Halloween Spooktacular

By- Jim Rouse (10-22-12) Ocala, FL – The RaceCar Engineering Late Models will take the tops off this week and the Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars will go wingless while the Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators make it a wild night with 5 spooktacular divisions. There will also be a Trick-Or-Treat on the frontstretch and a costume contest!

Matt Kurtz is putting up numbers not seen since Danny Martin, Jr. all of 1 year ago. Kurtz almost seems unstoppable at this moment but he has Martin, Mark Ruel, Jr., AJ Maddox, Stephen Darvalics, and Tyler Godwin chasing him down. In fact, Kurtz has 5 wins while those 5 have just 1 each (at Bubba Raceway Park)! Do not, however, count out drivers like former champion Ryan Partin, legendary Robbie Smith, and consistent Tony Agin. It’s up to the field to stop the Jacksonville Jet from flying away. Oh, and, he hasn’t lost yet when the wings are off in 2012.

Mark Whitener is looking for his 2nd title in 3 years at Bubba Raceway Park and he has a solid lead. Bo Allen and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. are chasing him and could spoil the party quickly. Richard Ferry, Christian Augspurger, and Jason Fitzgerald have put up some big points and they’ve won big races in a division that seems more wide open than usual. Tyler Ivey, Jeff Mathews, and Keith Nosbisch have also visited Coor’s Light Winner’s Circle in 2012 as they show that for the first time in a few years the division is anyone’s to win in. (more…)

Shelnut Makes it Two in a Row

It was a great night of racing, after having to cancel a few races due to nowhere to park the fans, due to flooded parking. Mother Nature was kind this week and the fans were treated to great side by side, door to door racing action at the Punta Gorda Speedway.

T.Q. Midget were the first feature of the night, the 63 of Mike Bleusar jumped out to the lead and never looked back. The T.Q.’s ran their twenty five lap feature, caution free,  Bleusar stayed on the gas while being chased by Rob “the cowboy” Kohler. David Patterson from Port Charlotte had a fast car coming in second in the heat but adjusted on the car for the feature and had to settle for fifth while Jamie Barnum came home third.

Legends also ran caution free and saw the 7 of Mike Verhaagh out of Fort Myers run start to finish while being chased down by Tony Steinbuck of Tamarac. Carl Haag of Port St Lucie would finish third.

Cowboy Cadillac gave the fans some action as they always do, running bumper to bumper and door to door. Mike Bialecki of Arcadia had a fast truck and was dominating till eight to go, when a caution came out and trucks got tangled, sending Bialecki to the pits to change a flat tire. Bialecki  pitting gave the lead over to John Pummell Jr. and it took Bialecki one lap to get back to second and fight for the win with Pummell. It was John Pummell Jr from Arcadia that came home first, Mike Bialecki second and Trey Almand of Port Charlotte third. (more…)

Grimm outruns Open Wheel Modified field at Citrus County Speedway

Citrus County Speedway fans were treated to an excellent race program, and a pit area with 114 cars this past Saturday night. The night got started off with time trial qualifying for the Open Wheel Modified division, to help set the field for their 75 lap feature event. After all 25 drivers took their best of 2 laps, Richie Smith (289) was the man to beat with a fast lap of 14.28 sec, following him in 2nd was the 61 of Wayne “Rocket man” Jefferson, and L J Grimm (25) in 3rd. After the fan determined 3 row invert for the feature, the front row would be occupied by Kyle Maynard (127) and Curtis Neumann (01). Maynard would see his night end early with steering damaged suffered in the warm up laps for the feature took the green. This would move the inside row up, and now put Grimm on the pole position. At the drop of the green the top two drivers would race door to door before Neumann would find the traction he needed to power to the lead in the outside lane. Smith had settled into the third position on the start, and soon put the pressure on Grimm for 2nd. Smith would move make an inside move on Grimm for 2nd,  and sneak by to take the runner up spot. Smith then set his sights on the leader Neumann, and challenge for the lead by lap 12. Smith would again take to the inside lane, forcing Neumann to the high side, where he was slowed by lapped traffic. Smith would use the lapped cars to his advantage, and take the lead away at lap 13. Neumann would fall all the way to the 4th position before he could get back in line behind the leaders. (more…)

Keith Nosbisch Returns To Victory Lane At East Bay Raceway Park

October 20, 2012 – Tampa, FL – Late Models, Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, Outlaw Fours and V8 Warriors were all here tonight at The Clay by the Bay.

