BRP Week 1, Day 3: UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds

UMP Modifieds and Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks hit the clay once more with targets on 2 driver’s backs.

Amsoil V-8 Thunderstock action started with Davey Kinsey, Mike Stalnaker, and Gordon Cade rocketing through the field but on lap 1 Stalnaker slowed and ultimately brought the yellow out. The very next lap Justin Durbin overtook Kinsey for the lead right before Cody Johnson spun out of turn 4. Kinsey would not settle, however, and retook the lead on lap 5. The next lap saw Gordon Cade spin and the same of James Sullivan, however, their paths went different ways at this point- Cade took his spot in the back while Sullivan got angered and was ultimately DQd for “Actions detrimental to the sport of auto racing.” (more…)

Fast Talkers: Drivers discuss Florida’s upcoming season opener

Expectations are high as the World of Outlaws competitors prepare for Volusia

CONCORD, N.C. – Feb. 3, 2012 – With the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series closing in on its season-opening event, everyone is chomping at the bit.

That includes several full-time competitors, who are excited to start the season on Feb. 17-18-19 at the 41^st annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. It’s an event that includes all three major World of Outlaws series competing Feb. 14-25.

Jackie Nosbisch, Jr. Wins Opening Night Of The 36th Annual Winternationals

Feb. 2, 2012 – Tampa, FL. – The first night of the 36^th Annual Winternationals kicked off tonight with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Models Series with 53 cars qualifying for the A-Main event. It was Chris Cantrell picking up the fast time of the night from group one with a time of 15.865. That time put him on the pole for the first of four heat race events. In Group #2 it was Doug Horton picking up fast time, Group 3 went to Walker Arther and Group 4 went to Doug Watson.

Next up was the 2^nd Annual World Street Stock Championship. Three heat races were ran with Ritchie Stephens, Donnie Reed and Brian Hansford all picking up the wins. (more…)

2-2-2012 – Again the UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds took to the clay as did the V-8 Thunderstocks and this time was for glory.

The V-8 Thunderstocks kicked off action with a 20 lap event. Davey Kinsey pulled out to a lead while Jason Gamble pushed his #02 to the front. Lap 3 slowed the action when James Sullivan slowed in turn 3 and came to a halt in 4. Kinsey had his hands full with hard charging drivers such as Mike Stalnaker, Justin Durbin, Brian Shea, and Eddie Lake behind him. Kinsey, however, pressed on and pulled away while Stalnaker, Lake, and Shea battled for P2. On lap 17 things got crazy as Lake got loose out of turn 4. (more…)

NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Season Opens At East Bay’s 36th Annual Winternationals Starting Feb. 1st

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour opens the 2012 season on February 1 through 4 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL to begin the 36th Annual Winternationals. The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will present three complete shows over four days.

The first wheels will turn on Wednesday night, February 1 with an open practice session. There will be 40-lap $2,000-to-win events on Thursday night, February 2 and Friday night, February 3. The Saturday night, February 4 event will be 50 laps paying $3,000-to-win.

Over 50 drivers from at least 12 different states are expected for the three races, as the drivers traveling with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series take on the local favorites at East Bay Raceway Park. (more…)

Practice Begins for 2012 SpeedWeeks at Bubba Raceway Park

Jimmy Rouse, Bubba Raceway Park Media – The UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds and the V-8 Thunderstocks kicked off the first of 16 nights of SpeedWeeks action at Bubba Raceway Park with a practice for the drivers. Modified drivers such as Buzzie Reutimann, 4-time defending champion Jeff Mathews, Ivedent Lloyd Jr., and David Reutimann took to the track and put some quick laps down while many others got a feel for the 3/8 mile. The V-8 Thunderstocks saw some excitement with many 2-car teams hitting the clay and actually switching drivers mid-session. Defending champion Brian Shea put his new #19 on the clay while Jason Blackmer and Jason Gamble flung clay everywhere. Gamble, along with team-mate Brandon Tillander, continued to switch cars to see which they liked better. No major accidents occurred. The action starts at 7 tomorrow night and no one will want to miss it.

This Saturday Night At The Punta Gorda Speedway

Saturday night Feb 4th at the Punta Gorda Speedway it’s the Late Model Sportsman for 50 Laps for their first race of the season at the 3/8 mile semi banked asphalt oval.

Citrus County Speedway opens it’s 2012 season this Saturday night 2/4!
