Channing Conolly wins Checkered Flag Sprint Feature at CCMP

Punta Gorda, FL…It was another night full of action at the jewel of the South, the Charlotte County Motorsports Park this past Saturday night. Eight divisions took on the 3/8th mile track with the Pro 4 and Road Warriors running special 35 lap features. TQ Midgets were the first feature event of the evening with Geoff Styner leading the field to the start of the 25 lap feature. Styner immediately took his car the the front and led until lap 6.

At that point Ted Durfee took over the top spot with the oldest person in the field Jack Duffy, coming throught the field fast. With 2 laps remaining Duffy was on Durfee’s tire tracks. On the final lap Jack Duffy seen a hole open up and jumped to the inside of Ted Durfee going into turn 3 and passed him at the line. Jack Duffy took the win with Ted Durfee finishing as close second and Geoff Styner was third.

Mike Belusar sat on the pole for the 25 lap feature for the Dwarf cars. Belusar took the lead at the wave of the green flag and held the position for the first 7 laps. Andy Pryor made a run for the lead on lap 6 and successfully made the pass the following lap.

The only caution to wave came out on lap 19 for Ray Gonzalez III, when he spun his car around in turn 4. On the restart Bo Bass was all over the back of Andy Pryor’s car. As the fianl 6 laps went on Pryor was able to make some breathing roon between him and Bass. Andy Pryor went on to clain the victory with Bo Bass finishing in second and Rick Lundee was third.

The Pro4’s were next out for there special 35 lap race with Corey Bigley sitting on the pole. On the start Kyle Rice hit the backstretch wall,resulting in a complete restart. On the restart Phillip Ellis spun his car around in turn two. Before the second restart the driver’s were warned that if they could not get it together that they would sent to the pits until the end of the night, luckily that did not happen.

On the second restart Corey Bigley missed a shift and Stuart Vandevender took full advantage and took the lead. John Pummell Jr., brought out the caution on lap 3 afer spinning in turn 3.Vandevender, still held the lead on the restart with Ryan Collver running him down. Lap 5 saw another caution after John Pummell Jr. spun in turn 4.

 On the restart Collver had a good run and took over the lead from Vandevender, however the following lap Stuart Vandevender took back the lead with the final caution coming out again for John Pummel Jr. Since it was Pummel’s third caution he was sent to the pits for the rest of the evening.

The remainder of th race ran cautionless with Stuart Vandevender battling it out for the top spot for the remainder of the race. With 5 laps remaining Dylan Bigley, had caught up to second and first place making it the 3 car battle until the end. On the last lap lap traffic got into the way of the leaders.

Going into turn 4 Ryan Collver went low and Stuart Vandevnder got cautght behind the lap car of Billy Benoit which aloud Collver to take over the lead. Ryan Collver went on to win the feature with Stuart Vandevender having to settle for second and Dylan Bigley took home the third place throphy.

The Checkered Flag Sprint Series were back for another exciting 30 lap feature with Ric Voisey on the pole. On the start Frankie Hurst grabbed the lead and kept his car out front until lap 2. Rookie Channing Conolly passed Hurst on lap three to gain the lead. The entire feature ran catuin free and the race lasted less then 10 minutes. Even though the race ran caution free there were alot of side by side action from the second position on back. Channing Conolly took the win with Jimmy Alves in second place and Gary Gimmler was third.

The Fastrucks took to the track for their 50 lap feature with Sean Bass leading the field to the start and took the lead. The first caution waved on lap 8 for Cody Allen, whose muffler was dragging. On the restart Bass continued where he left off and gained a healthy lead over the rest of the field. The next caution whould not come out until lap 31 for the spin on the frontstretch by Jerry Maxson.

Whitney Poole started smoking heavily and on lap 36 the caution was brought out to check to see if she was leaking any fluids. Sean Bass captured the victory with Ricky Moxley coming in second with Mike Burns completing the top three positions.

