For the Second Time, Volusia Speedway Park is Rained Out February 5th

VSP MEDIA

Barberville, FL (February 5, 2010)  For the second time since the 39th Annual DIRTcar Nationals started on February 2, Mother Nature has spoiled all fun and cancelled racing.

“We did our very best not to cancel tonight’s show,” said General Manager Tonya Moschell.  “We had the radar on and kept watching but it just never got good enough to race.  The rain looked to be letting up but there was another front behind it and racing tonight was just out of the question.”

“We knew East Bay had cancelled and then heard that New Smyrna Speedway had canceled and if we could have raced, we would have been the only track open tonight.  But you win some, you lose some, and some get rained out.”

Racing will return Saturday night, February 6th, with the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars and the DIRTcar UMP Open Wheel Modifieds.  General admission is $39.00 with racing action starting at 7:30 pm.  Qualifying begins at 6 pm.  Front gates open at 5 pm with the pit gate opening at noon.

With each general admission ticket you purchase, fans get a FREE FAN PIT PASS which allows you to get up close to the drivers and their cars in turns 1 and 2.  Most of the World of Outlaw Sprint cars are in turns 1 and 2 and some DIRTcar Modifieds.  Come and meet some of racing GREATEST at Volusia Speedway Park.
Camping is allowed at Volusia Speedway Park with Track Side Preferred Motor Home Parking at $300 per week and campground parking at $25.00 per night. And if you can’t make it to Volusia, you can watch the racing live each night at DIRTVISION. com.
Volusia Speedway Park is located 15 miles west of Ormond Beach, FL on State Road 40. Additional information and updates will be available on the website – www.volusiaspeedwaypark.com, or call 386-985-4402.

Saldana, McWilliams earn victories in star-studded DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia

Barberville, FL — Feb. 4, 2010 — The dirt was calling Thursday night and the big names answered. Joey Saldana drove his Kasey Kahne Racing Sprint Car to victory lane on the second night of the 39th Annual DIRTcar Nationals By University of Northwestern Ohio at Volusia Speedway Park. It was the second year in a row that Kasey Kahne was able to celebrate a win with his team just down the road from Daytona Beach.

David McWilliams earned his first DIRTcar Nationals win but had his hands full all night in his DIRTcar UMP Modified as Clint Bowyer, Ken Schrader and David Reutimann gave chase along with Richard Childress’ grandkids Austin and Ty Dillon. (more…)

Saldana Sizzles at Volusia Speedway Park

Camargo, IL (2-4-10) – By Kelly Brown Public Relations Director –Tonight Saldana won his first race of the season in a convincing fashion after running second on the previous night at Volusia.

Starting on the front row of tonight’s feature event was Craig Dollansky and Greg Hodnett. When the green banner waved over the A-main, Hodnett quickly took the lead. Drag racing down the back stretch on the first lap Saldana was able to move up to second, after beginning his night in the fifth position, while Dollansky settled into third. It only took until the second revolution of the track for Saldana to take the lead in Turn 4. Hodnett would fight back in the low line, while Saldana stayed high. For about three laps the two traded the lead in about every corner, but Saldana was able to establish himself in the lead. (more…)

Big Crowd, Fast Track Leads to Thrilling DIRTcar Winternationals Opening

A new track surface that was smooth and fast allowed O’Reilly Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series and DIRTcar Racing UMP Modified drivers to showcase all of their talents on Wednesday night’s opener to the 39th Annual Florida DIRTcar Nationals By University of Northwestern Ohio at Volusia Speedway Park.

Craig Dollansky powered his way to a victory in the Sprint Car portion of the night, while Dave Hess Jr. broke the stranglehold on Volusia that UMP Modified racers Jared Landers and the Dillon brothers (Austin and Ty) had on the half-mile oval just west of Ormond Beach on S.R. 40. (more…)

Dollansky Victorious at Volusia

Camargo, IL (2-3-10) – By Kelly Brown –Public Relations Director – Entering tonight’s event there were a lot of unknowns for Craig Dollansky. He was beginning the 2010 season with a new team, car, and even the Goodyear Tires on his car were new to him. Some drivers may be daunted by a scenario like this, but Dollansky adapted very quickly as he picked up the victory in O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions action at Volusia Speedway Park.

