Masterful Work In 5 Divisions At Bubba Raceway Park

Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

The Top Gun Sprint Cars, RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints kept at least 2 wheels on the track at all times and also put on some of the best action of 2011 while on the clay. Of course, Double Points and Points Races winding down will do that. (more…)

Jimmy Rouse -The drivers in the Top Gun Sprint Car Series, UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks, and Gladiators were all pushing the issue which resulted in some great action. Of course, when you push it to the limit, things can go crazy on the clay at Bubba Raceway Park.

In their long-awaited return at Bubba Raceway Park, the Sportsman ran a very exciting race with a familiar face in victory lane. The lap 6 caution came out for debris in turn 2 and allowed for hard-charging Davey Kinsey, in the 2010 championship car for Big Frog Motorsports, to catch the leaders. After the yellow break, Forrest Gough drove his 21 from the back in an impressive drive. Lap 9 saw contact result in Collin Wright’s 38 spinning and stalling in turn 2. The final 6 were green and JO Nobles absolutely dominated the event in his special Sportsman. Davey Kinsey took 2nd with Gough in 3rd. John Bradley ran a clean race and went home 4th and the same of 5th place Charlie Davis. Bill Adams, Adam Collins, and Collin Wright took the checkered flag within the top 10 while “Big Puddin” Billy Costello, with clutch troubles, and Chris Shea, who had a tire cut earlier in the race, took 9th and 10th, respectively, while in the garage. This week-end the Top Gun Sprint Car Series will run their 2nd of 6 features at Bubba Raceway Park in 2011. Alongside the Top Gun Sprints are the UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds, Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks for $750, Gladiators, and the return of the Sportsman class!

The Top Gun Sprint Car Series returns to Bubba Raceway Park and Danny Martin is the points leader, however he is 2nd in the Bubba Raceway Park points. Tyler Godwin, currently 14th in the Top Gun points, is the points leader, and only feature winner, for the Top Gun Sprint Cars at Bubba Raceway Park. Tim George is 50 points behind Martin in the Top Gun points and will do all he can to make them up. Mark Ruel, Jr., Terry Witherspoon, and Jimmy Ballew, Jr. round out the top 5 in the Top Gun Sprint Cars points. (more…)

Clear, All Clear

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

The RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators were all set to take to the track and they all gave it their best. Of course, points are on the line and every driver wants to be part of the battle.

The Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks had 21 show up and they all put on a fantastic battle. Chad Scranton started on the pole and pulled away at the start. On lap 6 Cory Hupp, Heat race winner, slowed in turn 2 causing a chain reaction in which Steve Osteen slowed and Phil Brown did as well. Osteen and Brown made contact and Brown hit the tire and flipped his #13. Brown was okay after the accident. Under the red flag the points leader and 2nd place driver, Tim Powers, pitted meaning he’d have to drive the 44 back through the field. The green flag fell again and the final 14 were caution free. Chad Scranton made it 3-for-3 as he’s missed a few races in 2011 while Kevin Durden had to settle for 2nd. Brett Barrett put his 109 in 3rd with a fantastic run and Tim Powers salvaged some points with 4th, his worst finish of 2011. Jeff Rodgers rounded out the top 5. Buck Woodhouse had a calm night with 6th the result, Joe Belkey was 7th, Joe Boyd a quiet 8th, Devin Walker did an impressive job for 9th, and James Erickson steadily moved up the grid for a top 10. Honor The Fallen

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

This Saturday we race in remembrance of those fallen 10 years ago on that fateful day in New York. The RaceCar Engineering Late Models return to action, as do the Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators for Double Points and a $300 payday. With tights points battles and many winners the unexpected is all that can be expected.

Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. hasn’t won a Bubba Raceway Park championship since 1993, but he currently holds a 33 point lead over Dillon Wood. Wood, a rookie this season, has impressed with his consistency. Wood will need some luck in both directions for a chance at the lead. Augie Burttram’s 58 is in 3rd but has a long chase ahead of him. Mark Whitener is still not allowed on the property, but Augie, also unallowed, had Donnie Chappell in the 58 last time out. Christian Augspurger is 4th and hopes to take another win by the end of 2011. Bo Allen is in the same boat as Burttram and Whitener so he had friend Richard Ferry drive the 71 last time. Ferry gave it a good run until some trouble came and should be back out again. Johnny Collins has had some tough luck at Bubba Raceway Park and will hope to take his 5 to the front and throw the monkey off of his back. Austin Kirkpatrick and Tyler Ivey are 7th and 8th and will need wins to keep them in the chase. Both, however, know how to win as they’ve done it in 2011. The 2009 champion JO Nobles and Shan Smith round out the top 10. (more…)

Bubba Raceway Park: Look, Up In The Sky- A Full Moon

By Jimmy Rouse Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

RaceCar Engineering Late Models highlighted the night while the Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators raced to gain points in tight battles at the front. Of course, the track owner himself got in on the action before all was said and done.