The first feature of the night went to the Street Stocks. Garry Sheffield and Tim Powers won their heat races and made up the front row for the feature event. Tim Powers took the early lead, but on lap three, the red came out as Jimmy Baker and Kenny Myers tangled on the front stretch. Both drivers were ok, but Myers was not able to continue.  Several cautions came out throughout  the race until the final caution as points leader Eric Moon and Donnie Reed tangled in turn two. When the final green waved, Tim Powers picked up his second feature win here at East Bay for the 2012 Season. Matthew Grissom, Dennis Wilson, Jr., Buck Woodhouse and Brian Morgan rounded out the top five.

Outlaw Fours were next with Billy Howard and Jesse Foster winning their heat races. For the feature event it was a pair of young drivers making up the front row, Brandon Yates and Megan Meyer. Yates took the early lead until Meyer spun in turn two after running third. On the restart, Yates continued to lead, but on lap five Yates and Hohlbaugh tangled sending Hohlbaugh to the pits. With only one more caution coming out, Foster was able to take over the top spot and go on to win his very first feature  at East Bay Raceway Park. Howard went on to finish second as Brittany Yates, J.R. Baker and Brandon Yates rounded out the top five. (more…)

Under Pressure

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (10-20-12) Ocala, FL – As October begins to close the season does as well. The Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks took to the 1/3 mile and put on some of the best shows of 2012 at Bubba Raceway Park.

First up were the Hobby Stocks who saw championship contender Trevor Gamble shoot from pole to the early lead. On lap 11 caution would fly for the first time when Don Woosley grabbed too much of the berm and spun his #81 in turn 2 right in front of the leader. Just 1 caution slowed the feature event that Trevor Gamble seemed to win with ease and it helped him extend his points lead. Rodney Wright was 2nd all night but he lost points in a critical race. Hunter Gustafson took a career night to the end and finished 3rd with Mike Stalnaker and Joe Boyd the end of a solid top 5.

Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models would go out next but on lap 1 JO Nobles triggered a multi-car crash including Tyler Clem, Steve Shead, and the McGillivray boys. Christian McGillivray would be the only retirement. David Showers would take the early lead from his pole position but would lose it on a lap 4 restart as Forrest Gough shot to the lead. Gough would hit the wall with 6 to go as he tried to pass lapped traffic. (more…)

Back To Normal?

Jim Rouse (10-15-12) Ocala, FL – Bubba Raceway Park has just 5 weeks of racing left and this one will showcase our Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds as well as the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks.

In the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds it seems as if Jeff Mathews has lost his reign but he has not quit yet as he took max points over Kyle Bronson last time out. Bronson has a massive lead and Mathews will have to win out to have a chance. Dalton Lanich isn’t in much better position but he can set up a strong 2013 with a few wins at the end of the season in his Chris Williams machine. Rich Pratt and Garret Stewart have contended for wins in 2012 but haven’t quite broken into Coors Light Winner’s Circle yet; their time will come and when it does it’ll get quite exciting for all.

JO Nobles and David Showers have separated themselves from the competition in the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models but Nobles looks to have the title wrapped up soon. Forrest Gough has had an interesting season and looks to complete it with a trip to Coors Light Winner’s Circle while he tries to hold off young Christian and Caleb McGillivray who are also seeking their first wins of 2012. Others such as Kevin Mills and David Showers, Jr. have broken into Victory Lane but 2012 has certainly been all about the #18. (more…)

Ellis Wins Mod Mini 50 at Citrus County Speedway, Catarelli Sews up Championship

18 Modified Mini Stocks started off the night of hot racing action with time trial qualifying. Once all the drivers had taken their best shot at the time clock, Robbie Storer (19) came out on top with a lap of 14.86 seconds. Following him were Steve Griffin (5x) in 2nd, and James Ellis (98) in 3rd. After the fan determined 5 row invert, Kevin Harrod (06) would find himself on the pole position alongside LeRoy Moore (99). Harrod would jump out to the early lead with Moore settling into 2nd. Harrod would survive 3 early race cautions and hold onto the lead over Moore. 6th place starter Clint Foley (7) would find his way to 3rd just before a lap 5 restart, Foley would quickly move by Moore and Harrod  to the lead just after the green flag flew. Foley was now you leader with Harrod, Jeremy Gerstner (2), Moore, and Ellis following behind. The nights 1st serious incident would come at lap 21 as contact between Griffin and Moore would send cars sliding to avoid the incident. When the dust settle the cars of Moore and Chris Allen (33) received the worst end of the incident, ending their nights on the hook. Griffin would be sent to the rear for the 2nd time of the night for the restart. Foley would again lead on the restart, and pull out to nearly a half a lap lead over the rest of the field in short order. Behind him Ellis and Storer would get by Gerstner for 3rd and 4th respectively. (more…)
