No Roof? No Problems!

Jim Rouse, 10-27-12 (Ocala, FL) – The Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars took the wings off and the RaceCar Engineering Late Models went topless! Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators joined them for an amazing night. Of course, the Trick-Or-Treating and Costume Contest at Intermission was the highlight for many people!

First up were Hobby Stocks and under the pace laps Bubba put it to Trevor Gamble and Rodney Wright: “Come from the back (and win) and I’ll give you an extra $100.” Both accepted the offer. Those 2 starting outside the top 15 allowed pole sitter Devin Walker to lead lap 1. On lap 9 Glenn Baum lost a wheel which would set the restart up like this- Walker, Wright, Gamble. Walt Kahrs set up a G-W-C after he spun out of turn 4 but the order was still the same. Devin Walker held on to play championship spoiler with Gamble bettering his rival Wright. Marty Smith finished 4th with Mark Maresca rounding out the top 5. JD with City Electric Supply put up $200 for the winner and Bubba split the $100 and gave Wright and Gamble each $50 for putting on a wonderful show.

Bo Allen would lead from pole as the RaceCar Engineering Late Models went lids off before Mark Whitener passed him on lap 6. The field slowed on lap 10 when Austin Dowling spun out of turn 4; Whitener, Allen, and Christian Augspurger made up the top-3. Whitener would not relinquish that lead as he took home a big win over Christian Augspurger in a 1-2 for Barry Wright chassis. Bo Allen and JO Nobles would finish 3rd and 4th, respectively, with the Bubba Army Performance Engines, and Bryan Bernhardt rounded out the top 5. (more…)

Halloween Spooktacular

By- Jim Rouse (10-22-12) Ocala, FL – The RaceCar Engineering Late Models will take the tops off this week and the Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars will go wingless while the Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators make it a wild night with 5 spooktacular divisions. There will also be a Trick-Or-Treat on the frontstretch and a costume contest!

Matt Kurtz is putting up numbers not seen since Danny Martin, Jr. all of 1 year ago. Kurtz almost seems unstoppable at this moment but he has Martin, Mark Ruel, Jr., AJ Maddox, Stephen Darvalics, and Tyler Godwin chasing him down. In fact, Kurtz has 5 wins while those 5 have just 1 each (at Bubba Raceway Park)! Do not, however, count out drivers like former champion Ryan Partin, legendary Robbie Smith, and consistent Tony Agin. It’s up to the field to stop the Jacksonville Jet from flying away. Oh, and, he hasn’t lost yet when the wings are off in 2012.

Mark Whitener is looking for his 2nd title in 3 years at Bubba Raceway Park and he has a solid lead. Bo Allen and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. are chasing him and could spoil the party quickly. Richard Ferry, Christian Augspurger, and Jason Fitzgerald have put up some big points and they’ve won big races in a division that seems more wide open than usual. Tyler Ivey, Jeff Mathews, and Keith Nosbisch have also visited Coor’s Light Winner’s Circle in 2012 as they show that for the first time in a few years the division is anyone’s to win in. (more…)

Under Pressure

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (10-20-12) Ocala, FL – As October begins to close the season does as well. The Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks took to the 1/3 mile and put on some of the best shows of 2012 at Bubba Raceway Park.

First up were the Hobby Stocks who saw championship contender Trevor Gamble shoot from pole to the early lead. On lap 11 caution would fly for the first time when Don Woosley grabbed too much of the berm and spun his #81 in turn 2 right in front of the leader. Just 1 caution slowed the feature event that Trevor Gamble seemed to win with ease and it helped him extend his points lead. Rodney Wright was 2nd all night but he lost points in a critical race. Hunter Gustafson took a career night to the end and finished 3rd with Mike Stalnaker and Joe Boyd the end of a solid top 5.

Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models would go out next but on lap 1 JO Nobles triggered a multi-car crash including Tyler Clem, Steve Shead, and the McGillivray boys. Christian McGillivray would be the only retirement. David Showers would take the early lead from his pole position but would lose it on a lap 4 restart as Forrest Gough shot to the lead. Gough would hit the wall with 6 to go as he tried to pass lapped traffic. (more…)

Back To Normal?

Jim Rouse (10-15-12) Ocala, FL – Bubba Raceway Park has just 5 weeks of racing left and this one will showcase our Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds as well as the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks.

In the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds it seems as if Jeff Mathews has lost his reign but he has not quit yet as he took max points over Kyle Bronson last time out. Bronson has a massive lead and Mathews will have to win out to have a chance. Dalton Lanich isn’t in much better position but he can set up a strong 2013 with a few wins at the end of the season in his Chris Williams machine. Rich Pratt and Garret Stewart have contended for wins in 2012 but haven’t quite broken into Coors Light Winner’s Circle yet; their time will come and when it does it’ll get quite exciting for all.

