 laps went on Pryor was able to make some breathing roon between him and Bass. Andy Pryor went on to clain the victory with Bo Bass finishing in second and Rick Lundee was third.

The Pro4’s were next out for there special 35 lap race with Corey Bigley sitting on the pole. On the start Kyle Rice hit the backstretch wall, resulting in a complete restart. On the restart Phillip Ellis spun his car around in turn two. Before the second restart the driver’s were warned that if they could not get it together that they would sent to the pits until the end of the night, luckily that did not happen.

On the second restart Corey Bigley missed a shift and Stuart Vandevender took full advantage and took the lead. John Pummell Jr., brought out the caution on lap 3 afer spinning in turn 3.Vandevender, still held the lead on the restart with Ryan Collver running him down. Lap 5 saw another caution after John Pummell Jr. spun in turn 4.

On the restart Collver had a good run and took over the lead from Vandevender, however the following lap Stuart Vandevender took back the lead with the final caution coming out again for John Pummel Jr. Since it was Pummel’s third caution he was sent to the pits for the rest of the evening.

The remainder of th race ran cautionless with Stuart Vandevender battling it out for the top spot for the remainder of the race. With 5 laps remaining Dylan Bigley, had caught up to second and first place making it the 3 car battle until the end. On the last lap lap traffic got into the way of the leaders.

Donna Biggar’s motor expired and slicked up the track in turn four and half of the frontstretch, she pulled her car into the infield before she could lay down any more oil. Jim Meiser still held the lead when the race resumed with Bobby Fischer and Robert Crisp all over the back of Meiser’s car. Meiser was able to hold off Crisp until lap sixteen, when Robert Crisp was able to take over the lead. Robert Crisp never looked back and took home the win with Danny Daniels Jr and JIm Meiser completing the top three spots.

LATE MODEL DRIVERS GO FOR THREE GRAND SATURDAY – FANS WELCOME TO COME TO FRIDAY PRACTICE AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Race fans will enjoy the biggest show of the year so far this Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway as the Late Models take center stage for the AMF Chassis 100 which will pay the winner a cool $3,000.

Jeff Scofield won the first Late Model race held at the track a few weeks ago which was sanctioned by the new Florida All Stars Tour. Scofield’s dominance of the event was overshadowed by the wild action between a pair of tough competitors, Wayne Anderson and Kevin “The Bulldozer” Ingram which created considerable controversy, even well after the race was in the record books. EDDIE HARTIN FINDS VICTORY LANE AGAIN AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Another huge crowd of fans enjoyed yet another action-packed night at Auburndale Speedway with the School Bus Figure 8 event the icing on the racing cake.

Veteran driver Eddie Hartin picked up a ride in the Street Stock class a few weeks ago and he finally had his new mount working to perfection Saturday night as he took a very popular win.

Hartin and Brandon Duscherer topped the heats and made up the front row for the 20 lap feature with Duscherer grabbing the early lead. Duscherer was battling a loose racer and Hartin wasted little time asserting himself out front by lap four. From there it was simply a battle for second place as Hartin streaked away to the victory. Duscherer held off Jeff Waterman for second but it was all for naught as Duscherer’s car came up light on the scales and he was disqualified.

Waterman thus moved up to second in the finishing order trailed by Kyle Hall, Dave Colpritt and Kyle Peters, who was making his first start of the year.

Duscherer gained a bit of revenge by dominating the V-8 Bomber feature race as well as making it through the tech shed unscathed.

After winning the heat, Duscherer was pretty much in control of the feature from green to checker despite having to wait out a lengthy red flag period late in the going after Larry Chumney blew the engine in his car dumping fluid all over the track.

James Wright II took runner-up honors ahead of Paul Bookmiller and Josh Borem. So many cars had dropped out before his engine blew that Chumney still finished fifth.

The best race of the night had to be the Mini Stock feature. Heat winner Chris Narramore, Sr. took the early lead but ran side by side for many laps with Fred Harrison, Jr. with Harrison actually leading on a couple of occasions by a mere bumper.

Narramore managed to get the top spot but had to hold off both Harrison and Chris Spring in a crowd-pleasing finish that had the fans applauding vigorously after the checker fell.

It was Narramore’s second win of the year while point leader Harrison settled for second in front of Spring. Young Jason Swilley had his best finish since moving into the class from the Kids Club in fourth while James Pate had a great run for fifth.

Burt Morse ran off and hid from the rest of the field in the Modified Mini Stock 25 lap run. The race ran from green to checker without a caution as Morse was in a different zip code by the finish.

Jason Rendell was a distant second just ahead of Scotty Sharpe while Mike Sweet and Chad Rose claimed fourth and fifth.