Jim Meiser was the polsitter for the 35 lap, Florida Suncoast Outlaw Street Stock and Outlaw Thunder Trucks. On the start Larry Braswell got into the side of Robert Crisp in turn four, spinning Robert Crisp and came to a stop on the frontstretch all cars beside Robert Benning came out of it unharmed. Robert Benning had hit the wall as he went high to avaoid hitting Crisp’s spinning car.

On the restart Jim Meiser was able to take the lead with the caution coming out again after lap 1 was complete. Donna Biggar’s motor expired and slicked up the track in turn four and half of the frontstretch, she pulled her car into the infield before she could lay down any more oil. Jim Meiser still held the lead when the race resumed with Bobby Fischer and Robert Crisp all over the back of Meiser’s car. Meiser was able to hold off Crisp until lap sixteen, when Robert Crisp was able to take over the lead. Robert Crisp never looked back and took home the win with Danny Daniels Jr and JIm Meiser completing the top three spots.

Junior’s Trim Shop Road Warriors ran a special 35 lap feature with Billy Benoit sitting on the pole.

On the start Hank Ferguson got into Clint Snyder going into turn one, both went up the track and collected James Dellea. On the restart Billy Benoit put his car to the front and held the lead for

6 laps. Logan Leonard who has been dominating in the Road Warrior’s this year, took over the position from Benoit on lap seven. Jason Miller spun his car around in turn 1 on lap nine collecting Jeremy Daring. Leoanrd held the lead on the restart with the next caution coming out just 5 laps later with Dave Licking spinning in turn 2.

 On lap 21, Billy Benoit drove into the side of Blaine Baer, bring out the caution. The final caution came out on lap 31. Hank Ferguson and Dave Licking had got into one another in turn 2 with both spinning. Logan Leonard went on to claim his 4th win in a row for the Juniors Trim Shop Road Warrior’s. Jeff Firestine finsihed in second with Derrick Horton taking third place.

The fianl race of the evening was the 20 lap Fab 4 feature with Mark Milthaler on the pole for his first race. On the start Milthaler jumped to the early lead. The first caution came out for Joe Lemier and Shane Moore Jr after contact with one another in turn one. On the restart Kerrington McFadden had a good run going into turn 1 and took the lead from Milthaler. Lap seven had the next caution when second place car Kim Mabbit spun in turn two.

 On the restart McFadden, missed a shift which aloud Phillip Ellis to take the lead. Phillip Ellis went on to take his third win of the year and now has to move up to the Pro 4 division. Kerrington McFadden was second and Nick Callin was third.

Conley tops Checkered Flag Sprints Feature at CCMP

The Checked Flag Sprint Series (CFSS) at Charlotte County Motorsports Park on Saturday April 10.

Ric Voisey in the 69 car had the pole for the start of the SALDANA first heat race.19 of Keith Butler took the lead on lap two and held onto the lead and took the first heat race win. The pole position for the start of the PRO SHOCKS second heat went to Frankie Hurst in the 6. Jimmy Alvis Jr. in 21 took the initial race lead and went on to win the heat. (more…)

Gary Laplant Leaving Charlotte County Motorsports Park

After serving two years as an investor and partner with owner Bobby Diehl at Charlotte County Motorsports Park, Gary Laplant of Tampa is moving on.

Charlotte County has been having financial issues of late that have resulted in rumors of management change and possible ownership change.  At least one of those rumors is now turned to a fact.

The following statement was issued by Gary Laplant this morning:
Over the last week I have given this great thought.

My last weekend at CCMP as operation director will be 04/24/10.

I always told myself when it got to the point that racing was not fun anymore it would be time to give it up. That time has come where its not fun any more at CCMP. (more…)

Jimmy Alvis Sr. wins Checkered Flag Sprint feature at CCMP

Punta Gorda, FL…It was a busy night of racing this past Saturday night at Charlotte County Motorsports Park. The Checkered Flag Sprint Series made there second stop this season at the Jewel of the South along with the Dwarf cars and TQ Midgets, . Also racing were the Juniors Trim Shop Road Warriors, Pro 4, Fab 4 and Mini Stocks.