As the case has been all season when they’re around, the Hobby Stocks were up first. Down the backstraight on the 1st lap David Bange slapped the wall, Brett Barrett climbed the fence, and Mark Maresca did the barrel roll, ending the sequence. Maresca was okay, but very disappointed after the roll. After the clean-up they tried the start again, but Kevin Durden hit the wall right where the other 3 did and he paid the price with the full twirl on the rear-end before Mick Kulak made contact with nowhere to go. Both did get out of the car on their own power. The fuel leaked out of Durden’s fuel cell so the red flag was a little bit longer then usual. On the 3rd attempt for the actual start Donnie Reed spun his 07 and half a dozen cars had to take evasive action. The 4th time was the true charm and we went 4 before Joe Belkey spun the 12 around from 2nd place. The green came back out and allowed Biggest Mover Mike Tovet to make ground up from the deep. Lap 9 was unkind to the 2009 champion as Bubba Christian got loose after contact with Howard Osteen and Christian hit the tire and ended his night after learning he was going to the rear. The field completed another lap before Howard Osteen found his 88H climbing the fence and tumbling down the frontstretch. At this point the timer called it and the Hobby Stocks went G-W-C. An intense 2 lap battle was the reward, but Tim Powers led flag-to-flag for his 2nd win of 2011. Buck Woodhouse stayed in 2nd for the most of the night with a tough task- to hold off David Bange. Mike Tovet was 4th, and Tom Pratt came back from an early incident for a top 5. Cody Albright was careful all night and kept his green 27 out of trouble and took 6th. Joe Belkey and Donnie Reed both had spins in the race and finished 7th and 8th, respectively with Bud Chancey 9th and James Erickson rounding out the top 10.

With $500 on the line and Double Points on the mind the Mini Stocks came out for another battle. Roberto Morfin, Jr. was pulling away from the field but midway through the race his engine started to go sour. The only caution during the feature was on lap 9 for Jimbo Bird when his car stopped in turn 3. Coming through the field were the 2 drivers with multiple wins in 2011 and on lap 11 they went by Morfin who’s engine had expired. Green to the end and “Hammerdown” Shirlene Hammond took her 3rd win of 2011 followed by the other 3 time winner Ray Folwell, Jamie Burrows was 3rd, Brittany Yates lost some points after a 4th place finish, and Ryan Babcock rounded out the top 5. Jimbo Bird was 6th, Roberto Morfin, Jr. did get credited with 7th, Ray Ethridge 8th, Stephen Hahlbaugh 9th, and Buddy Pope scored 10th.

