Orlando SpeedWorld was back in action Friday night with some picture perfect weather as seven classes competed in NASCAR Whelan All-American Series action.
Daniel Keene slipped by early leader Ricky Moxley on lap 15 of the 25-lap Pro Late Model feature and went on to an easy victory slowed only by a lap 18 caution flag for a Zach Harris spin. Keene set the pace to the checker with Moxley a strong second over Brock Oglesby, Harris and Steven Simpson. Keene also won the heat race.
Dave Gleason led the opening lap of the Legend Car feature only to be passed by Keith Sinkula and the second lap. Sinkula’s time at the point was short-lived as heat winner Darin Coker grabbed the top spot on the third lap just before Gleason and Becca Monopoli tangled sending both strong-running cars to the rear of the field for the restart. From that point, Coker and fellow South Florida driver Sinkula drove away from the field to finish one-two ahead of Mason Ketterman. Gleason and Monopoli drove back through the field to finish fourth and fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Tony Steinbuck, Paul Ingram, Ted Ruffo, Dallas Ingram and Roger Englund. Coty Bibeau was unable to start due to a heat race crash. (more…)
Race fans will get their fill of action Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld as eight classes are scheduled to be in NASCAR Whelan All-American Series competition.
Friday’s program will feature the Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Legend Cars, Mini Stocks, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Strictly Stocks and Bandoleros. It will be just the second race of the year for the Pro Late Models, Sportsman Cars and the Legends.
A rainout on April 19th canceled the second appearance for both the Pro Lates and Sportsman while the Legend Cars have not raced since opening night, April 5, but look to have more Legend races added to the schedule in the coming months. Alan Bruns won the opening race for the Pro Late Models and is expected to be at the ready to make it two in a row. At the April 19th rainout, Bruns also had his Modified in the pits as well. Young Daniel Conlin, Jr. won in his first career outing in his new Sportsman car but expect him to have a host of new challengers this week. (more…)
As luck would have it, a light rain shower hit Orlando SpeedWorld just before the 8 pm start time but, after a delay of about an hour, the NASCAR Whelan All-American Series show went on as planned. The rain hit at just the wrong time as there was no sunshine or wind to help dry the track so it was up to track crews and the drivers to get the job done. A few adjustments were made to the program including scrapping the heat races to insure the show would end at a decent hour.
The 25-lap Super Late Model feature was dominated by Anthony Sergi of Geneva in the MJS Concrete Special as he led the event flag to flag. The race ran green to checker without a caution and Rich Clouser, the winner here two weeks ago, ran a strong second but could never muster the horses to catch Sergi. Brannen Hester took third position trailed by Bob Glover and John Kennedy.
The Super Stocks again put on their usual competitive race and it was Donny Funk finally getting the mechanical monkey off his back as he led most of the way after starting from the pole. Funk set the early pace but had Jeff Cuddy right on his bumper. On lap seven, the engine blew in Ron McCreary’s “Pepto Bismol” Buick and he coated the turn one and two area with oil. Jeff Cuddy spun in the oil while Brandon Christian also hit it and slapped the turn two wall. Everyone was able to continue with the exception of McCreary. (more…)
Orlando SpeedWorld returns to regular NASCAR Whelan All-American Series racing action Friday night with a six division program headed by the Super Late Models. Deland’s Rich Clouser led a strong 14-car field to the checker in the SLM feature two weeks ago and hopes to cash in again this week in his Sanford Auto Dealer’s Exchange Special wrenched by Bobby and Danny Sears. Expect Clouser to have a big group of challengers including young Anthony Sergi of Geneva and Cocoa’s Dusty Cornelius among others. Joining the Super Late Models will be the E-Modifieds, Pro Trucks, Super Stocks, Strictly Stocks and Bandoleros. Pit gates open at 4 pm, grandstands at 6 pm and racing starts promptly at 8 pm. General admission is $12 with all kids 12 and under admitted free of charge.

After a rainout last Friday night that was just a precursor of a very wet weekend in Central Florida, Orlando SpeedWorld is back in action this Friday and the weatherman is promising a Chamber of Commerce forecast this time. It was announced this week that the track is stepping up its effort to attract a bigger field of cars by raising purses providing the race teams Increase their participation. If 15 or more cars are entered, the purse for the top three positions will double for that class. This affects all classes with the exception of Super Late Models, Strictly Stocks and Bandoleros. Providing there are 15 cars entered, the purse for the Modifieds, E-Modifieds and Pro Trucks will increase to $500-320-220 for the top-three finishing spots. The Mini Stock purse for the top three would increase to $400-200-160 and the Super Stocks would see an increase to $300-160-140. The Super Late Model purse will remain the same, plus they will be the class eligible for national and regional points in the NASCAR Whelan All-American Series. (more…)
What looked to be just a passing shower turned out to be a torrential downpour for several minutes forcing track officials to cancel all racing activity Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld.
The storm dropped enough water to partly flood the infield and part of the pit area, and, with more rain expected in advance of a cold front, it was decided to call it a night just after 7:30pm.
SpeedWorld will try again next Friday night with the Super Late Models, E-Modifieds, Mini Stocks, Super Stocks, Pro Trucks, Strictly Stocks and Bandoleros set for action beginning at 8 pm.