The Fab 4 were the first feature of the evening with Kim Mabbitt setting the pace for the twenty five lap feature. The entire feature ran caution free but still had alot of racing action through out the race. Phillip Ellis and Paul Richards Jr had caught up to the leader Kim Mabbitt with in five laps remaining. Kim Mabbit was able to hold off Ellis and Richards to take his first win. Paul Richards Jr finished in second with Phillip Ellis coming in third place.

Ted Dufee was the polesitter for the twenty five lap, TQ Miget feature. Durfee immediately took his car to the front. The only caution to come out was on lap fifteen when Jack Duffy, who was running in the second position, spun his car around in turn four. On the restart Ted Durfee continued where he had left off and held a half track lead from the others. Ted Durfee cruised to the victory with Jack Duffy coming back to finish in second and Jay Stutz was third.

The Dwarf cars were next to take on the 3/8th mile oval with Bo Bass on the pole for the twenty five lap race. Bass grabbed the lead at the start of the race with the Hubbard family behind him battling for the second and third positions. The entire race ran caution free until lap twenty four when Larry Hubbard Sr. spun coming out of turn four, setting up a green and checkered finish.

Bo Bass took the win with Larry Hubbard Jr. in second and Larry Hubbard III finishing in third.

The most anticipated race of the evening was up next with Bryan Riddle leading the field to the start of the thirty lap feature. Bryan Riddle held the lead until lap two when Jimmy Alves Jr. made the pass for the lead on lap three. Amanda Ferguson brought out the first caution on lap fourteen when she spun out in turn four. Then four laps later Channing Conley brought out the caution after he spun on the backstretch. On the restart of lap eighteen, Mark Gimmler spun out in turn three.

Channing Conley brought out the caution again on lap twenty one after his spin on the frontstretch.

On the restart Keith Butler had a good run coming out of turn four and was side by side for the lead with Jimmy Alves Jr. for the lead. The two made contact and sent both up the track on the front stretch staking up the rest of the field behind them. Gary Gimmler had no where to go and flew over Butler’s car. All drivers were fine, but all were done for the evening.

The lead was then handed over to Scott Adema who held the lead until lap twenty four. Jimmy Alves Sr. took over the top spot from Scott Adema and never look back and claimed the victory. Scott Adema had to settle for second with Mark Gimmler taking third place.

Johnny Balzarano led the Pro 4 field to the start of there twenty five lap feature. Balzarano took the lead at the start of the race and would lead until lap two. John Pummel Jr. took over the lead from Balzarano on lap three. The first caution came out on lap five after Corey Malinowski spun Chelsea Lajoie in turn two.

Pummel Jr. held the lead on the restart and started putting a distance between himself and the rest of the field when the caution came out again on lap nine. Paul Richards Sr. spun out in turn four and collected Corey Malinowski and Jeremy Perkins. The rest of the race ran caution less with John Pummel Jr claiming his first win of the year. Dylan Bigley and Stuart Vandevender completed the top three positions.

Juniors Trim Shop Road Warriors were next up to bat for there twenty five lap feature. Derrick Horton, who was the polesitter led the first three laps before the first caution came out. Bryan Boxell had spun out coming out of turn four. On the restart Mike Crooks had a good run going into turn one to take over the lead from Derrick Horton.

On lap six Randy Kile got into the back of Blaine Baer going into turn two and sent Baer spinning. Two laps later the caution was out again when Bryan Boxell spun out in turn one. Shane Leonard was sent spinning on the backstretch after Blaine Baer made contact with Leonard on lap ten. On the restart of lap ten the battle for the lead started heating up with Mike Crooks and Logan Leonard. The two raced side by side for two laps before Logan Leonard made the pass for the position on lap twelve.

Logan Leonard never looked back and took the win while the race went of for second, third and forth. Chris Scott, Mike Crooks and Mike Loney raced each other hard for several laps and at the line it was Mike Loney who would finish for second and Chris Scott edged out Crooks for third place.