Larry Anderson brought out the first caution for the Late Models after a flat tire left him stranded on lap 4. The restart gave Rich Pratt a smell of the lead and he drove to it for a few laps. The lap 7 caution for Tim Zackery’s spin bunched the field up again with a lot of experience in the top 5. The green came out, but in turn 1 Bubba found himself facing the wrong direction and brought out the yellow. The field got a few more laps in and Adam Bedenbaugh got back around Pratt on lap 8. Chris Fontaine, Phillip Cobb, Tim Zackery, Kenny Monahan, and Bryan Bernhardt all spun on lap 9 and some contact left some of those involved with work to be done on their race cars. Bubba’s 14 machine had an ignition failure and lap 12 was all it would see. The green waved again, but on lap 14 “IceMan” Austin Kirkpatrick went straight into the turn 4 wall but only made slight contact. The final 11 laps were green and with 5 to go it was time for the points leader to show the field what his 21 has. Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. took a win on his birthday with Adam Bedenbaugh in 2nd. JO Nobles had the 18JO hooked up and he drove it to 3rd while Donnie Chappell drove his 58 to 4th and Dillon Wood rounded out the top 5 after starting in the rear. Brandon Cameron was 6th with Rich Pratt 7th, Christian Augspurger a very quiet 8th, and Bryan Bernhardt and Tim Zackery both drove back up for 9th and 10th, respectively. On the frontstretch after the race Bubba drew a lucky fan’s name out of the bucket and they got his winnings for the night.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks had a very rare week off and were ready to go. Jonathan Appleby took the lead before Brandon Tillander, who had let his huge pet rat out of the 73 when he spun in his Heat, brought out the caution with the right fornt tire nearly gone. After the restart David Miller, Jr. took the Pearson throwback 21 to the lead and held it until after the restart for Tim Mathieu’s stop on the clay. Cookie Cantley and Glenn Baum spun in turn 2 after Chad Scranton had taken the lead when Miller parked for the night. The next lap saw Chris Shea take the lead and his brother Brian had a tire go down and brought out the yellow. The final yellow of this sequence was for Chad Scranton who lost the left rear tire and went home on the hook. On lap 14 “The Canuck” Tim Mathieu spun and Mickey Jackson stopped and the yellow waved. Time expired and the G-W-C was used. The 2 lap battle gave the field another shot, but Chris Shea had his 76 hooked up and he took his 2nd career win at Bubba Raceway Park. Harold Erickson kept the 66 up front all night with Biggest Mover Luke Sadler in 3rd. Jason Blackmer and John Thorpe rounded out the top 5. Gordon Cade had an uneventful night in 6th, James Sullivan had a great run with 7th, Jonathan Appleby held on for 8th, Mark Trexler did a great job to get the 34 into 9th, and “Mr. Consistency” Jonathan Gillette had another 10th place finish after the problems he endured throughout the day.

The 5th and final feature was the Gladiators and they put a great race on for the fans. After 2 laps Steve Johnson and Brandon Haseleu made contact and spun right back to where they started. Reid Christensen took the lead early and gapped the field significantally. On lap 8 Richard Todd spun out of turn 4 and brought the yellow flag out again. The very next lap Frank Pelusio stopped in turn 1 and was the 3rd caution for the division. Dennis Sanderson took the car he drove in the Fan Participation race and turned it into a Gladiator. With 1 to go his night ended with some right front tire problems. Reid Christensen had some faster cars behind him, but he drove like a veteran and took that elusive 1st career win while driving Art Souther’s car. Robert Graham was 2nd, Brandon Haseleu was 3rd, Stephen Frankland put his Orlando Kia 7UK in 4th, and Jerry Taylor rounded out the top 5. Steve Johnson was 6th, Richard Todd 7th, Jaylyn Amspaugh 8th, Chuch Mathias fell through the field to 9th, and Kody Fisher rounded out the top 10.

The August Break has arrived and with those 2 weeks it will allow drivers to rebuild and refresh for One Last One For PJ Wiggins on September 3rd. For more information on the rest of the season you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or you can call the Speedway hotline.

Bubba Raceway Park Preview: The Calm Before The Storm

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

With 5 of the 6 divisions on tap the fans will get to see most of their favorite drivers 1 last time before the 2-week August break. RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks for Double Points and a $500 payday, and the Gladiators will race for points and bragging rights through the break.

Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. has held the points lead for quite some time, but hasn’t pulled away from the field. Dillon Wood is just 22 points behind Lloyd and is still searching for that 1st win. Wood held the lead early in the season and has continued to run in the top 5. With consistency at the front comes wins and Wood isn’t far away. Mark Whitener has Augie Burttram’s 58 in 3rd, but Whitener and Burttram are banned until mid-September after the argument 2 weeks ago. The new points system can keep the 58 battling for points but a new driver will have a tough hill to climb. “The Locomotive” has steamed his way to 4th but is more than 100 points back. Collins has a runner-up finish earlier but will need some wins and bad luck for the top dogs to catch back up. Still without a driver’s license because of his age, Christian Augspurger has driven the 35 to 5th. Augspurger won in the Mike Peters Era early in the season and after some bad luck has come back to 5th. Bo Allen and the 71 team were the others in the argument 2 weeks ago which means Allen would need a replacement driver to gain more points. The 71 can drive to the front, but does need a driver in the seat. Tyler Ivey was also a points leader, but some bad luck and missing the double feature night has dropped him to 7th. Ivey won the Mike Peters Open and can get his 47 in Victory Lane and needs some wins to get back in the hunt. “IceMan” Austin Kirkpatrick comes off of a trip to Victory Lane and would love to repeat. Kirkpatrick is top rookie and shows improvement every week-end. Shan Smith has driven his 99W17SS (99W for short) to 9th and has run up front and could take that win at any time. JO Nobles, the 2009 champion, has taken his 18JO to the top, both in the results and on the track, and the 18JO has taken a liking to the banking. Darrell Padgett hasn’t shown his 46P since the Powell Memorial, but did take a win early in the season.

