Three New Winners In Four Divisions At Bubba Raceway Park

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

With the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators all running there was much to be gained and lost on the clay. Of course, racing and pitting wasn’t all that would go on out on the clay.

The Mini Stocks came in knowing that the conditions were right for a new winner as they had 2 weeks to work and rest. Lap 2 saw Shirlene Hammond, the previous race winner, take the lead from David Pope. However, 3 laps later, while attempting to lap the slower Kody Kinsey, Hammond and Kinsey made contact and the 2 went up to the wall, ending both drivers nights and repeat dreams. David Pope would be handed the lead 1/3 through. The restart gave “Hot Shot” Keith Briggs a chance to take the lead and he shot the 19T to the lead. The half-way point arrived and Sherman Pope and Dean Kinsey had a spin out of turn 4. The final 7 laps were green and “Hot Shot” put the Xtreme Racing 19T in Victory Lane. Brittany Yates took some points with 2nd, 2010 champion Nick Kerr took the final podium position, David Pope put the 81 in 4th, and Ray Folwell rounded out the top 5.

A $500 to win race was enough to put 28 Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks on track and that led to some great racing. Jonathan Appleby passed Brian Shea for the lead on lap 1, but the 2 made contact on the next lap and Shea’s spin was deemed “avoidable contact” meaning Appleby was put to the back and Shea would hold the lead. Brian Shea and 2nd place Brian Mullins both jumped the restart once, and when they started the 3rd time it was Mullins in the lead. Lap 3 saw Vaughn Woodall stop in turn 2, ending his night and costing him some valuable points. Lap 4 saw Chad Scranton pass his team-mate for the lead that he wouldn’t let slip away from him. Lap 5 and the yellow was out again for debris while Jason Gamble took the 27 to pit lane. The lap 6 yellow came out for the stopped car of Brian Mullins due to a tire. Meanwhile Appleby was slashing through the field. Gamble lost his right rear in turn 4 on lap 10 meaning that the top 3 in points would finish outside the top 20. Scranton was out front holding off every threat from Luke Sadler and Brian Shea when the yellow came out on lap 18 for Tony Campbell and his lost tire. It was a battle of the “S” with Scranton taking his 4th win in 5 starts while Luke Sadler had to settle for runner-up. In the 3rd spot was Brian Shea who started up front this week-end, Ryan Lasik battled and kept the car clean for a 4th place run, and Jonathan Appleby did ‘Eat Good In The Neighborhood’ as he came from the back for 5th.

RaceCar Engineering Late Model excitement got under way on lap 4 when Andy Cobb and VP Pipken had a spin in turn 2. Lap 6 saw Cobb drop to the turn 1 apron and Jamie Slatton stopped in turn 3 bringing out the yellow flag. Jack Nosbisch took the lead from Kyle Van Sickle on lap 7 and started to pull away when Christian Augspurger stopped his 35 on the backstretch. During this period Mark Whitener and Kyle Van Sickle angered each other and on the restart it was Whitener washing up the frontstretch and Kyle Van Sickle ended up between a wall and a Late Model and as the cars bounced down it took Bo Allen and Donnie Chappell to the infield. Van Sickle and Chappell went straight to the pit area, but Whitener and Allen waited. A skirmish broke out in turn 1 and the word was that a Bo Allen crewman started the fight and the Big Frog Motorsports team of Whitener was involved as well. Both drivers were immediately disqualified for conduct, whether by driver or crew members. However, the best was yet to come and 3 laps after the restart it was “Iceman” Austin Kirkpatrick in the lead. Iceman had to hold Nosbisch off once more after John Koller’s stop in turn 1 on lap 15. Iceman was up to the task and held ’em off for the win with Jack Nosbisch the runner up. Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. took 3rd after some minor trouble with race control, JO Nobles ran a masterful race for 4th, and Dillon Wood ran 5th for some good points.

Sammy Dale took the lead from “British Bulldog” Stephen Frankland at the beginning and Dale never looked back. It was lap 10 and a debris caution was out. The very next lap saw Ken McCloud stop on the turn 4 apron bringing out another yellow. The restart saw Ray Hunter and Harold Lewis make contact and both were to the back. Lewis, however, exited the course. It was a sprint and Sammy Dale took the trophy home with Reid Christensen 2nd, “The Dominator” Steve Cox 3rd, Steve Johnson put the S&S 81 in 4th, and Casey “Insert Your Nickname” Feaster rounded out the top 5.