After setting quick time, Dollansky would begin the night on the pole position with Jason Sides to his right. On the drop of the Green Flag Dollansky would take the lead on Lap 1 coming out of the second turn. Behind him Joey Saldana was on the move as he picked up four positions, moving from his eighth place starting position to fourth in just one circuit of the track. When the dust settled after the first lap the top-five were Dollansky, Sides, Lucas Wolfe, Saldana and Donny Schatz. (more…)

Bronson, Clegg, Belkey, and Jarvis Winners at Volusia Speedway Park “January Jump-Start”

VSP MEDIA

Barberville, FL (January 24, 2010)  To say the “January Jump-Start” at Volusia Speedway Park was a success would be actually an understatement.  The “January Jump-Start” was AWESOME from Friday night’s open practice to Sunday afternoon’s features.  Even the few dark clouds overhead could not, did not, spoil such an AWESOME weekend.

A sudden but brief rain shower interrupted the program but the track equipment was out as soon as the rain was over and it only took a short period of time to get the track back into running shape.   Plus it gave the fans some time to eat since once racing started, no one wanted to leave their seat. Glaser tops 4 Cylinder Challengers at Volusia Speedway Park

VSP MEDIA

Barberville, FL (January 23, 2010)  It was packed pits for Volusia Speedway Park for the January Jump-Start.  Very little room was left for racecars to park in the pit area by the time hot laps came around.  All but the Mini Stock divison had full fields of cars which made the fans happy and a great show.

Running heats and features were the Mini Stocks and 4 Cylinder Challengers.  Mini Stocks saw Stanton Mills top the four car field for the heat race as Tony Laporta topped heat one for the 4 Cylinder Challengers and Davey Wolf topped heat number two.

Only five Mini Stocks were in the field for the feature but it ended up being a four car field as the #09 of Tommy Saunders died coming into turn 2 on the warm-up lap.  Blake Spencer had the pole for the 12 lap feature and as they say, “never looked back”.  Spencer lead from green to checkered followed by Jason Intoppo, Dan Kerr, and Stanton Mills.
Gilbert Epsey had the pole for the 15 lap 4 Cylinder Challenger feature and lead the first couple of laps until Vinnie Richards took over.  Richards, who had the only 4 cylinder truck in the field, looked to have a clear path to the checkered but obviously it was not his night as Davey Wolf took the point away from Richards.
However on lap 12, the only red flag of the night came out for Richards who had a fire in the engine compartment.  By the time Richards had stopped his ride, the fire was out but the safety crew got to him quickly to make sure he was not hurt or burned and luckily he was not.

On the restart, R.J. Glaser got the drop on the field.  Although he had a very hard charging and determined Tony Laporta right on his rear bumper, Glaser was able to hold off Laporta and take his first win of 2010 and the $500 purse home.
Following Glaser to the checkered was Tony Laporta, Johnathan Green, Davey Wolf, and Shawn Kosier.
The DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Modifieds and DIRTcar Street Stocks saw plenty of action as they ran heat races for tomorrow’s features.  The top five in each heat was guaranteed a spot in the feature with the rest of the field running a consi race on Sunday for the feature.

Not making the modified field and will run the consi race for the DIRTcar Modifieds was Dan Arnold, Mike Spatola, P.J. Wiggins, Ronnie Chance, David Ponton, and Darron Smith.  Smith was the winner of heat 3 but was light at the scales and was dq’d.

In the DIRTcar Sportsman, nine cars did not make the field and will run a consi race.  They were Steve Branton, William Northrup, Liza O’Connor, Shane Williams, Karl Haas, Drew Smith, Scott Lagassee, Jr., Richard Wells, and Trevor Gamble.
Running the DIRTcar Street Stock consi are Rick Davis, Jeff Miller, D.J. Nobles, Mick Kulak, David McCormack, Mike Eubanks, Dell Powell, Martin Butcher, and Jody Wells.

The January Jump-Start will continue tomorrow at 2 pm at Volusia Speedway park with heats and feature for the Thunder Stock and consi races and features for the DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Modifieds, and DIRTcar Street Stocks.
General Admission on Sunday, January 24, is $12.00.  Students 11 – 15 is $6.00 with children 10 and under FREE.   Drive-in parking is $10.00.  Pit gate and grandstands open at 12 noon.

Volusia Speedway Park is located 15 miles west of Ormond Beach, FL on State Road 40. Additional information and updates will be available on the website – www.volusiaspeedwaypark.com, or call 386-985-4402.