Chad Scranton was the 1st points leader and is the only 2-time winner in the 2011 Hobby Stocks. Of course, he hasn’t started a race since and that left the points lead to Tim Powers. Powers has 1 win and 3 runner-up finishes, but even with that consistency, he’d love another win. Kevin Durden comes off of his 1st win of 2011 and wouldn’t mind becoming the 2nd 2-time winner. Buck Woodhouse hasn’t battled for the win but has put his 55W near, or in, the top 5 every week. Woodhouse, much like 4th place Howard Osteen, is still searching for the win, but it isn’t far away now. Joe Belkey took a win already, but still wants another. Belkey has a fast car and takes it to the front and has put himself in 5th because of it. Joe Boyd, Billy Carlbert, Jr., and Tommy Ausburn have kept their cars clean, for the most part, and are 6th, 7th, and 8th, respectively. They can all get to the front and take a win and move up even higher in the standings. Mark Maresca and Donnie Reed round out the top 10 and have both taken their cars to the front. Mike Tovet and Matt Shea have wins, but they didn’t count for points, but both could take another.

Jason Gamble has put all 3 of Eddie Tillander’s cars near the front, but has only put the 27 in Victory Lane in the first 3 races. Gamble has held off the fight from Vaughn Woodall and Chad Scranton, both 18 points back, but with 2 different stories. Woodall has run every race and used his strengths to power to 2nd. Scranton is listed as 3rd, with 4 more wins than Woodall, but 3 starts less. In 4th is Brian Shea, 23 points behind Gamble. Shea is still searching for his 1st win, but has taken his 19 to the front and win #1 is right around the corner. “Mr. Consistency” led the standings for a week, but hasn’t put his 64 in Victory Lane before. Gillette, along with Woodall and Shea, is in his 2nd full season and has made gains alng with them. He’s just 25 back now. Gordon Cade is 51 points behind the leaders and stil searches for win #1 on dirt. Cade holds just 8 over Chris Watson. Watson still searches for his 1st win, and could take it this week-end. Tim Mathieu, John Thorpe, and Jonathan Appleby are more than 90 points back, but are all front-runners and this division has seen 30 point swings on a night before so you can’t count anyone out.

A Double Points Night will give 5 drivers a shot at the points lead, but Ray Folwell and Brittany Yates have separted themselves from the field. Folwell holds a 12 point lead over Yates, but she has gained on him the last few races. In 3rd, 52 back, is the rookie Ryan Babcock. Babcock continues to hold strong at the front and a reward could be coming soon for the young driver. Ray Ethridge took a few wins last season but hasn’t had much luck in 2011. Ethridge is 107 points behind Folwell and is battling for wins now. Buddy Pope has an early season win, but after missing a few week-ends of action has dropped and is now mounting a comeback. Chris Zimmermann and Roberto Morfin, Jr. have misse the past 2 races and have dropped to 6th and 7th, respectively. They could take wins as they both improved much from the 1st week-end, and both are hungry. Kody Kinsey is 8th and hopes to gain points on Babcock for rookie of the year in the Mini Stocks. Kinsey has his hands full as “Hammerdown” Shirlene Hammond is 9th, just 6 behind him. “Hammerdown” will try to gain those lost points to the leaders back, but it’s easier said than done. In 10th is Charlie Staats, but he’s missed some races and has lost valuable points because of it. With $500 on the line and Bubba not not exactly thrilled about the car count, we should see a full field of Mini Stocks battling for points and glory.

The 7-time winner, Steve Cox, leads by more than 70 points over Reid Christensen. “The Dominator” will have his 1st of 14 more scheduled shots at breakng the all-time wins in a season record set by Mini Stock driver Keith Briggs in 2008. He’ll need to win half of those scheduled races to break the record. Reid Christensen will look to stop Cox, at least for a week-end, and celebrate in Victory Lane with the #30 team. Brandon Haseleu will hope to take a win this week-end and celebrate with his father in victory lane. Richard Todd and Jerry Taylor round out the top 5, but both still search for their 1st victory in their short careers. “The British Bulldog” has the smallest car and Bubba Raceway Park career with only 6 starts. Frankland has taken the 7UK to the top 5 on numerous occasions and could break out and win at any time. Steve Johnson was a main threat for the championship last season, but decided to run a limited schedule in 2011. He’s run half of the season and has his 81 in 7th and will hope to catch team-mate Cox by season’s end. Matt Kramer and Kody Fisher have put themselves in the top 10 and always battle hard no matter where they’re at on the track. Casey Feaster is 10th and after the retirement speculations has decided to bring the 20 back to Bubba Raceway Park and battle for another win. Feaster took 3 wins early, but hasn’t won in the points season. Scott Sullivan, Jonathan Green, and Sammy Dale each have a win recently and could add another.