Next week-end is UMP Open-Wheel Modified action for $1500 and Double Points, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints Association racing. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline.

BRONSON SPEEDWAY GOES GREEN SATURDAY JULY 30th.

By Dave Westerman, Bronson Speedway Media

After months of preparation Bronson Speedway is ready. Drivers, crews,
families, friends and fans are being welcomed back to a speedway with
quite a history of exciting high bank racing.

New owners Chris and Ann Young have a vision for Bronson Speedway that
promises to take you back to grass roots affordable racing. Every detail
of their plan has taken into consideration fiscal responsibility so that
the racer, the crew and the fan can enjoy the sport they love, all while
conserving costs.

Division rules have been revised to keep costs down, pit admissions and
grandstand admission prices are reasonable and food prices at the
concession stand afford families the ability to eat at the track so as not
to miss any of the action.

A Saturday night schedule format will allow racers to complete their work
week and then plan on a great evening of racing. Racing will continue
each Saturday night through the end of October. In November, Jim McClain
has already signed on to sponsor the "TRI-Performance "Thanksgiving Extra
Helping of Speed Legend Invitational." Legend teams are being invited
from across the country.

This event will be held annually and promises to generate alot of
excitement, action and entertainment for the fans of Bronson Speedway.

On the schedule each week will be the Open Wheel Modified, Sportsman,
Purestock and INEX Legend Cars. Specialty and other events will be
added in the future.

Mike Odwasny, formerly of Mountain Speedway in PA, is leading the staff
at Bronson Speedway. Mike comes with a wealth of knowlege as he has been
both driver and owner, and spent the latter part of his career being
involved heavily with tech and race director responsibilities at Mountain
Speedway.

Jimmy Dunford is the Pit Steward and Jimmy Durden returns to the flag
stand. Chief scorer Kaycie Chambers is also returning to Bronson Speedway
and will have Jessica Markham to assist with timing and scoring.

Charlotte Dunford is returning as Concessions Director, and man can she
cook! The fans and drivers won't go hungry at Bronson Speedway! Mike
Schenk of Mike's Ice is the Event Coordinator and a special thanks goes
out to Mike for all he has done to help bring Bronson Speedway back to
life.

Another thanks must be extended to Roger and Marie Mion who have flown
down to Bronson Speedway from NY to revise, repair and revamp
communications at Bronson Speedway.

Gates open Saturday afternoon a 4:30 p.m., practice begins at 6 and the
first feature event begins at 7:30.

Drifters, the newest addition to Bronson Speedway, will close the show
under the lights with tire squeal, smoke and driving skills that are
sure to make this opening day a memorable one.

Interest among race teams for the season opener has been at a fever
pitch with many already registering to race. One driver looking to
return is Gene Owen. Owen has numerous Bronson Speedway championships
to his credit and he is "in it to win it" in the Open Wheel Modified
ranks as he has attended all three pre-race practices held at the
speedway.

Robbie Cooper, one of the standout OWM drivers in the State, calls
Bronson home as he cut his teeth racing at Bronson Speedway. Cooper
has pre-registered for the event along with, Brian Hutcheson, L.J.
Grimm, Steven Hise and Gator Hise just to name a few.

Rick Kase and Fred Tuski will lead the charge in the Sportsman division,
Chris Young and Rick Kepley have already entered the INEX Legend Car
action. Steven Hise, Larry Welter, Jr., Victoria Spearin and David Walls
are set for Pure Stock racing, and, among those ready to buzz into Hornet
action is Mike Copeland.

Bronson Speedway, in an effort to race against hunger, locally is
partnering with www.rockcanroll.com, a hunger relief organization that
organizes food drives and then enlists the help of volunteers to deliver the
food to local pantries. So, Bronson Speedway is asking anyone
attending the season opener to bring a nutricious non-perishable
food donation. These donations will be collected at both the front
and pit gate and then will be delivered to The Childrens Table which
is a local food bank feeding local children in need.

Come on out to be part of history as Bronson Speedway goes green this
Saturday night.

Bubba Raceway Park: Points, Points, Points

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators are all on tap for this coming week-end and drivers are looking to cut and build points leads. All 4 of these divisions are unpredictable and could see 4 first-time winners.

