The Top Gun Sprints made their first visit of 2011 to the Hendry County Motorsports Park in Clewiston on Saturday February 26, 2011. There were 14 cars at the track to give fans two heat races and a 25 lap feature race.
The heat races are lined up using a pill pull system, and Mark Ruel Jr. in the 83 had the pole for the start of the first heat race with Tim George in the 1* on the outside, Tim George took the race lead at the start and held on to take the race win. Johnny Gilbertson had the pole for the start of the second heat race in the 27 car with Danny Martin in the 24 on the outside, Danny Martin took the initial race lead and went on to take the heat win.
Using a passing points system to line up the feature race and a six car inversion, Terry Witherspoon in the 43 car had the pole for the start of the feature race, with Ryan Partin in the 14 car on the outside. The race got underway and Lap 1 seen first caution with Tyler Godwin clipped big tire in turn four, with broken parts was done for the night. On the next complete restart Danny Martin come from the 4th position and took the race lead and never looked back taking the win. Ryan Partin in the 14 finished in second place, followed by Terry Witherspoon in the 43, Mark Ruel Jr. in the 83, with Tim George in the 1* car finishing out the top 5. The KSE Hard Charger Award went to Jimmy Ballew Jr. in the 0 car.

This Saturday at Hendry County Motorsports Park marks the start of the 2011 Top Gun Sprint Series, which figures to be its most competitive season to date.
“All systems are go for this weekend at Hendry County Motorsports Park for us to get our 2011 championship season under way,” said Top Gun Sprint Series President Don Rehm. “With our expected full field of some of the best sprint car racers in the state of Florida, what looks to be perfect weather and all of the activities going on with the Swamp Cabbage Festival, I think racecar fans will get their money’s worth this weekend.”
Last season, Tim George and Ryan Partin battled all season, with Tim winning the 2010 championship by only 18 points, and both are expected to return in 2011. Also expected to be involved in the championship mix for 2011 are third place finisher Shawn Murray, Danny “The Hammer” Martin Jr. and Tyler Godwin, who closed out the season fighting for the win at East Bay Raceway Park.
“This is our first visit to Hendry County Motorsports Park with the Top Gun Sprint Series, so it’s somewhat of a level playing field for our competitors” continued Rehm. “We’ve also got some new teams coming out that used to compete in other sprint car series on both asphalt and dirt, so this should make for a very exciting race.”

7:00 – Racing Starts.

I can’t wait to see everyone this weekend. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I have been ready to get back to some racing.
We have been talking to some of you drivers and we are going to add 3 classes to the show this Saturday night. Now don’t freak out guys and girls. This will be a non-points race. This will be a trophy dash for Limited Wing Sprints, Limited Late Model Sportsman, and V-8 Bombers Friday and Saturday. Great way to get ready for the season and shake down your new stuff and your old stuff. Let’s go racing boys!
I have some nice trophies for the dash races that would look really good in your shop.
February is right around the corner and we will be starting our spring cleaning early, and we need your help. Drivers, crews, race fans, excreta. We will be having a track beautification clean up day on Saturday February 5th. We would like everyone that can help or would like to help, to bring weed eaters, mowers, bobcats, skid steers, or any tools and machinery and able bodied people that can help us get ready for 2011.
Then on Sunday February 6th we will have open practice for all classes. It will only be ten dollars to come and practice from 2 until dark. All the money raised will go directly to the track “grader fund” to replace the blown motor. We will also be having a 50/50 drawing at the banquet Saturday January 15th and half the drawing will go to the winner and the other half will go to the grader. We would like to thank Sprint car driver and owner, Captain Tony Agin from “Captain Tony’s Fishing Adventures” on Ft Myers beach. He has stepped up to help get the Grader “rolling” by donating $100 to the grader motor fund. Its going to be a great year at the south’s furthest most dirt track in the United States.

Well Mother Nature kicked our butts Saturday night, we will be ready to do it again July 10th as we get ready for the 4 cyl. bomber world championship ($1000.00 to win)and much more with all classes racing.
