First Annual Bubba Army Wiener Nationals Runs In

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media, Ocala, FL – As Month 6 of the 9 month season at Bubba Raceway Park comes to a close we watch some points battles tighten up as others become a 1-or-2-man battle. The RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will end the Second Third while the dogs will take to the track! All proceeds of the Bubba Army Wiener Nationals will go to Angels have Whiskers!

Florida State Late Model Champion “The Magic Man” Mark Whitener leads the RaceCar Engineering Late Models standings by 91 points over Christian Augspurger who comes off of that big win last Friday night. Bo Allen holds onto 3rd and still sits within that beautiful 100-mark. Richard Ferry, along with Whitener and Augspurger, has a win this season but some rough luck has taken him quite a few points off of championship contention. Bryan Bernhardt has been fast all season and has shown constant improvement and a win may be just around the corner. In fact, Jeff Mathews, Jason Fitzgerald, and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. (6th-8th in the standings) have each visited Coors Light Winner’s Circle and 10th and 11th place Tyler Ivey and Keith Nosbisch, respectively, have as well! The division is more wide-open then it has been in a long time and we could realistically see a 10-winner season. (more…)

Conclusion Of The Florida State Thunder Stock Championship

Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL (8-18-12) – As the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks completed their Florida State Championship the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars, and the Hobby Stocks put on a show not soon to be forgotten.

Hobby Stocks went first and outside pole sitter Mark Maresca took a wild ride very similar to the one he took nearly a year ago only this time it was 1 roll rather than a bunch. Joe Boyd would lead early on before a lap 3 caution for Scott Haas. Haas would allow Tim Powers and Tim Gay to close in on race leader Boyd. Under caution Hunter Gustafson, who was having a strong run, was parked for not having the Raceceiver all drivers are required to have. Just 2 laps later Richard Calmes, Jr. and Mick Kulak made contact that would destroy body work on both cars. The restart saw Tim Gay and Rodney Wright, who were fighting for 3rd, make contact- Wright went around and Gay went to the tail. (more…)

The Florida State Thunder Stock Championship

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media  8-17-12 (Ocala, FL) – The Florida State Thunder Stock Championship started with a bang as the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks joined the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks for a wonderful night of racing.

First up were the Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks and they went before the intermission. A 1 caution race happened as Reid Christensen spun in turn 2 on lap 2. That left Buddy Pope to dominate as he won by half-a-lap over Travis Staats and Charlie Staats. Christensen would finish 4th and Fisher would round out the top 5.

Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models put on a 15-lapper with Phillip Cobb the early leader. On lap 6 Billy Holmes’ #7 put oil down (see NASCAR Watkins Glen race) and the leaders slipped through it- Officials gave David Showers, Jr., the only man to lose position due to the oil, his spot back as the #118 literally did a 360 in the oil. Florida State Thunder Stock Championship Roars In

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media – Ocala, FL -This week-end is the Florida State Thunder Stock Championship and the 2-day event will be a breath-taker. The Friday night event will see the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks go all out as they fight for that title; in fact, they will time trial for the first time in history. Alongside them will be the RaceCar Engineering Late Models for $3000, the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, and the Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks.

Brian “Hothead” Mullins leads the chase in the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks and after that big win a couple of weeks ago he’d like to add that ring. “Flash” Jonathan Appleby and Jason Gamble are chasing but have some points to make up on the leader. If any 2 can do it, however, it’s these 2. Bubba Durbin sits 4th and has been quick all season- he could upset the event and take home the gold and few would be shocked. In 5th is Brandon Elwood as he has built a nice cushion over 6th place John Thorpe. Any one can win as drivers such as Chad Scranton, Shane Nichols, Eddie Kilbury, Jr., Mark Trexler, Grady Christian, Mike Tovet, and Robert Ray are part of the group of 10 feature winners in 2012. The Toughest Task

By Jim Rouse, BRP Media – Ocala, FL (8-11-12) – This week the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds joined the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators for an all-out tussle as they prepared for next week’s Florida State Thunder Stock Championship.

First up were the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models. David Showers, Jr. jumped to the lead from pole with his father (David Showers), JO Nobles, and Forrest Gough in tow. A few minor cautions happened early which kept the likes of Shane Koperda, Denica Hetznecker, and Caleb and Christian McGillivray in the mix. On lap 8 Scotty Williams, who had shot up from 6th to 3rd moments before, broke the 27 and brought a caution out. That yellow flag allowed anyone who wanted to get tear-offs do so without penalty- only “Rowdy” Denica Hetznecker would take the offer. On the restart it became clear that father would allow his boy to take the lead uncontested so as to put Showers Chassis in Coors Light Victory Lane. (more…)

Keep On Keeping On

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media

8-6-12 (Ocala, FL) – The Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators take to the clay for an all-out battle!

Kyle “The Killer” Bronson has dominated 2012 as he attempts to be the first champion of this division not named Jeff “4-Time” Mathews (who is actually up to 4th). Bronson is holding off more than “4-Time” as Rich Pratt is in 2nd! Pratt, part of a group worthy of the ‘Hard Luck’ Award, hasn’t won in nearly a year and it’s nearing Pratt-Time. In 3rd is Dalton Lanich who comes off a big win elsewhere a few weeks ago. Mathews just overtook Jim Passino who still holds 5th. He won’t be there long as he is on a sabbatical now meaning Tyler Clem will take 5th by merely starting the feature event. (more…)

August Assault

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (8-4-12) Ocala, FL – The Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators fought on the 1/3-mile clay oval with everything on the line while RaceCar Engineering Late Models put on a spectacular non-points event.

Hobby Stocks were first up and pole sitter Mike Stalnaker held on to lead lap 1. “The Master” had company as Eric Moon and “Ragin” Rodney Wright were eating up his rear bumper. Chris Doane would spin for the 2nd time on lap 4 with Stalnaker leading Wright and Moon. Rodney Wright led lap 7 and would complete the pass in turn 1 as Tim Gay took a shot at “The Master.” On lap 9 Rebecca Paugh found the backstretch wall right in front of the leaders which would set up a restart of the cars numbered 99-90-9-19 (Wright, Gay, Stalnaker, and Brian Shea). The Summer Stretch

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (7-30-12) Ocala, FL – Final decisions have been made and this Saturday will be a repeat from last week. That means that the Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will go for the points while the RaceCar Engineering Late Models will battle all for glory.

The Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars will race with a great story on their season. “The Hammer” Danny Martin, Jr.  has some work to do but the #82 is always fast. In 3rd, however, the 2010 champion, “Flyin” Ryan Partin, is helping the youngsters out. Partin knows how to win a title; 2nd place Matt Kurtz and leader Mark Ruel, Jr. must learn and we hope it’s not the hard way. Ruel and Partin aren’t the best of friends and these final 4 months will be spectacular as 2 young drivers go for a title and 1 former champion watches and will strike at the first mistake. (more…)

An Odd Dilemma at BRP

An odd dilemma was faced at Bubba Raceway Park as the power grid that included Bubba Raceway Park was knocked out meaning the only lights were those of the enclosed trailers, personal street cars, and cellphones. This all happened moments before the first feature was to take place.

Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will all race next Saturday. RaceCar Engineering Late Models will make their race up, albeit for no championship points. The Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds race will stay while the Demolition Derby, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks will all be removed from that race date.
