Drag Racing Returns To GMP This Saturday – 2014 Street Drag/Show N’ Shine Events Debut
JEFFERSON, GA – After nearly a 50-year absence, Drag Racing will return to Gresham Motorsports Park with the debut of the GMP Street Drags / Shown N’ Shine program this Saturday.
“Most people don’t know that the first racetrack at GMP wasn’t an oval, it was a drag strip,” said track general manager John Close. “Local residents Hansel Wilson and Quentin Freeman built the track and they held all kinds of drag races here from 1963 through 1967. The strip featured a quarter-mile asphalt track and a dirt run-off area. It was located where the GMP back-straight trackside parking is now. There were no grandstands – spectators just stood by the track. There were also two little wooden concessions – one that cooked, one that didn’t. That’s great history that most people don’t know about. Now, after all this time, it’s pretty cool to be bringing drag racing back to Gresham Motorsports Park.”
In all, Gresham Motorsports Park will hold eight Street Drag/Show N’ Shine events in 2014. Each event will feature a Car Show from 2-5:30 p.m. before the Street Drag portion of the program opens its gates at 6 p.m. with the first race at 7 p.m. (more…)
GMP DRIVERS CASH IN AT FIRST-EVER ‘STOCKERAMA’
A total of six drivers came up with both some hard cash and some hardware as Gresham Motorsports Park opened its 2014 racing season Saturday evening.

Veteran Mini-Stockers Scotty Beck and Steve Hill put on a spirited race swapping the lead three times in the final 10 laps of the quarter-mile lid-lifter. On the final circuit, Hill spun allowing Beck to roll under Waylan Nicholsen’s checkered flag as the winner.
In the Sportsman/Renegade showdown, Jackie Daniel’s 1979 Chevy Camaro came home with $400, a GMP hat and a trophy for top honors in the Sportsman Division while Bryan Beckner rally crossed his way to first-place money, a new cap and some hardware too. (more…)

GMP TO PROMOTE SAFE DRIVING WITH JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
JEFFERSON, GA (March 27, 2014) – Thanks to a partnership with the Jackson County (GA) Sheriff’s Department, a driver safety program designed to teach people of all ages about racing as a sport and discourage racing on our highways will be a key component of the Street Drag/Shown N’ Shine programs at Gresham Motorsports Park in 2014.
According to GMP Street Drag/Show N’ Shine program director Nathaniel ‘Boo’ Carlisle, the association with the local law enforcement agency will hopefully help control illegal street racing throughout the area.
“We know people want to showcase their cars and that’s why we created the GMP Street Drag/Show N’ Shine program this year,” Carlisle stated. “By providing a safe, controlled environment, people can do just that here at GMP. Just as importantly, they can do it without here breaking the law and endangering themselves and others on our public streets. Thanks to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, we’re going to be able to really get the message out to the community that if you want to have fun with your car this summer, GMP – and not on the street – is the place to do it.” (more…)