All 5 divisions will put a show on as everyone wants to enter the break as the points leader and race winner. Gates open at 4:30 with racing scheduled for 7. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline.

Bubba Raceway Park News: Only The Last One Pays

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

The UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints Association put on a fantastic show and some points definitely got shuffled all throughout the field.

The Hobby Stocks had 20 laps and 20 cars and put on a great show. Howard Osteen took the lead from Brett Barrett from the start and Barrett spun a little while later as Cody Albright did the same on the opposite end of the track. On the first restart, Billy Carlbert, Jr. brought the yellow right back out after his tire went down. The field was able to make another lap before Ron Adams spun his 118 out of turn 4. The restart was not kind to Joe Belkey and when the yellow came out for debris he learned that he was restarting in the back. Donnie Reed brought the yellow out on lap 4 after some contact sent him spinning in turn 1. With 5 to go Billy Carlbert, Jr. brought the yellow out for a turn 4 spin. Osteen continued to lead but Kevin Durden and Tim Powers were on him waiting for a mistake. Howard Osteen took the white flag but as they exited 2 it was Kevin Durden. Durden led less then a lap but took the win as Tim Powers got around for 2nd, the dominant Osteen 3rd, Joe Belkey came from the back to finish 4th, and Joe Boyd kept his nose clean for 5th. Buck Woodhouse was just 1 spot away from  3 consecutive top 5s while James Erickson was Biggest Mover with 13 spots gained from his 20th place starting position. Mark Maresca, William Edwards, and Ron Adams stayed out of trouble and finished inside the top 10.

Mini Stock action at Bubba Raceway Park is so close that it has resulted in 8 winners in 10 races. Lap 2 saw Ray Ethridge spinning down the enbankment of the backstretch. After the restart Shirlene Hammond went by Buddy Pope and she handled it after that pass. After a yellow for the 11 car on the frontstretch it gave Pope and 3rd place Folwell a shot at “Hammerdown” Hammond. “Hammerdown” became the 2nd multiple feature winner of the season as Buddy Pope held Ray Folwell, the Biggest Mover, off for 2nd. Brittany Yates took 4th which was enough to earn her some points in the championship battle as Jamie Burrows made it a 3-4-5 for John Yates’ cars. Ray Ethridge beat Ryan Babcock out for 6th. The 11 tok 8th after his wreck while Kody Kinsey and Jeremy James would DNF and take 9th and 10th, respectively.

The UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds had Double Points and $1500 on the line and they made it interesting. From the start it was an uphill battle for Buzzie Reutimann and the 00 group as the right rear went down and Paul Sizemore chose the lesser of 2 evils and destroyed the right side of his car as he hit the rear of Buzzie’s 00. Both continued for a few laps or more. Steve Whitener pulled off from 3rd at this point and left a hole for 5th to take a shot at the lead. The restart resulted in Dave Barber spinning down the enbankment, Devin Dixon breaking the right front suspension, and Larry Mott spinning. After a lap was scored Kent Corbin spun and Sizemore, Reutimann, Michael Flick, and Rich Maguire all made evasive action and missed the OK car. Meanwhile Robert Dixon was charging from 27th position. Jeff Mathews brought the 33 out, but ran the entire race 1 lap down. Lap 2 saw Jamie Carter and Larry Mott ending Carter’s night on the frontstretch after contact. The restart gave Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. the lead from Rich Pratt and he started to pull away until the lap 8 caution came out after Larry Mott blew a left rear tire and knocked Pratt into the wall. No hard feelings between the drivers as they mutually agreed on what caused contact and Pratt retook 3rd. On the restart Maguire spun and tried to reverse the flow of traffic, but brought out the yellow instead. Laps 15-17 were unkind to Hammond Motorsports as Bronson hit the wall on 15 then after the restart Wayne Hammond got loose and the 40H went into the wall, bounced and hit the top of the fence. Hammond didn’t roll the car and was okay after the accident, as was innocent bystander Brian Morgan who was having an incredible run in the top 5. The stands were evacuated and racing got under way soon after. The race was cut by 5 as the timer ran out on lap 17, but it was too late for Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. as he pulled off as the field took the 2 to go sign. Started pole, clobbered the wall, and took home the trophy it was Rich Pratt in Victory Lane for his first dirt Modified win. Garret Stewart again smelled victory, but waits for the taste. Jim Passino and Dale Murray were 3rd and 4th, respectively, as they kept their noses clean all night. Reutimann drove back to 5th as Ronnice Chance took 6th, Scott Mooers was 7th in his first season in a Modified, Robert Dixon gained 19 spots for 8th, Michael Flick was 9th, and Donnie “Henry” Hall rounded out the top 10.