Legend Car point leader Jake Perkins had a tough weekend. After destroying his car in a bad crash Friday night in Orlando, Perkins borrowed a car from fellow racer Dakota Baggett for the Saturday races here.

Perkins seemed to be in pretty good shape as he won his heat race and had a front row start for the 25 lap feature outside first heat winner Gerald White, Jr. but after a false start, something broke on Perkins’ car and he was towed to the pits as his “weekend to forget” ended with a last place finish.

For White, it was finally time for the Lakeland Youngster to shine as he led all the way to take the win, his first of the year. Justin Brown gave chase but White pulled away late in the going with Brown taking second trailed by Mason Ketterman, Dave Gleason and Zach Napoleon.

Only two Bandoleros were still around after hot laps with Ryan Shattuck getting his second win of the year with Cameron White second.

The final event of the night was the School Bus Figure 8 race which saw several different leaders before Danny Taylor pulled away for the win.

Although there were a few close call in the “X,” the worst incident of the event came when a fuel line broke on Robert Aaron’s bus with the engine compartment erupting in flames. Several fire exinguishers were needed before the fire was finally put out.

Gary Swing trailed Taylor to the checker with Mark Carraro taking third spot.

Next week the Late Models return to Auburndale Speedway for a 100 lap event paying $3,000 to win. Also racing will be the Mini Cups, Kids Club, Legends, Bandoleros, Mini Stocks, Scramblers, V-8 Bombers, and Sportsman. Qualifying is at 5:30PM and racing starts at 7 PM. For more information call 863-551-1131 or log on to www.auburndaleracing.com.

Fast Lane 5 Racing This Saturday At Volusia Speedway Park

by VSP Media

BARBERVILLE, FL-  Volusia Speedway Park returns with another exciting Saturday night of racing action on April 17th as Fastlane 5 Racing invades the south’s fastest half mile.  The Daytona Dodge-Chrysler Late models will be leading the charge, along with the return of the Taylor Racing Products sportsman division after a week off.  More action from the Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks will be on tap, plus the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks and the 4 Cylinder Challengers round out the program.

Ivedent Lloyd and Darrell Padgett dominated the Daytona Dodge-Chrysler Late Model race last Saturday, but David Clegg still holds the points lead going into this weeks race. Padgett is in second place after last week’s action, followed by Joe Kump who is 48 points in back of the leader.  Both Lloyd and Padgett have served notice that they plan on returning to Volusia Speedway Park this weekend, so the entire field will be looking to wick it up in order to keep them in check.

Shaun Daugharty grabbed a win in the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division two weeks ago, putting him within a mere five points of the current leader, Aaron Barsness, and Drew Smith’s second place finish on the same night leaves him just 40 points back in third place.  Steve Shead finished third two weeks ago, which puts him within three points of Smith.  There is nothing like a tight points race to raise the excitement level, and the racers are primed and ready to get back onto the track and shake things up a little.

Phillip Brown sits firmly atop the points standings in the Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks, and last Saturday’s victory “gift” thanks to some disqualifications for post race extracurricular activities, only cemented his position more firmly.  Tim Hughes finished second to Brown last weekend and is also in second place in the points, 23 in back of the leader.  Trevor Gamble sits 32 points short of the leader in third place after last week’s DQ, and likely will be focused on reclaiming what was lost.

The Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks had a rough go of it last Saturday, as frequent appearances from the yellow flag caused time to expire before 20 laps could be run.  The win went to David Whitt on Saturday night, while points leader Scott Mooers wound up in the fourth spot.  Jumpin’ Jim Shaw had an impressive run last week as he finished in third place and is steadily creeping up the season points standings as well.  Shaw may be the man to watch as the season progresses.

And someone other than Shawn Kosier won the 4 Cylinder Challenger race last week at VSP, as Steven Cox stepped up his game and made Kosier use some tear offs for a change.  Kosier remains the points leader as RJ Glaser is now 57 points short of the top spot.  But the mover and shaker in the Challenger Division is Casey Feaster, who fought 12 positions forward two weeks ago to finish in the third spot, and who gained a whopping 14 positions this past Saturday to finish in the fifth spot.  Feaster currently sits in the third spot in the points standings, 73 points behind Shawn Kosier.

Volusia Speedway Park will open the pit gate at 4PM on Saturday, and fans can enter the grandstand area after 5:30PM.  Racing will get underway at 7:30PM.  For more information or to see the complete schedule of events at VSP, be sure to visit our official website at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net.  Fans are also reminded to save by purchasing advance tickets to VSP’s Rasslin’ & Racin’ night, which is scheduled for April 24th.