JO Nobles and David Showers have separated themselves from the competition in the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models but Nobles looks to have the title wrapped up soon. Forrest Gough has had an interesting season and looks to complete it with a trip to Coors Light Winner’s Circle while he tries to hold off young Christian and Caleb McGillivray who are also seeking their first wins of 2012. Others such as Kevin Mills and David Showers, Jr. have broken into Victory Lane but 2012 has certainly been all about the #18. (more…)

By- Jim Rouse (10-13-12) Ocala, FL – The Florida State Sprint Car Championship wrapped up tonight with a bang while the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, and 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks all made it a complete night on Fan Appreciation Weekend! All races had 5 laps added to them for the night (Sprints went 10 extra from a normal race).

First up were our Hobby Stocks who would ultimately go 25 laps. The race started off with a wild ride for William Gillam when he barrel-rolled the #13 on the backstretch. Gillam was okay but his night was over. Trevor Gamble would lead from 4th while title fighter Rodney Wright would have to fight from 10th. Trey Isgette, III would bring a caution out with 10-to-go and 4 laps later Kyle Maynard would do the same. Up front it was Gamble, Wright, and Mike Stalnaker. Trevor Gamble, though the car started going away, held off Rodney Wright for a massive win in a tight title fight. Mike Stalnaker and Hunter Gustafson solidified their statuses as top 5 drivers and Steve Branton took the #2S to 5th. (more…)

BRP Fall Brawl Night 1

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (10-12-12) Ocala, FL – The Fall Brawl highlights the Florida State Sprint Car Championship for our Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars while the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators put on a wonderful show as well on Fan Appreciation Weekend!

First up were our very own Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks and a great show was in store. Buddy Pope dominated the heat race and was dominant in the first half of the feature. Travis Staats began to catch Pope with 4-to-go in the 10-lapper but couldn’t do anything with him. Reid Christensen would stay 3rd the entire night but he showed real progress as his rookie campaign in the Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks class. Buddy Pope was excited with his run as he gained some big points with his win. Travis Staats was a solid 2nd and Christensen finished 3rd on a strong caution-free night! (more…)

Florida State Sprint Car Championship Highlights The Florida State Sprint Car Championship

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (10-8-12)  Ocala, FL – This week we host our last of the 4 majors with our Florida State Sprint Car Championship races. Joining them this Friday will be our Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks (to make-up last weekend), Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. It’s also Fan Appreciation Night this Friday as we have Raceway Brews (Coors Banquet and Pabst), fountain sodas, hotdogs, and popcorn for just a dollar! Don’t miss this great action and Fan Appreciation!

Our Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Car drivers will fight for a beautiful ring and some valuable championship points that leader Matt Kurtz would like to have. Kurtz has been dominant and made 2 beautiful last lap passes on some of the best in the business. Chasing driver #92 down is “Flyin” Ryan Partin. Partin, the 2010 champion, may have to go all-out-RoGro to take a win as he has a heavy downforce wing compared to the rest of the pack. AJ Maddox took a win earlier in 2012 and could very easily visit Coors Light Winner’s Circle again if he could buy a break. Tony Agin is in the top 5 as he methodically works his way into relevance every race. (more…)

Give It All You’ve Got

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (10-1-12) Ocala, FL – As October starts we start the final run with our Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. Points mean everything but there’s plenty of glory to go around with them.

Points have been hard to come by in the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds as Kyle Bronson does not lose. With 11 wins in the 16 races so far in 2012 he has a massive lead over Dalton Lanich and Jeff Mathews. Mathews took a win earlier but Lanich is still chasing that big win at the oldest track in Florida. Other competitors such as 71-year old Buzzie Reutimann, Wayne Hammond, NASCAR driver David Reutimann, and Mark Whitener have also won in 2012. As the season continues on we’ve seen that Hammond Motorsports and Kyle Bronson have found the set-up and they ran with it. Garret Stewart continues to chase a win and, of course, Kent Corbin continues to regain his old ways and how amazing would it be for him to win at the track his father built! Never count anyone out in the Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds.

Friend’s Racing and Sheffield Motorsports picked 2 heavyweights to go all out for the Hobby Stock title and the fans have been rewarded with quite a fight. Gamble and Wright continue to go back and forth as Gamble takes the quicker Friend’s Racing #12 to the front (4 points-paying times exactly) but Wright keeps the Sheffield #99 in the top 5 every week and has reeled off 6 wins so far. Mike Stalnaker, Hunter Gustafson, and Mark Maresca have a nice fight going on for 3rd-5th as Stalnaker keeps his under-powered #9 up front. Gustafson continues to improve and has become a well-rounded driver while Maresca finds new speed and new life every week. However, none of those drivers have won as the likes of Tim Powers, Josh Byrd, Tim Gay, Josh Bedenbaugh, and Kevin Durden spoil the party and show why they are some of the best Hobby Stock racers in the Southeast. In fact, every driver has shown that they can compete in the most competitive Hobby Stock division around! (more…)