The first 2 attempts at a start saw Brian Penrose and Allen Craig flip their Florida Mini Sprints, but 3rd time was the charm and they went 2 lap before the 30 of John Crowder stopped for the night. On lap 6 Justin Kolves took the lead from Luke Fidler and began to pull away, but points leader and winner of the FMSA’s last event, Chris Pacetti, was driving through the field. Luke Fidler lost the right rear and brought the yellow out for a 1 lap dash with team-mates Kolves and Pacetti 1-2. They almost didn’t get the 1-2, but Kolves held it on all 4 and Pacetti drove on top of Kolves front end and won by a wheel and some sheet metal. One team-mate was happy and the other was wondering what he has to do to win again. David Pleaugh was 3rd, Steve Crabtree 4th, Dirk Miller 5th, Pete Smith 6th, Eddie Moss, Jr. in 7th, David Hall was 8th, Dylan Colding, the young driver of the 23D was 9th, and Luke Fidler was able to take home points for 10th.

Gladiators battled and it was a big stage out on the clay. Brandon Haseleu, 3rd in points lost his IronMan streak as the car wouldn’t fire as a system in the engine thought Haseleu was trying to steal the car. Frank Pelusio, Stephen Frankland, Robert Graham, Reid Christensen, and JT Holly were involved in the lap 1 turn 1 incident, but only Holly and Graham were done for the night. Matt Kramer and Wade Lear also pulled off at this point. On the restart, “British Bulldog” found himself facing the wrong way, but rejoined the field after he fired it up and the yellow came out. The final 14 were green, and with 11 to go “The Dominator” Steve Cox took the lead, but didn’t pull away as usual. The yellow flags didn’t fly and the S&S Boys, Steve Cox, the Biggest Mover, and Steve Johnson, took the 1-2 as Frank Pelusio was 3rd. Tommy Ausburn, Jr. avoided the wrecks and took a well deserved 4th as “British Bulldog” came back for 5th. Reid Christensen and Ken McCloud were laps down, but still finished 6th and 7th, respectively. Art Souther was 8th, Robert Graham in 9th, and JT Holly in 10th.

RaceCar Engineering Late Models return, as do the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks. Also, the Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks for Double Points and a $500 payday, and the Gladiators race. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline.

Bubba Raceway Park Preview: Fire Em Up

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

This week-end at Bubba Raceway Park it’s the UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds for Double Points and $1500, return of the Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Gladiators, and the Florida Mini Sprints Association in their 4th of 9 races at Bubba Raceway Park.

The UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds have a Mathews Motorsports 1-2 at the front. Jeff Mathews is the points leader by 3 over team-mate Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. Mathews and Lloyd have vast experience as they are both champions at Bubba Raceway Park meaning it could be a battle for the ages between them. Dave Barber is only 31 points behind Mathews and Barber will strive to make the points up quickly and will also be looking for that win. Down 37 to the leader is Kyle Bronson. Bronson was the runner-up last season and is so far the only 2-time winner in the division. Jason Davis is 43 back but has been steadily getting that Snow Bros. Modified up to the front and he could take that win anytime. Henry Hall has been very consistent and is sitting 6th and could take his Modified right up to the front. Garret Stewart has his 67 in 7th spot and continues to get closer to his 1st win. Steve Whitener and Jim Passino are tied for 8th with 1-time-winner Whitener taking the tie-breaker as of now. Passino has run into some tough luck recently but has put his 34 up front numerous times and is a threat every week-end. Ronnie Chance is 10th and has consistently run in the top 10. Chance could break through and he would certainly jump at the chance. Devin Dixon is the last winner in the division and, of course, PJ Wiggins took a win in his final start at Bubba Raceway Park.