The final race of the evening was the twenty five lap feature for the Mini Stocks. David Doty sat on the pole and led the first lap before Joe Rice took over the spot. Joe Rice would lead until lap eleven when Shane Yoder took over the position and walked away with the win. Dylan Bigley was second with John Pummel Jr finishing in third place.

Ted Durfee takes FMARA Win at CCMP

The Florida Midget Auto Racing Association (FMARA) started their season on Saturday night March 13th at Charlotte County Motorsports Park in Punta Gorda with Sarasota’s Ted Durfee winning the first feature of the year. Durfee was followed to the finish line by veteran Jack Duffy also of Sarasota. Riverview’s Jay Stutz was third followed by Jamie Barnum of Spring Hill in fourth and Ray Smith of Lehigh Acres in fifth. Durfee also was the winner of the heat race.

Jimmy Alvis tops Checkered Flag Sprints at CCMP

The Checked Flag Sprint Series (CFSS) at Charlotte County Motorsports Park on Saturday March 13.

Ric Voisey in the 69 car had the pole for the start of the BILSTEIN first heat race.19 of Keith Butler took the lead on lap two and held onto the lead and took the first heat race win. The pole position for the start of the LEAF second heat went to Robbie Hackett in the 21A. Bryan Riddle in 11 took the initial race lead for 3 laps when Scotty Adema in the 67 took the lead and went on to win the heat.

SAFETY SOLUTIONS feature race line up, Bryan Riddle in the 11 had the pole and Frankie Hurst in the 6 was on the outside. As the green flag dropped it was Bryan Riddle who made the best start and took the early race lead, on lap 3 Jimmy Alvis Jr. in the 21 took the lead. It looked like it was going to be a caution free race until lap 14 the 20 car of Amanda Ferguson spun. She was refired then on lap 18 the 31 of Channing Conley spun and he was refired.

Lap 19 the 51 of Mark Gimmler made contact with someone; he brought out the caution he was refired. Lap 21 the 31 of Channing Conley spun again on the restart Keith Butler in the 19 car was making a pass on the 21 of Jimmy Alvis Jr. when they got together as they where coming to a stop under flag stand also collecting the 29 of Gary Gimmler the only car to restart was the 21 of Alvis Jr.

The race went back to green with Scotty Adema in the 67 in the lead, but only three laps later the 66 of Jimmy Alvis Sr. took the lead, the last caution flag came out when Mickey Kempgens in the 19T car spun he was refired. On the finish Jimmy Alvis Sr. was the winner with Scotty Adema with 2nd, Mark Gimmler with 3rd, David Slawiak with 4th, and Amanda Ferguson with 5th.

Chris Scott wins Dan Benoit Memorial Road Warrior feature at CCMP

By: Melanie Beckner Punta Gorda, FL… It was a busy night of racing this past Saturday night at the Charlotte County Motorsports Park, with Sportsman, Fastrucks, Florida Suncoast Outlaw Street Stocks and Juniors Trim Shop Road Warriors all running fifty lap features.

The first feature race of the evening was the twenty five lap, Pro 4 race with Dylan Bigley leading the field to the start. Dylan Bigley immediately grabbed the top spot. Mark Davis brought out the first caution when a loose wheel on his car brought out the yellow flag on lap five.

On the restart Bigley, continued where he had left off to only have the caution wave again a lap later when Mark Davis, this time spun his car around in turn two. The field would only get one lap in again when the caution came out for the spinning car of Chelsea Lajoie in turn three. It appeared that something has broke on her car and whipped her around.

Dylan Bigley remained out front with the battle heating up for the second position between Ralph Gross and Stuart Vandevender. The two made contact in turn two on lap twelve that flattened both tires on both drivers cars which caused Vandevender to spin his car around in turn four. Dylan Bigley went on to take the win with Derrick Horton in second and Ryan Collver finishing in third.

2009 Sportsman points Champion, Timmy Lowe started on the pole for the fifty lap Sportsman feature. As the green flag waved Lowe and Aaron Williamson battled for the lead with Williamson clearing Lowe for the position by the completion of lap one. Williamson pulled away from the pack and had a good lead when the first caution came out for debris on lap thirteen.

