A Full Moon And A Completed Season

by Jimmy Rouse- Ocala Speedway Media

It was the final night of action in 2010 at Ocala Speedway and the races didn’t disappoint. The Late Models headlined the night while the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks and Gladiators battled for points. The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks had their night where no winners from 2010 were allowed to run and the fans saw some great racing all around.

Up first were the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks and everyone in the field wanted to prove that they could win. On lap 2, Eddie Lake took his 96 for a spin while Gordon Cade and Michael Carr made contact that neither needed. When the race got back under way, Lake started charging to the front. (more…)

Woodhouse, Watson East Bay First Timers

By Larry Jewett

Buck Woodhouse

It was a case of persistence as two drivers were rewarded with cherished first victories in the five-division action at East Bay Raceway Park.

The program opened with Precision Kia Street Stocks and Buck Woodhouse jumped from the front row to the early race lead. The event saw its first caution when point leader Donnie reed tagged the wall and went to the pits with a flat tire. Roy Woodhouse lost a wheel on the next restart, yielding a top five spot. Buck Woodhouse kept the lead, ahead of a hard charging Eric Moon through a series of cautions. A flat tire eliminated challenger Thomas Pratt on lap nine, which proved to be the last restart. Buck Woodhouse was able to go wire-to-wire to grab the victory. Woodhouse has used steady finishes to hold a top three position in points, now adding the cherished victory. Moon claimed second, ahead of Reed, who mounted a strong charge to third. Clarence Pratt and James Hook rounded out the top five. Buck Woodhouse and Moon claimed preliminaries. (more…)

Doug Moff Gets PGS Modifieds

PGS Media

Punta Gorda Speedway saw Fourteen modifieds rolled out for qualifying on a beautiful full moon Saturday night and the # 46 of Doug Moff set fast time on a tight field with 12 cars within a half second.  After the redraw it put the #12 of Eric Rudd on the pole and Moff starting outside pole.  From the drop of the green flag Moff and Rudd had quite a battle running side by side for many laps.

There was some great racing just behind the leaders between Kyle Bookmiller, Jimmy Wilkins and Steve Arnold.  After a caution on lap 18 would send Arnold to the rear the battle continued up front between Moff and Rudd, Sean McLaughlin in the 99 machine making a charge on the outside mixing it up with Bookmiller and Wilkins. Championships on the Line at Auburndale Speedway

By Dave Westerman

Auburndale Speedway closes out the 2010 regular racing season Saturday night with a six division program featuring extra-distance, extra-cash races for the Legend Cars and the Street Stocks. They will be joined by the Mini Stocks, Scramblers, and Bandoleros along with a ladies Powder Puff race.

Although the point season ended last week for the Legend Cars, they will get a jump on the upcoming Winternationals with a special 50 lap feature paying $500 to win. 2010 champion Jake Perkins will be in the field along with a host of others going for the extra cash and some bragging rights heading into the off season.

The only track championship as yet undecided is for the Street Stocks, however all point leader Matt McCrary has to do is start the special 40 lap feature and the title is his to claim. McCrary’s only challenger is Jeff Waterman who sits 56 points behind him after two straight DNF’s. Unless McCrary takes a victory this week, he would pull off the rare feat of winning a championship without winning a feature race. McCrary has had closet full of second-fifth place finishes this year and his consistency has kept him on top.

Scrambler points will be awarded this week as well, and although Kimberly Gullett has already laid claim to the championship, second place is nowhere near decided with Brian Tyre leading Richard Brown by just eight points.
Congratulations to Teddy Lively and Cameron White who wrapped up the 2010 Bandolero track championships last week in the Outlaw and Bandit classes respectively.

Pit gates open at 2PM Saturday and grandstand gates open at 5PM with racing beginning with time trials for the Legend Cars and Street Stocks at 7PM. Adult admission is just $12 and seniors are $10. Kids aged 5-12 are $5 and all children aged 4 and under are free. Family four-packs (two adults and two kids aged 5-12) are $25. For more information log on to www.auburndaleracing.com powered by Palm Tree Computers.

NOTES:

“Toys for Tots” will be collecting new, unwrapped toys at Auburndale Speedway this week. Please try and help as the program is overwhelmed with requests for toys this year. Just bring them and drop them in the box at the entrance way.

Once again another pair of youngsters will carry away bicycles this week courtesy of “Lindsey’s Little Racers.” Each child aged ten and under will get an extra “ticket” which will be good for the drawing for the bikes and a pair of Prize Packs which will include autographed photos of Sprint Cup driver Joe Nemechek. Thirty kids will get a free ice cream treat courtesy of Legend Car champ Jake Perkins and race fan Martin Stubbs.

Julius and Lindsey Bruce shocked everyone by announcing last week that they are retiring “Lindsey’s Little Racers” due to Julius’ health issues. The program, which has awarded over 100 bicycles to kids at the track since its inception in 2005 will not be going away, just changed a bit. Starting in
2011, the “Auburndale Little Racers” will continue the tradition set down by the Bruce family. Roger Turcott will be heading up the program and is looking for sponsors to help purchase bikes and other prizes for the kids as well as items for the weekly raffle which has become a big hit with the fans this year. Roger can be reached at (863)662-5146.

A new face in the Legend Car pit area last week was Torstein Larsen who hails from Narvik, Norway. Larsen, who winters in Vero Beach four months out of the year had his new car out last week and hopes to race here as often as possible. Also making the trip down from Moncton, NB in Canada was Legend Car veteran Gary Bursey who is getting some track time before the Winternationals in February.