A 44 car leads by 44 points in the Hobby Stock division after 3 points races. Tim Powers leads Kevin Durden and both have won, but Durden hasn’t won at Bubba Raceway Park since last season. Buck Woodhouse has his 55W 56 points behind Powers. Woodhouse has 2 top 5s in the past 2 races and would like to move up the order into victory lane. Howard Osteen is the 4th place driver, but is 80 points behind Powers. Osteen is close to a win and it could come at any time. In 5th, 82 points behind Powers, is 2009 champion Bubba Christian. Christian has used the strength of 2 top 10s to move up the charts. Christian will have a hand-full as Billy Carlbert, Jr. is only 1 points behind him. Carlbert has a runner-up finish but won’t be staisfied until he goes 1 better. Joe Belkey has a race win and another Joe behind him in Joe Boyd. Belkey and Boyd had a great battle last time out and they’ll both look for a win. Tommy Ausburn and Devin Walker are 9th and 10th, respectively, and have done a fantastic job so far. They’ll all be looking for wins along with 2-time winner Chad Scranton, Matt Shea, and Mike Tovet.

Yates Racing currently leads the Mini Stocks but the field is rapidly approaching. Ray Folwell is the points leader over his team-mate Brittany Yates. Folwell won the first 2 and the 4th race while Yates won the 3rd, but neither has returned to the victory circle. Both have been close every week but haven’t shown the dominance as of earlier. Ryan Babcock, the 16-year-old rookie, is in 3rd and has shown consitency and maturity to stay there from the start. His career best 3rd came the first 1st week of the season and he continues to hold steady at the front. Ray Ethridge is in 4th place and showed last year that he can take home a win. Ethridge has a lot of points to make up but knows that he can still win the championship. Chris Zimmermann is 5th and has shown much improvement the past few races. Zimmermann will have to hold off Roberto Morfin, Jr. who is already a race winner in 2011.

“TacoSon” steadily improves every week and is a threat to become the 2nd multiple-time winner. Buddy Pope is the 7th place driver and has a non-points win already, but missed a couple of races and has cost him points. Kody Kinsey, along with Babcock, is a rookie and has his 11 in the 8th position. Kinsey has used the advice from his father to get his 11 to the front. Charlie Staats and Stephen Hahlbaugh have both missed 3 races and they are 9th and 10th, respectively, in the standings. Staats has a win as well as 2008 champion Keith Briggs, Shirlene Hammond, and Tim Zackery but his was a non-points race.

The Gladiators call him “The Dominator” and for good reason. Steve Cox is the points leader and has his S&S P38 up front with 5 wins, including a streak of 4-straight. “The Dominator” has a comfortable points lead over Reid Christensen and Brandon Haseleu. Both Young Guns are looking for their 1st career wins. In 4th is Richard Todd. Todd continues to improve and is knocking on the door of career win #1. Jerry Taylor is the points driver for M&M/Shade Tree Racing and has raced the 10, 13, 31, and 57 cars to 5th in points. Taylor has a few runner-up finishes in his career and won’t give up until he gets that win. Kody Fisher has his 83 in the 6th position and has a season best finish of 4th. Fisher will have a good battle with 7th place Stephen Frankland. “The British Bulldog” has a 3rd place finish to his credit but, just as everyone but Cox, is still searching for that 1st win at Bubba Raceway Park. In 8th is the driver with the most Gladiator wins in the past 2 seasons and also the most nicknames. Casey Feaster is 8th and also has 3 consecutive non-points wins this season. The 9th place driver, Matt Kramer, has a top 5 and will continue to improve and hopes to take that 1st win home before too long. Cox’s team-mate Steve Johnson is 10th and will do his best to get his celebration in victory lane. Jonathan Green, Scott Sullivan, and Sammy Dale all have 1 win each and could take a 2nd any time soon.

The Florida Mini Sprints Association has 3 different winners in David Pleaugh, Gavin Thomas, and Jesse Teed. All will look for repeats this week-end, but there’s also a championship to look at. Chris Pacetti won the last feature for the division and also holds the points lead. Anything can happen with this highly competitive class in which 12 drivers have a top 5 in 3 features at Bubba Raceway Park.

Gates open at 4:30 with racing scheduled for 7. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline!

Three New Winners In Four Divisions At Bubba Raceway Park

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

With the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators all running there was much to be gained and lost on the clay. Of course, racing and pitting wasn’t all that would go on out on the clay.