On the restart Josh calvert, spun his car around on the front stretch. The restart was good with Williamson pulling away from everyone else. While Aaron Williamson walked away from the others, the battle for second through the fourth position was heating up with Timmy Lowe, David Williamson and Brian Richardson.

The three drivers battled hard lap after lap. The next caution came out on lap thirty two with Bill Vandevender spinning out in turn four. Two laps later the final caution came out for Josh Calvert spinning out on the backstretch.

Aaron Williamson cruised to the victory with Brian Richard coming in second and Timmy Lowe rounding out the top three positions.

Logan Leonard was the pole sitter for the Second Annual Dan Benoit Memorial, Juniors Trim Shop Road Warrior feature. Dan Benoit raced in the Road Warrior division for several years, before dieing from cancer two years ago. Two of Dan’s sons, Codey and Billy were in the field for the fifty lap feature.

When the green flag dropped it was Logan Leonard that wheeled his car to the front. The first caution waved on lap twelve when Bryan Boxell looped his car in turn one. Ten laps later James Dellea and Jarrett Cornell where battling for position when the two got together on the front stretch and spun out. Logan Leonard,still was leading when the race resumed with Randy Kile and Chris Scott battling for the second position.

With two laps remaining Logan Leonard, who was still leading lost control of his car coming out of turn four and spun out drawing the final caution. Since the spin was unassisted, Leonard was sent to the rear of the lead lap cars and handed the lead over to Chris Scott.

On the final lap the race for the third position was heating up between Rick Reed, Mike Crooks and Chris Loney. Going into turn two there was contact between Loney and Crooks cars and again going into turn four that sent Loney spinning to the top of turn four. At the line it was Chris Scott who got to celebrate the win with Randy Kile finishing in second and Rick Reed took the third position.

The Fastrucks made there first appearance for the 2010 season with Phil Morrison on the pole for the fifty lap feature. Morrison took the early lead before Steven Darvalics challenged Morrison for the position on lap five. The two raced door handle to door handle before Darvalics ultimately gained the lead from Morrison.

The race ran caution free until lap twenty two when something broke off of Phil Morrison’s truck and brought out the caution. On the restart Jimmy Gill spun out on the frontstretch. The rest of the race ran cautionless with Steven Darvalics taking the win with Jimmy GIll and Anthony Sergi completing the top three spots.

Jamie Castleberry sat on the pole for the fifty lap Florida Suncoast Outlaw Street Stock feature. Jim Meiser took the lead coming out of turn two and led until lap eight before Shane Leonard over took the position from Meiser.

The first caution came out on lap ten after Larry Braswell drove into the side of Shane Leonard going into turn two that sent both cars spinning.
On the restart Danny Daniels Jr took the lead away from Shane Leonard. Daniels led until lap eighteen when Shane Leonard re-took the lead.

At the half way point Danny Daniels Jr. spun out in turn two. Larry Braswell brought out the fianl caution after he almost hit the turn four wall head on, Thankfully Braswell had good brakes! Shane Leonard went on to claim the victory with Danny Daniels Jr in second and Jim Meiser was third.

The Fab 4’s were the final race of the evening with Linda Badali leading the field to the start of the twenty five lap race. Badali led the first lap with the caution coming out after the lap was completed for the spinning car of Nick Callin in turn four.

On the restart Jason McGonnell took over the lead from Badali. The next caution came out on lap four for the spinning car of Linda Badali, who had spun out in turn four. Corey Malinowski took over the top spot from Jason McGonnell on the restart.

Lap eighteen saw the final caution of the night, after Phillip Ellis had gotten into the back of Paul Richards Jr going into turn one and sent Richards Jr. spinning. Corey Malinowski took home the win with Paul Richards Jr in second and Jason McGonnell finishing in third.

Mark Gimmler wins Checkered Flag Sprints feature at Charlotte County Motorsports Park

Punta Gorda, FL…The 2010 points season started this past Saturday night at the Charlotte County Motorsports Park. There were some new faces running around in the pits and some drivers moving up to other divisions, but all were eager to get the new season going.
 
