Repeat Winners Dominate East Bay Action

Sept. 10, 2011 – The fall portion of the East Bay Raceway Park 2011 racing season got into full swing as Mother Nature took a night off from pestering outdoor activity. The result was a perfect night for exciting racing action and the competitors were glad to oblige.
The night opened with a pair of outlaw 4 heat races, won by Stephen Hohlbaugh and point leader Nick Hebrank. For the 15-lap main, Hebrank grabbed the early lead, but spun on the second lap. That mishap gave the lead to Kyle Kruse who kept it for a few laps before a strong run by Jesse Brown put the three-time feature win into the lead. Brown had company with Shirlene Hammond, who swept past on a restart. All was going well for Hammond until she spun in turn two on lap 11. Fortunately, a caution came out for Megan Rae, resetting the field to the last completed lap. Hammond was able to keep the point to the checkered to claim her second East Bay win of the season. “This car has been in seven features and led all seven,” she said about the ride that is nicknamed White Lightnin’. “It has won five of those races.” Brown was able to stay second with Billy Howard, Eric Knight and Kyle Worden trailing.