The Mini Stocks came in knowing that the conditions were right for a new winner as they had 2 weeks to work and rest. Lap 2 saw Shirlene Hammond, the previous race winner, take the lead from David Pope. However, 3 laps later, while attempting to lap the slower Kody Kinsey, Hammond and Kinsey made contact and the 2 went up to the wall, ending both drivers nights and repeat dreams. David Pope would be handed the lead 1/3 through. The restart gave “Hot Shot” Keith Briggs a chance to take the lead and he shot the 19T to the lead. The half-way point arrived and Sherman Pope and Dean Kinsey had a spin out of turn 4. The final 7 laps were green and “Hot Shot” put the Xtreme Racing 19T in Victory Lane. Brittany Yates took some points with 2nd, 2010 champion Nick Kerr took the final podium position, David Pope put the 81 in 4th, and Ray Folwell rounded out the top 5.

A $500 to win race was enough to put 28 Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks on track and that led to some great racing. Jonathan Appleby passed Brian Shea for the lead on lap 1, but the 2 made contact on the next lap and Shea’s spin was deemed “avoidable contact” meaning Appleby was put to the back and Shea would hold the lead. Brian Shea and 2nd place Brian Mullins both jumped the restart once, and when they started the 3rd time it was Mullins in the lead. Lap 3 saw Vaughn Woodall stop in turn 2, ending his night and costing him some valuable points. Lap 4 saw Chad Scranton pass his team-mate for the lead that he wouldn’t let slip away from him. Lap 5 and the yellow was out again for debris while Jason Gamble took the 27 to pit lane. The lap 6 yellow came out for the stopped car of Brian Mullins due to a tire. Meanwhile Appleby was slashing through the field. Gamble lost his right rear in turn 4 on lap 10 meaning that the top 3 in points would finish outside the top 20. Scranton was out front holding off every threat from Luke Sadler and Brian Shea when the yellow came out on lap 18 for Tony Campbell and his lost tire. It was a battle of the “S” with Scranton taking his 4th win in 5 starts while Luke Sadler had to settle for runner-up. In the 3rd spot was Brian Shea who started up front this week-end, Ryan Lasik battled and kept the car clean for a 4th place run, and Jonathan Appleby did ‘Eat Good In The Neighborhood’ as he came from the back for 5th.

RaceCar Engineering Late Model excitement got under way on lap 4 when Andy Cobb and VP Pipken had a spin in turn 2. Lap 6 saw Cobb drop to the turn 1 apron and Jamie Slatton stopped in turn 3 bringing out the yellow flag. Jack Nosbisch took the lead from Kyle Van Sickle on lap 7 and started to pull away when Christian Augspurger stopped his 35 on the backstretch. During this period Mark Whitener and Kyle Van Sickle angered each other and on the restart it was Whitener washing up the frontstretch and Kyle Van Sickle ended up between a wall and a Late Model and as the cars bounced down it took Bo Allen and Donnie Chappell to the infield. Van Sickle and Chappell went straight to the pit area, but Whitener and Allen waited. A skirmish broke out in turn 1 and the word was that a Bo Allen crewman started the fight and the Big Frog Motorsports team of Whitener was involved as well. Both drivers were immediately disqualified for conduct, whether by driver or crew members. However, the best was yet to come and 3 laps after the restart it was “Iceman” Austin Kirkpatrick in the lead. Iceman had to hold Nosbisch off once more after John Koller’s stop in turn 1 on lap 15. Iceman was up to the task and held ’em off for the win with Jack Nosbisch the runner up. Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. took 3rd after some minor trouble with race control, JO Nobles ran a masterful race for 4th, and Dillon Wood ran 5th for some good points.

Sammy Dale took the lead from “British Bulldog” Stephen Frankland at the beginning and Dale never looked back. It was lap 10 and a debris caution was out. The very next lap saw Ken McCloud stop on the turn 4 apron bringing out another yellow. The restart saw Ray Hunter and Harold Lewis make contact and both were to the back. Lewis, however, exited the course. It was a sprint and Sammy Dale took the trophy home with Reid Christensen 2nd, “The Dominator” Steve Cox 3rd, Steve Johnson put the S&S 81 in 4th, and Casey “Insert Your Nickname” Feaster rounded out the top 5.

Next week-end is UMP Open-Wheel Modified action for $1500 and Double Points, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints Association racing. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline.
