Rookie Karlin Ray takes 2nd win of 2012

Karlin Ray’s rookie season in the Citrus County Speedway Pure Stock division has been up and down. While the young driver has shown he has the speed to contend, he had lacked the consistency to run up front. Combine that with some mid season motor problems, and any other rookie may have let that shake their confidence. Saturday night, Ray would return with his new power plant for the first time since his first feature win ever in May. After coming away victorious in his heat race, Ray (72) benefited from the two row feature inversion, starting in the 3rd position for the 20 lap Pure Stock feature. Sheri Makula (27) would jump to the early lead from her pole position and look to run away from the field. (more…)

Florida State Modified Championship

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media 7-16-12

Ocala, FL – On Friday night the stars of the Scorpion Racing Products Modified ranks take to the clay as they look to be the best. The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks will join them and entertain like no one else can.

Kyle Bronson dominated early but the last 5 features have had 5 different winners from 3 teams. Bronson has led in nearly every feature and 2 of his losses have come from mechanical failures. Bronson is a heavy favorite but Rich Pratt knows how to win the big money- he won last year’s One Last One For PJ Wiggins! Pratt will have to get back on track and also hold off Dalton Lanich. Lanich is very quiet but makes plenty of noise with his underfunded #77 from the Kent Corbin shop. (more…)

Ocala, FL – RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators went all out and some had reasons bigger than you would think.

Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models started the night off with a bang. Accidents started early when Steve Shead found himself going around in turn 1 as David Showers, Jr. and Paul Shead made contact that would end Paul’s night. Phil Cobb would lead after 1 in a tight battle with David Showers who would steal it from him on lap 3. Caution would fly moments later as Ricky Land spun in turn 4 and Tyler Clem, making just his 2nd start, spun to avoid. (more…)

Open Wheel Mania II Modifieds Motorcycles Sportsmen Bombers

We hope you enjoyed your Independence Day Holiday, and this week certainly is another big one in our area. Red, White, and Blues Week is here and what a way to follow up the 4th of July. For those of you who may not know, Red , White and Blues Week is a Military based celebration highlighted by the World Famous Blue Angels Pensacola Beach Air Show. And it also rates as one of the biggest nights of the year at 5 Flags Speedway, as many of the thousands of extra people in town will make their way to the Speedway on Friday Night as a prelude to the Saturday beach activities. And 5 Flags has a great night planned for all you race Fans.

With the cancellation of the TBARA Winged Sprint Cars due to low participation, 5 Flags was able to nab the Southern Motorcycle Asphalt Racing Series as a more than suitable replacement. A strong turnout of both Novice and Pro riders are expected, and it will be interesting to see if anyone can “bring it” to Pensacola’s Rob McClendon, who has been on a real hot streak as of late. A Time To Reflect

7-10-12  Ocala, FL – Bubba Raceway Park returns this Saturday with the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators but let’s take a look back on the season so far.

The RaceCar Engineering Late Models started 2012 off much like 2011 ended- Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. smiling in Coors Light Victory Lane. This race held on March 3rd would also be Lawton Minchew’s final race at Bubba Raceway Park before his untimely passing just a few weeks later. The next week Mark Whitener struck back in his Barry Wright chassis with a big win while Jason Fitzgerald surprised with a runner-up finish. Lloyd held the points lead with a 6th place finish. After a break they returned on the 31st and Richard Ferry put his Snow Bros. 17 in Coors Light Victory Lane by holding off ‘Dent in a magnificent race. (more…)
