Bubba Army Late Models Headline Beginning Of August At Bubba Raceway Park

08032013Ocala, FL- The Bubba Army Late Models return to the 3/8 mile oval in Ocala while the E-Mods, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators join them for an outstanding night of racing.

Anthony, Florida’s Rich Pratt has taken his Groeb Farms #0 to the lead in the championship, but he has yet to win in a few years in the Late Model division. Pratt has shown the speed necessary to win, but two-time winner and defending champion Mark Whitener needs his third win in the Dave’s Towing #58 so he can close the 37-point gap to Pratt. A further 22 back is St. Petersburg’s not-yet-a-teenager Tyler Clem, a Tony Stewart Racing Developmental Driver. Clem, already a winner in the Limited Late Model ranks, has been brilliant in his Elder Ford of Tampa #14 and no one would be surprised if he soon becomes the youngest winner in North American Late Model racing. Dover, Florida’s Jeff Mathews has moved his Night Hawk Towing #33 into fourth and he sits only 71 behind the leader. Kyle Bronson continues to chase the NeSmith Touring Series Rookie of the Year (and championship too) in his Brandon Ford #40B, but he is fifth in the standings at Bubba Raceway Park. (more…)

July Showers Better Bring August Flowers. And Racing

07272013Jim Rouse Ocala, FL- After Bubba rained out for consecutive weeks for the first time in his reign on the oldest track in Florida, we hope to get one week-end of racing in the books in July. The Florida Mini Sprints make their third trip to Bubba Raceway Park and the E-Mods, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will join them for a fantastic night of racing.
Shane Nichols holds on to a fifteen point lead over Shane Taylor in the E-Mod division, even though Nichols has four wins in six features this season. Shawn Taylor makes it a true “name game” as he is stuck in third. Charlie Howard, Jr. and Roy Crain are 100 or more back, but they have climbed into the top five as they inch closer to the front. Big Night Of Racing This Weekend At Bubba Raceway Park

07202013Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL- The Bubba Army Late Models will take their shot at the 3/8 mile as will the Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, E-Mods, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators this Saturday night.
Rich Pratt still has a stranglehold on the Late Model points standings with a 35-point advantage over two-time winner Mark Whitener. “The Magic Man” sits another twenty-two up on Tyler Clem, the young driver that continues to impress at just ten years old. Jeff Mathews is up to fourth over good friend Kyle Bronson. Bronson won our season opener and has been as high as third in the Nesmith Touring Championship standings. Who will strike next in the Late Model division?
Charlie O’Neill is using consistency to stay ahead in the UMP Modified division, but his gap is down to three markers over Jeff Mathews. Mathews finally lost his streak of wins last time out, but he still leads the division in wins. Scott Kurtzner is only twenty-eight behind O’Neill, and Bryan Bernhardt- the Modified rookie- is only three behind Kurtzner in the tightest championship battle in recent history in the UMP Modifieds. Rich Pratt rounds out the top five. (more…)

Bubba Raceway Park Returns To Action With 360 Sprints On Tap

BRP BannerJim Rouse, Ocala, FL- The Bubba Army 360 Sprint Cars return to the 3/8 mile in Ocala this week-end, as do all the fans and employees after a well deserved week-end off to enjoy with friends and family. The Hobby Stocks and Limited Late Models will join them, and the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks will battle for a $500 prize. There is also a Kid’s Bike Race scheduled.
Robbie Smith has yet to win at the 3/8 mile, but he is our current points leader- if only be eight points- over “The Captain” Tony Agin who is also winless. In fact, the whole top 5 is winless as both of our winners (Matt Kurtz and Danny Martin, Jr.) have been hit-or-miss in 2013. Terry Witherspoon sits twenty-two out, but has rookie Andy Cobb breathing down his neck with just two points separating them. AJ Maddox is mired thirty-seven back after some bad luck, but it may be a hit-or-miss year if Kurtz and Martin are the ones to go by.
Tyler Clem, still happy to have a double digit age, is the Limited Late Models points leader with a runner-up finish to Tim Powers and a win last time out. Clem can’t breathe easy as Jason Pope is just eleven back and Chuck Jackson rides a further eleven down the board. Powers is fourth, fifty-eight back, and Nevin Gainey sits fifth with half of Clem’s tally as his points score. (more…)

The Mike Peters Open At Bubba Raceway Park

1009755_680770808606537_1022268117_n (1)Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL- The Bubba Army Late Models, in conjunction with the Sunoco United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series presented by Buddy’s Home Furnishings, ran a 50-lapper to honor the man who saved the 3/8 mile oval in Ocala, Florida. The Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds also ran 50 laps, the Hobby Stocks and 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks both ran for $500, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators closed out the night.
UMP Modifieds opened up the night with Bryan Bernhardt leading the opening stint from Pole. Buzzie Reutimann’s night would come to an end in turn two- just three laps in- with some mechanical troubles, and Rich Pratt also came to a halt there on lap five while riding second. Tim Gay and Justin Galbreath were fighting at the tail of the field and a spin from Gay resulted in Bernhardt receiving front-end damage. Bernhardt would retire due to the damages leaving Kyle Bronson with the lead. Bronson would put his foot down and lap all the way past fourth placed Paul Snyder. Roger Crouse finished second while Jeff Mathews finished third, just in front of Bronson. Snyder was fourth and Chuck Gustafson, Jr. rounded out the top five. (more…)