The Bandoleros were the first feature race of the night with young, Reese Chase sitting on the pole for the twelve, lap feature. Taylor McFadden immediately took his car to the front with the Ryan Shattuck and Mark Hooven hot on his heels. McFadden would lead the first, four laps before being bypassed for the lead from Mark Hooven, along with Ryan Shattuck. The entire feature ran caution free, but Mark Hooven and Ryan Shattuck battled for the lead up until the checkered flag waved. Mark Hooven took home the win with Ryan Shattuck settling for second and Taylor Mcfadden finished in third.
 
Stuart Vandevender, was the pole sitter for the twenty five, lap Pro 4 race. Vandevender took the lead at the drop of the green flag and lead until lap four, when Derrick Horton took over the position. The first caution came out on lap eight, after David Doty spun around Shane Moore in turn one. Derrick Horton still held the lead on the restart of lap eight, with Ken Badali not to far behind. Meanwhile, Paul Richards was making his way through the field and by lap fifteen, he had caught up to first and second place.

With two laps remaining Chelsea Lajoie brought out the final caution when she spun her car around in turn one,setting up a green,white and checkered finish. On the restart Derrick Horton was still able to hold off Ken Badali and Paul Richards, leaving the battle for the second position. Derrick Horton was the winnerwith Paul Richards in second and Ken Badali was third.
 
Thunder Trucks saw James Wright on the pole for there twenty five, lap feature with Wright leading from the start until the checkered flag waved with the entire feature running caution free. Finishing in second was 2009 Thunder Trucks, points champion Lance Sober with rookie Dave Johnson in third.
 
The Fab 4’s had Aaron Hargrove leading the field to the start of the twenty five, lap feature. On the start Nick Callin got into the side of Linda Badali in turn four, which resulted in a complete restart. The restart was good with Kyle Rice taking the lead with the first race caution coming out on lap five, when Linda Badali spun in turn one. Rice held the lead with Robert Conant not to far behind Rice. On lap fourteen, Miranda Cole, who had just gotten lapped by leader Kyle Rice, spun out second place runner Robert Conant going into turn two.

Three laps later Kerrington McFadden spun his car around in turn two, bringing out the yellow flag. On the restart, coming out of turn two Kyle Rice and Paul Richards Jr., were battling for the lead. The two made contact on the backstretch which sent Rice spinning into turn three. Kyle Rice was given back the lead and Paul Richards Jr., was sent to the tail end of the field.

The second restart was good with Rice still holding the lead and Paul Richards Jr quickly making his way back through the field. By lap twenty one, Richards Jr. was on RIce’s back bumper. The two battled it out again for the lead, with Paul Richards Jr side by side with Kyle Rice for the lead on the backstretch, the following lap.


Going into turn three the two made contact again with both Rice and Richards Jr., both spinning. Paul Richards Jr. was handed the lead while Kyle Rice night ended after hitting the wall after he spun. In his first race ever, Paul Richards Jr., took home the win with Robert Conant in second and Aaron Hargrove rounded out the top three.
 
The Checkered FLag Sprint Series, made there first stop of the 2010 season at CCMP for there thirty, lap feature. It was a Gimmler front row with Mark Gimmler on the pole and his brother Gary Gimmler on the outside. Mark Gimmler took his car to the front at the wave of the green flag.

As the race went on Mark Gimmler started to pull away from second place Gary Gimmler and with Amanda Ferguson and Mickey Kempgens battling for the third position. The first caution to come out was on lap sixteen, after Keith Butler looped his Sprint car around in turn three.

Two laps later the caution came out again after the throttle stuck on Mike Tharpe, going into turn three. Thankfully, Tharpe, was able to keep his Sprint car off the wall. On the restart Mark Gimmler, continued where he left off with Gary Gimmler still sitting in second while Ferguson and Kempgens kept up the race for the third position. Mark Gimmler went on to claim the victory with Gary Gimmler in second and Mickey Kampgens was able to hold off Amanda Ferguson, to take the third place position.
 
