All For $1000

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media

Joining the Top Gun Sprint Cars were the Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators and they were all looking for the $1000 payday!

First up were the Hobby Stocks for 16 laps. DJ Nobles led lap 1 after Mick Kulak had troubles from pole. Lap 2 was Mike Stalnaker’s lap to shine. And, lap 3 saw “Ragin” Rodney Wright steal the lead. Josh Hughes spun the Don Woosley 81 out of turn 4 on lap 4 to slow the feature for the first time. (more…)

Journey To The Center Of The Storm

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media

The storm of racing at Bubba Raceway Park continues after a break for rain and the Top Gun Sprint Cars are back! Joining them and gunning for $1000 are the Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. And Bubba’s Pit Stop opens at 1 PM on Saturday so arrive early for a Happy Hour for the thirsty!

At the center of the Sprint Car storm are points leaders Danny Martin, Jr. (1-time winner) and Mark Ruel, Jr. Martin has looked strong in his Crawford Tire #82 while Ruel has been the same but hasn’t put his Xpress Graphixx #83 in Coors Light Winner’s Circle yet. Just 2 points behind is the 2-time winner Matt Kurtz. Those 3 are within 2 points while 5th is only 34 out. “Flyin” Ryan Partin and Andrew Griffin round out a very strong top 5. (more…)

The First Annual Florida State Late Model Championship

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media

Joining the RaceCar Engineering Late Models were the Scorpion Racing Products, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, and a Spectator Race!

First up were the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds and what a 20-lapper it was! A 7 lap green flag run dominated by Kyle Bronson was stopped when the lapped car of Larry Mott spun in turn 4. A 9 lap run ended when Buzzie Reutimann slowed and was spun by Jason Davis by no fault of his own. The final 4 were green as Bronson held Devin Dixon off for the victory. Jeff Mathews barely held Rich Pratt off for 3rd and Dalton Lanich finished 5th on his birthday. (more…)

The Powell Memorial Night One

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media

The Powell Memorial. RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators battled for the glory unmatched anywhere else.

Up first were the Limited Late Models. Forrest Gough led early. On lap 6 Eddie Gainey made the move for the lead and was successful just as David Showers found the wall. Down the backstretch on the restart Adam Higginbotham cut a tire and made contact with JO Nobles which caused a collision that involved Howard O’Steen, Shane Koperda, and Ricky Land as well. (more…)

The Seventeenth Annual Powell Memorial Returns To Bubba Raceway Park

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media

This year the Powell Memorial will be a 2 day event. Of course, the most prestigious race is more than just a race- it is a time to reflect on just how blessed we are. June 7, 1995 was a regular day. It was, until James Powell received the news many couldn’t bare- the plane carrying Buddy and Elizabeth Powell, his parents; Loveda McNair, his aunt; CJ Powell, his uncle; and his twin daughters, Ashley and Nicole, had crashed. There were no survivors. The next year Paul Pitry, owner of what is now Bubba Raceway Park, honored those lost with a race we know as the Powell Memorial. Jeff Purvis won that first Powell Memorial. James Powell himself, former owner of the track, actually raced in the event for many years finishing 2nd 5 times. The race has seen dominant drivers such as Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. and Patrick Williams win while upsets have occurred, most recently Philipp Cobb in 2010. (more…)

Double Trouble

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media

The RaceCar Engineering Late Models ended the first of 3 Points Sessions as did the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models and 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks. The Rent-N-Roll Gladiators also battled but with no points on the line.

Limited Late Models started it off with a fantastic 16-lapper. On the start, however, Forrest Gough crossed it up and made contact with Kevin Mills. Both continued on but Tony Ponder, Ricky Land, and the McGillivrays found themselves tangled in turn 2. David Showers, Jr. led early but Adam Higginbotham took it at the line on lap 2. Just 3 laps later JO Nobles stole it seconds before Howard Osteen’s #80 broke and brought the yellow back out. On lap 12 as the leaders attempted to maneuver around the lapped car of Cheyanne Cox, Eddie Gainey made contact with her and as they spun David Showers had to take evasive action. (more…)

Warm-Ups And Doubles

By- Jim Rouse, Bubba Raceway Park Media

Bubba Raceway Park has just 1 more week left in the first 3-month points period of the 2012 season and also just 1 more race before the biggest race of the season- the Powell Memorial. The RaceCar Engineering Late Models will battle as will the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. Of course, the hottest race, or races, will be the 2, yes, 2 features for the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks.

Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. may as well be the Dean because he nearly owns Bubba Raceway Park. He’s won from the front, mid-pack, and the final spot. Lloyd owns a 58 point lead over Mark Whitener meaning he could use the 25-lapper as a test and still keep the points lead with a start in the feature. Whitener is still seeking that elusive Powell Memorial victory so that begs the question- will the Big Frog Motorsports crew be testing for the June Spectacle or are points the way to go? (more…)

Six Grand Reasons

By- Jim Rouse

Top Gun Sprint Cars, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators battled for points and cash on Night Of A Thousands.

Hobby Stocks started the night off with a 20 lap battle. Devin Walker spun to avoid Trevor Gamble’s rare spin as Howard O’Steen, Mark Maresca, and Don Woosley led the field. Just 1 lap later Kyle Morse got loose and after contact with Ronnie Whitley he smacked the wall ending driver #82’s night. As the laps wound down it looked as if O’Steen had it but with just 4 to go the 88H broke ending the strongest run of his career. Rodney Wright took the win as Darran Jackson, Chad Scranton, Mike Stalnaker, and Mark Maresca completed a solid top 5.

The Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds were 2nd and a good show it was. Larry Mott spun on lap 1 from 2nd and took Scott Mooers, Kyle Bronson, Chuck Gustafson, Jr., Ronald Soltis, Mark Whitener, Jim Passino, Jeff Mathews, and Garret Stewart with him. The damages for Stewart, and Gustafson were terminal. However, Dalton Lanich was leading with Passino and Tyler Clem giving chase. Lanich started to pull away but slowly making ground was Buzzie Reutimann. (more…)

Super Six For One Thousand

Jim Rouse, Bubba Raceway Park Media

Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds return as do the Top Gun Sprint Cars, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. Six of the toughest divisions at Bubba Raceway Park will attack the track and run for more of those valuable points and the $1000 prize on Night Of A Thousands!

Kyle Bronson’s winning streak went up in a cloud of smoke. A pretty big cloud too. Bronson holds a 15 point lead over Rich Pratt and hopes to build upon it while Pratt looks to steal some momentum from his strong run in the Late Model and maybe get that first win of 2012 and end the Hammond Motorsports reign. (more…)