The 2011 Schedule for Auburndale Speedway is now up at www.auburndaleracing.com. The schedule is subject to change but is pretty well set for the upcoming year. The Trucks will gain extra dates in 2011 and the popular Outlaw Modifieds will see action 14 times in 2011. Nine Late Model races are scheduled including a pair of Florida United Promoters Series dates in March and May. Sprint cars are also returning with one date already booked and more a possibility.

Look for Brent Tyler, who finished third in Truck points this year, to move up to a Late Model during 2011 along with continuing to run a few shows in his Cleanse-All sponsored Truck.

Pull The Belts Tight One Last Time

by Jimmy Rouse- Ocala Speedway Media

This will be the final night of action at Ocala Speedway in 2010 and it’s going to be great. The Late Models return as well as the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks. The Gladiators battle one last time and the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks have a night for non-winners from 2010

The Late Models have given us some great racing this year and nothing less is expected. Mark Whitener has put himself above the rest and currently leads defending champion J.O. Nobles by 57 points. Nobles will put up the best fight he can, but Ivedent Lloyd, the winner last time out, is only 17 points behind Nobles. Those 2 champions, however, may be settling for 2nd and 3rd. Phillip Cobb, however, has only a 7 point deficit to Lloyd and would love to take a top 3 in points. Christian Augspuirger, the teen-age rookie, is just 10 behind Cobb and wouldn’t mind beating racers of many years more than him. A great night is in store for the Late Models.

In the 2010 Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks season, many drivers have put themselves above the others, but Dean Jarvis is the one with the lead right now. Jarvis holds 22 points over Heath Walker and Walker looked really competitive last time out. Danny Miller, Jr. has had many wins in 2010, but he is 45 points behind Jarvis. Miller will do all he can to make those 45 points up. William Edwards is 96 points behind Miller and will do his best to hold Jody Wells off for 4th. Wells needs only 28 points to match Edwards and Wells will try to put the #11 in victory circle one last time.

Matt Shea has out-lasted the other Gladiators and holds a mere 30 points over Devin Walker. While those 2 battle for 1st, Steve Johnson will do all he can to keep his 47 point advantage over Casey Feaster, as neither are in a mathematical position to win the title. Kyle Morse has clinched 5th in points, but would love to win after his amazing encounter with the tractor tire last week.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks have no winners from this season on the track this week. Chris Shea, the 3rd place points finisher, will be top dog out there and would love to hold his first 1st place trophy. Brian Shea will do his best to beat his brother and the other competitors and is also looking for his first 1st place trophy. Gordon Cade is 6th overall and 3rd of the non-winners. Gordon would love to win his first dirt race ever and this week could be his week. Jonathan Gillette has had a great season and wants to put his #64 in victory lane. The biggest surprise, however, is… Jason Gamble. Gamble has driven 3 cars this season, but has yet to win a race in 2010. Gamble certainly doesn’t want to go winless in 2010, and he has 1 last chance.

Ocala Speedway runs it’s final event this week and ticket prices are as usual. Grandstands open at 5PM with racing at 8. For more information, you may call the Speedway or visit www.ocalaspeedway.com.

Josh Williams wins Al Neumann Memorial

KARNAC Media

Al Neumann's #4 driven by Todd Blevins

A solid field of 20 Pro Trucks took the green flag at Punta Gorda Speedway Saturday night in a memorial race for ‘Big’ Al Neumann.  Al was a fixture in Florida truck racing for many years in the familiar #4 .   Todd Blevins of St Petersburg drove the #4 in the race won by Josh Williams of Port Charlotte.  Steven Darvalics set fast time in qualifying for the truck race.

Al Neumann was one of the original Florida truck racers, moving from DeSoto Late Models to run with Bobby Diehl’s Fastruck Series.  Al had a second place at Charlotte County in 2007 and then won the feature in October 2007 at DeSoto Speedway.

Neumann appeared many times on KARNAC’s Racin Talk Radio and Real Racing USA shows. He did his last interview on Real Racin USA on October, 8, 2007 on the heels of his DeSoto win.   That interview is available at this link.

Randy Kile was back in the winners circle in the Road Warrior divisions, while Tim Simmons took the Champ Kart feature.

John Bailey out ran Dwarf Car newcomer Rob Kohler to take the feature.

Top Gun Sprints Highlight Ocala Excitement

by Jimmy Rouse – Ocala Speedway Media

A crazy night at Ocala Speedway had flipped cars, championship changes, and great battles all night long. The Top Gun Sprint Cars rolled into Ocala for the final time in 2010, the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks and Mini Stocks ran their final points events, the Gladiators battled, and the ladies competed in the Powder Puff race.

The Mini Stocks ran the first feature of the night and had the closest points battle of the 6 divisions at Ocala. Nick Kerr held 9 points over his father, Dan Kerr, going into the final night. At the beginning of the night, Buddy Pope jumped out to a lead and held it until half-way. Nick Kerr took the lead at this point and went on to win another feature en route to a Mini Stocks championship. Buddy Pope put a great effort in for 2nd while Dan Kerr took a hard fought 3rd. Sean Babcock finished 4th and Paul Combast took 5th right at the end. In victory lane, Dan waited for Nick to finish his burn-out and take championship pictures. (more…)
