Champions Crowned At Bubba Raceway Park

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (11-24-12) Ocala, FL – The Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators wrapped up their title fights while the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks must wait another week to smell the trophy.

First up were the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators as they wrapped up the championship between Steve Johnson and Brandon Haseleu. A 10 lapper started with Reid Christensen out in front of the field as he looked for another win. Haseleu would struggle as he actually pulled off for the night early which allowed Steve Johnson to take home the title. On lap 6 David Pate smacked the outside wall out of turn 4 to bring the only caution of the race out. Steve Johnson would retire as his radiator began to steam and he knew the title was his. That left just Christensen and Stephen Frankland on track. They would finish in that order while Johnson, Pate, and Brandon Haseleu rounded out the top 5.

The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks were up 2nd and Bubba Durbin would lead early. A lap 5 caution for DJ Horiski’s turn 4 spin gave Brandon Elwood the shot he needed to jump to the lead. Elwood would then lead through multiple cautions, including a completely synchronized spin from Brian Mullins and Jonathan Appleby, before giving way to “IceMan” Chad Scranton with just 4 to go. Scranton took home the $1000 prize, along with his weekend sweep, while Bubba Durbin finished 2nd. Elwood would finish a solid, yet disappointing, 3rd with Jonathan Appleby and Jeff Stalnaker, Jr. behind him. (more…)

Bubba Is Thankful Weekend Starts Off Strong

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (11-23-12) Ocala, FL – The points season has wound down and tomorrow is our final night of action before we confirm all but one champion. The RaceCar Engineering Late Models, in conjunction with the penultimate round of the Sunoco/Buddy’s Home Furnishings United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series, and Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars ended their seasons while the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators put points on the board before they wrap it all up.

Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds opened the show for us. Kyle Bronson led from outside pole as he chased history but had “4-Time” Jeff Mathews behind him. “The Killer” was struggling with lapped traffic while Mathews chased him down and this all on a 10-lap green run. The green run didn’t end until lap 15 when Rich Pratt’s #78 broke and slowed right in front of a group of 4 cars. Pratt never stopped but, in the name of safety, a caution was thrown. The caution allowed Mathews and Buzzie Reutimann to take another shot at Bronson. Dalton Lanich would bring out the second caution as he tried to avoid the broken-down car of Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. As the field approached the 2-to-go sign Jeff Mathews’ #33 broke leaving Bronson to take home his 13th win of 2012. Buzzie Reutimann finished 2nd while Garret Stewart bettered teammate Dalton Lanich for 3rd. Paul Snyder finished 5th in his debut. (more…)

Make Your Point

Jim Rouse (11-19-12) Ocala, FL – Bubba Is Thankful Weekend will see 6, maybe 7, champions crowned over the 2 days as the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars all get at least 1 more shot on the clay. Friday’s event will host Modifieds, Thunder Stocks, and Gladiators as well as the finale for Late Models and Sprint Cars.

Mark Whitener and the #58 Big Frog Motorsports team have put up some big numbers in 2012 and it seems inevitable that “The Magic Man” will take the title back to Middleburg. There’s still plenty to fight for, however, as glory and $3000 sits on the line. Christian Augspurger, fresh off of a win at his home track in the UDLMCS, will try to take home another big win (yes, his other win did come in a $3000 race over? #58). Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., Tyler Ivey, Richard Ferry, the Nosbisch brothers, Bo Allen, and Jeff Mathews will throw their hands into the mix and show what an All-Star caliber race is all about. A champion will receive his crown and it’s going to be magical. (more…)

Rookie Driver Chad Chastain Makes it Two Wins in a Row

The first feature of the night was the Rookie Truck class for twenty five laps, that saw Travis Miller of North Ft. Myers on the pole and Corey Bigley outside. Miller took the first lap but Bigley quickly got by him to run the first half of the race in the lead, while Chad Chastain of Alva was making his way through the field. Half way mark, Chastain made the move on Bigley to take over the lead and go onto win the race.

T.Q. Midgets were up next and what a race it was when the race was red flagged after just two laps in the books. Coming out of turn four it appeared that Chris Gimmler got loose and spun flipping over on his side. While trying to avoid the 51, the 11 of Jimmy Wilkens III of Ft Pierce spun and landed on its side. David Patterson of Port Charlotte came out of four, went down low, hit the grass and the Midget went airborne, spinning several times in the air. The car landed and bounced and rolled several times before stopping upside down. Once the clean up was done it was the 7 of Jamie Barnum of Brooksville that went on to win the race while Rob Kohler was a close second and Mike Belusar was third. (more…)

Miller Takes Second Points Title in a Row at Citrus County Speedway

Doug Miller entered Saturday nights final Open Wheel Modified event with a 42 point lead in the championship standings. Miller would need to take the green for his heat and feature to claim his second division title in as many years. Miller would do just that, and then turn his attention to winning the 40 lap feature event.

Jarret Snowden (4) and Troy Robinson (0) would lead the 15 car field to the green flag, Snowden would get the early lead on lap 1. Robinson would quickly go to work on the leader, and move to the top spot just a few laps later. Snowden would continue to battle on the outside as the pack was bearing down on him. Lap 12 would see Snowden involved in some three wide racing down the backstretch, as the drivers entered turn 3 everyone ran out of racing room pretty quickly. Snowden would get the worst end of the chaos, ending up spun into the backstretch wall. Robinson would lead on the restart, but now had a hungry Doug Miller (53) and Richie Smith (289) in his mirror. Miller would take to the low side after the restart, on move by Robinson for the lead, bringing Smith with him. Lap 18 would see the next caution for contact between Herb Neumann Jr (01) and Tommy Schnader (19). Both drivers were trading paint in the laps leading up to the caution, which ended with Schnader spinning, and both drivers being sent to the rear. Miller would lead on the restart, but Smith soon turned up the pressure after the green. Smith looked high and low, finally finding a way by on the inside to take the lead at lap 27. (more…)