Mike Peters Open Brings The Best In The Business To Bubba Raceway Park

2012 Ivedent Lloyd Mike Peters OpenOcala, FL- The Bubba Army Late Models will race in the Third Annual Mike Peters Open at the track Peters saved in the mid-2000’s with a $5000 prize up for grabs. For the second consecutive week, it will be a United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series race. Our very own Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds will run for $3000, the Hobby Stocks and 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks will fight it out for a $500 reward, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will return as well.
Mike Peters, a U.S. Army veteran, is credited with the revival of Bubba Raceway Park in the mid-2000’s, and rightfully so. After putting a piloting career to the side, Peters worked tirelessly to save the oldest race track in Florida. In 2008, he did the unthinkable by throwing dirt on top of the asphalt that had been put down in the early 1990’s. Needless to say, the decision was the right one as the 3/8 mile track became the place to be for Friday night racing. In early 2011, Peters negotiated a deal with Bubba The Love Sponge and completed his role in the revival of the oldest race track in Florida. Bubba opened his reign on May 13, 2011- yes, a Friday the 13th!- with the First Annual Mike Peters Open which was won by Tyler Ivey of Talahassee, Florida. Last season, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. won the race that had been rescheduled for April. (more…)

The Summer Spectacular At Bubba Raceway Park!

_MG_7424Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL- The Bubba Army Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and E-Mods all put on wonderful shows that kept the fans excited throughout the night.
Bubba Christian opened up the night from pole and he led through the first few cautions for minor spins. On lap fifteen, his Uncle Grady got around him and would not look back. Plenty of restarts kept everybody close, and with five to go it looked like Tim Powers had saved his equipment for the right time, but he got shuffled to the high side and never recovered. “The Altoona Assassins” put “The Big Lake Boys” back in their spots as Grady Christian led nephew Bubba across the line in a 1-2 for the Fastech team. Powers finished third, Dennis Williams ran as hisgh as second but slipped to fourth in the final rundown, and Brian Hansford completed the top five.
The E-Mods started off with three different leaders in three laps, Shane Taylor being the first of those three. Taylor gave way to Tim Grubaugh, Jr. only for Grubaugh to let David Whitener sneak in and steal the lead. Grubaugh and Taylor put the yellow out on lap three when Grubaugh got loose and spun both drivers out of turn four. Whitener couldn’t be stopped as he won convincingly over Shane Nichols. Shane Taylor finished third, Shawn Taylor was fourth, and Daryl Larson completed the top five.
Darrell Padgett took his machine to the front for the Late Models, and he stayed there until Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. made the most of a restart to overtake Padgett on lap twelve. A few minor cautions set up a lap twenty-eight restart on which Kyle Bronson stole the lead from “The Professor.” The final caution came out with eight to go after Tyler Clem’s #14 stopped on the backstretch while he was running well inside of the top ten. Lloyd had the lead back by lap forty-four, and won the fifty lapper for his first win of 2013 on his home turf. Bronson wound up second, right in front of Jason Fitzgerald. Tyler Ivey and Padgett rounded out the top five. (more…)

Fathers And Kids Rewarded At Bubba Raceway Park

BRP LogoOcala, FL- The NeSmith Crate Late Models, Bubba Army Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and Limited Late Models all attacked the 3/8 mile for that shining moment in Coors Light Winner’s Circle.
Action opened up with the Limited Late Models, and Dale Pope took the early lead from outside pole. On lap seven, Pope and Tyler Clem saw trouble hit as Clem spun trying to grab the lead, and Pope had a tire go down soon after. Nevin Gainey would inherit the lead, but Forrest Gough stole that lead away on the restart. Clem fought his way up through the pack, and he found himself behind Gough until lap thirteen as that’s when the young driver made his move. Clem walked away to win his first career race at just ten years old, and neither him nor his father would stop smiling in Twenty-one Means Twenty-one Victory Lane. The Tony Stewart Racing Developmental Driver was quite excited to give his dad a father’s day gift, one that neither will ever forget. Gough again found himself the runner-up with Gainey, 2012 champion JO Nobles, and Dale Pope the top five. (more…)

Excellence In Education Night At Bubba Raceway Park

20130611-001139.jpgJim Rouse, Ocala, FL- As the elementary school and preschool kids reap rewards for A/B Honor Roll, the NeSmith Crate Late Models rejoin the Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Limited Late Models for some great racing. There will also be a Powder Puff race and a Fan Participation race.

The NeSmith Crate Late Models will return and try to keep Jeff Mathews out of Coors Light Winner’s Circle. Mathews is just six points out of the championship lead that Bryan Bernhardt holds after a win himself in the season opener. As those two duke it out up front, Tony Stewart Racing’s Developmental Driver- Tyler “Ten Means Ten” Clem- and “Showtime” Shan Smith sit just twenty-seven back of Bernhardt. (more…)