The RaceCar Engineering Late Models have a familiar face up front in Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. Lloyd, however, hasn’t won a championship at Bubba Raceway Park since 1993, the last year of the old clay. Lloyd will also be gunning for his 3rd win in 2011. In contrast, winless driver Dillon Wood has used consistency to be the driver runner-up to Lloyd. Wood could break into victory lane at any time and cut that 19 point lead down. In 3rd place is a driver that has missed 1 event, but won the last 3. Defending champion Mark Whitener is just 29 points behind Lloyd and the 2 champions have had some great battles in the past. Johnny Collins hasn’t been the one applying pressure at the front, but when you look at the order at the end of the night it seems the 5 is right there in the top 5. Collins may be 61 points down, but if there’s 1 thing Collins will do that is fight to the end and that could make it interesting. In 5th is Bo Allen, 94 points out of the lead. Allen has hooked his 71 up and could put it in the victory circle by the end of the season. Early in the season Christian Augspurger, Tyler Ivey, and Darrell Padgett took wins, however, Augspurger’s didn’t count for points but he’s still 6th while Ivey is 8th and Padgett 13th.

With a $500 payday to the winner, the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks should be just as exciting as always. After the rainy race last week the drivers will hope for a dry track including points leader Jason Gamble. Gamble gained some much needed points, but still holds a slim 15 point lead over Vaughn Woodall. Both get help from team-mates as they drive for 3-car teams, Gamble for Eddie Tillander and Vaughn for his father, Woody. In 3rd, 25 back, is “Mr. Consistency” Jonathan Gillette. Gillette is still searching for career win #1 and it could come soon as he is always improving his 64. Asphalt-turned-dirt driver Gordon Cade was a threat on the old asphalt as he finished 3rd in the Hobby Stock championship in 2004. Cade is a spot lower but a few points closer to the leader 7 years later. Cade still searches for dirt-career win #1, but has come close. In a tie for 5th is Cade’s team-mate Brian Shea and Chad Scranton of Cheater Racing. They are 50 back. Scranton has 3 wins in 2011 while Shea has not won, but Shea has 3 top 3 finishes in his career including last week-end. Shea is close to that win while Scranton is close to 4 out of 6 (missing 1 event) in their chase for a championship.

Mini Stock drivers have had 2 weeks to rebuild, replace, and reward themselves after a great season so far. John Yates has his cars 1-2 with Ray Folwell the only points leader this season. Brittany Yates is 2nd, 21 points behind her team-mate. Both are race winners in 2011, but the young gun in 3rd is not. Ryan Babcock, the 16-year-old rookie, has masterfully driver the 9 to 3rd from the start. Babcock just received a power steering unit for his car and is the only driver in the top 5 without a DNF of DNS in 2011. Babcock will hope to hold Ray Ethridge off for 3rd. Ethridge has used consistent finishes to take 4th in the standings. In 5th is the ever-improving Chris Zimmermann. Zimmermann has 2 runner-up finishes and will do his best to get that first win and jump to the front of the standings. So far the Mini Stocks have 7 different winners in 2011. Tim Zackery and Buddy Pope won early in the season but those wins didn’t count for points. Charlie Staats, Roberto “TacoSon” Morfin, Jr., and Shirlene Hammond have added their names to the winners list. The Mini Stocks are truly a diverse division and the championship isn’t a lock for anyone.

The Gladiators have gone through some controversy over the past few days but they will race this Saturday night. Bubba said he wants more cars in the division, however. Steve Cox has put his P38 at the front of the field 6 times in his 7 starts and even that was a runner-up finish from the back. Cox, under the week-end rules for the division, will start dead-last. Starting in front of Cox will be 2nd place Reid Christensen. Christensen has been close to a win for the last month but has had Earnhardt luck. Christensen was relieved with a runner-up finish last week-end but won’t be staisfied until he takes a win. Brandon Haseleu will be right there with those 2 at the start as he has brought his 3H to the track every week-end and run well with it too. Haseleu is the defending David Reutimann Most Likely To Succeed Award champion and would like to get that first win. Also winless, but consistently improving, is Richard Todd. Todd has put his 43 in 4th and has a few runner-up finishes already. In 5th is Jerry Taylor. Taylor has driven the 10, 31, and 57 this season, but has always put it at the front. Taylor is close to a break-through win and has a lot of fans behind him. Scott Sullivan and Jonathan Green have each put the 28 in victory lane once and Casey “Black Lightning” Feaster took 3 non-points wins at the beginning of 2011.

Gates open at 4:30 with racing scheduled at 7. These divisions draw many fans and the early bird does indeed get the worm. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline!