Mitch Verhaagh, was the pole sitter for the twenty five, lap feature for the Legend cars. On the start Mark Hooven, got loose going into turn one and shot up the track and spun around. Josh Williams was collected and hit the tires up on the wall in turn two. The damage was extensive enough to end Josh Williams night, however Mark Hooven was able to continue.

Mitch Verhaagh grabbed the lead on the restart of the race and led for two laps before 2009 Legends, points champion Devin McLeod took over the lead. On lap two,
the caution came out for Mark Hooven when he spun out on the front stretch. Three laps later Brady Marshall, brought out the caution when he spun in turn four.

McLeod was holding a good lead when Brady Marshall, drew the caution again on lap sixteen after his spin in turn two. Devin McLeod took the victory with Mitch Verhaagh in second and Mike Fazio took third place.
 
The Juniors’ Trim Shop Road Warriors ended up being the last feature of the evening. The race was scheduled to be twenty five laps, but due to the 11:30 Pm curfew they only got in seventeen laps. Randy Kile sat on the pole for the race, which turned into a wreck fest!

On the start Codey Benoit, had gotten into the back of Willard Hadden on the front stretch, which sent Hadden spinning with the field trying to dodge Hadden, but did collected Jesse Gargus. On the restart Jason Miller got sideways coming out of turn four, Miller tried to save it, but ended up spinning on the front stretch, collecting Clete Trimmer.

On the second restart, Chris Scott got into CHris Loney in turn one and Loney came to a stop at the top of turn two, with a flat tire. The field was then lined up in a single file with one last attempt to get the race started. After three restarts, they finally got a lap in when the caution came out yet again. Chris Scott hit the backstretch wall hard and one of his tires went flying over the fence into the pits.

No one was injured in the pits and Chris Scott was fine, but the contact with the wall ended his night. On the restart, Logan Leonard ducked is car under Randy Kile going into turn one, battling for the lead. The two got locked with one another and spun. Logan Leonard ended up with a busted radiator, which ended his night and Randy Kile was given back the lead. The rest of the race ran relatively clean, however time ran out and the race was ended after only seventeen laps being completed.

Randy Kile was the winner with Codey Benoit in second and Mike Crooks in third. After the race in tech, second place finished Codey Benoit, was disqualified for being to light. This handed second place over to Mike Crooks and third place went to RIck Reed, who originally came on fourth place.

Mark Gimmler tops Checkered Flag Sprints at Charlotte County

The Checked Flag Sprint Series (CFSS) kicked off its third year and the start of the 2010 season at Charlotte County Motorsports Park on Saturday February 20.

The pill pull system was used to set the line ups for the two heat races. Robbie Hackett in the 21A car had the pole for the start of the ROD END SUPPLY first heat race.19 of Keith Butler took the lead on lap one and held onto the lead and took the first heat race win of the season.

The pole position for the start of the SALDANA second heat went to Michael Tharp in the J1. Mark Gimmler in 51 took the initial race lead went on to win the heat.

Pills were again pulled to determine the BROWN & MILLER feature race line up, Mark Gimmler in the 51 had the pole and Gary Gimmler in the 29 was on the outside. As the green flag dropped it was Mark Gimmler who made the best start and took the early race lead, leaving his brother Gary behind him .

It looked like it was going to be a caution free race until contact between the 21 of Jimmy Alvis and the 19 of Keith Butler sent Keith sliding up into turn 3 wall brought out the first of two cautions. Keith Butler in the 19 car was able to restart and rejoin the race.

The race went back to green with Mark Gimmler in the lead, but only one lap later the second caution flag came out when Michael Tharpe  in the J1 car hit the tires at back gate which sent him into the wall of turn 3 and took out front axle and wheels.

On the finish Mark Gimmler was the winner with his brother Gary Gimmler with 2nd, Mickey Kempgens with 3rd, Keith Butler with 4th, and Amanda Ferguson with 5th.
