Doug Watson Wins Late Model Feature At East Bay Raceway Park

March 24, 2012 – Tampa, Fl – Mother Nature looked like she was going to be the big winner tonight before the races got underway as clouds were in full force around the speedway.

The first feature of the night went to the Outlaw Fours. Nick Hebrank and Shirlene Hammond won their heat races. On the front row for the feature was Billy Howard and Stephen Hohlbaugh. When the green flag waved, it was Howard and Hohlbaugh side by side into turn one. (more…)

Bobby Dixon Back In Victory Lane At East Bay Raceway Park

March 17, 2012 – Tampa, Fl – The color green was all over the stands in celebration of St.Patrick’s Day. Six divisions were on hand to compete tonight along with the Fan Participation race.

First up were the Street Stocks. It was father and son, Jeff and Justan Rodgers winning the heat races. When it came time for the feature, it was past feature winners Donnie Reed and Eric Moon on the front row. When the green flag dropped, it was Reed out in front with Moon right behind him.  (more…)

Travis Varnadore Wins Late Model Race At East Bay Raceway Park

March 10, 2012 – Tampa, FL – Night two of the 2012 Season kicked off tonight with five divisions on hand. Over 85 cars were on hand to try and qualify to run their feature events.  First up were the Outlaw Fours as they made their debut for the 2012 Season. Nick Hebrank and Kyle Kruse won their heat races early on. On the front row for the feature was Kruse and
Shirlene Hammond. On the green flag it was Hammond taking the early lead with Kruse right behind her. First caution came out with Kyle Worden spinning on lap one.  On the restart, Hammond once again took control as they headed into turn one. (more…)

Maddox and Quinn Pick Up First Feature Wins At East Bay Raceway Park

March 3, 2012 – Tampa, FL – It was opening night for the 2012 Season at East Bay Raceway Park. Over 80 cars were in attendance tonight. Fans were ready as the season kicked off with Late Models, East Bay Sprints, Street Stocks and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers.

First feature of the night went to the Street Stocks. David Barwick, II, Eric Moon and the defending Champion Jeff Rodgers all won heat races early on. It was Barwick and Rodgers on the front row for the start of the feature. Barwick took the early lead, but it was Moon coming from the third position to take the first lap. (more…)

Styres is Crowned “King of 360’s” in Ronald Laney Memorial

Lonnie Wheatley, TAMPA, Fla. (February 25, 2012) – Ontario, Canada’s Glenn Styres scored a resounding upset victory by reaching victory lane in Saturday night’s 40-lap 11th Annual Ronald Laney Memorial to put the caps on the 14th Annual “King of the 360’s” Nationals at East Bay Raceway Park. 

And, the triumph came in dramatic fashion, as the Ohsweken Speedway track owner charged past Ohio’s Darren Long in the final corner to take the checkered flag and the $10,000 triumph after starting 18th aboard the Arrow Express/Rochester Knighthhawks No.  0 on the final night of East Bay’s 36th Annual Winter Nationals.  (more…)

Stewart Makes it Two in a Row in “King of 360’s” Action!

Lonnie Wheatley, TAMPA, Fla. (February 24, 2012) – Shane Stewart is rapidly establishing himself as an unstoppable force at East Bay Raceway Park’s 36th Annual Winter Nationals as he raced to victory lane for the second time in as many nights of 14th Annual “King of the 360’s” competition atop the 1/3-mile clay oval.

After winning Thursday night’s opener, the Bixby, OK, native slid past Tim Crawley in turns three and four on the third round and led the rest of the way in Friday’s 25-lapper to make it two-for-two aboard the Gaerte Engines/DDNi/GLR Investments No. 3g. 

With a sweep of preliminary feature action on Thursday and Friday, Stewart has earned the pole position for Saturday night’s $10,000-to-win Ronald Laney Memorial. (more…)

Stewart Wins King of 360’s Opener!

Lonnie Wheatley, TAMPA, Fla. (February 23, 2012) – Bixby, Oklahoma native Shane Stewart kicked off East Bay Raceway Park’s 14th Annual “King of the 360’s” Nationals by racing to victory lane in Thursday night’s 25-lap feature at the 36th Annual Winter Nationals.

Stewart worked traffic on the 1/3-mile clay oval to his advantage by racing from third to first on the 11th round en route to victory lane aboard the Gaerte-powered XYZ Machining No. 3g. 

While Stewart gridded the feature field inside the third row, pole starter Lou Kennedy, Jr., outgunned fellow front row starter and 2006 “King of the 360’s” Terry McCarl for the lead at the drop of the green flag.  (more…)

Francis Fends Off Owens in Classic East Bay Finish

TAMPA, FL (February 18, 2012) – Steve Francis of Ashland, KY outdueled defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN in an exciting finish at East Bay Raceway Park. Francis picked up $10,000 for his win in the finale of the 36th Annual DART Winternationals. He scored his second win of the week, in doing so. The duo was followed by Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN; Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN; and Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL.   Erb earned the week-long DART Winternationals Championship. He won $5,000 for his efforts. 

He had to withstand Owens’ repeated efforts over the last four laps after a caution came out for Jason Riggs. On the restart Owens tried the inside of Francis several times, but Francis repelled him at each turn. Francis also won the Thursday night installment of the Winternationals. O’Neal was able to get by Bloomquist on the 60th and final lap to claim third after pitting for fresh tires on lap 27. (more…)

Erb Rebounds for Exciting Win at East Bay on Friday Night

TAMPA, FL (February 17, 2012) – Battling back from an early caution, Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL had the fans on their feet as he captured Friday night’s exciting 50-lap DART Winternationals event. Erb took the lead on lap 48 and roared to the finish in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned race. 

Erb originally started 14th on the grid, but tangled with Austin Hubbard on lap three. This brought out the first caution of the race. Erb pitted, changed a tire, and restarted in 23rd position. He then charged through the field, and passed Randy Korte of Highland, IL on lap 47. Erb got around both Korte and Tyler Reddick at the same time. He powered away and took his Bloomquist Race Cars #28 to victory lane for the second time in his career at East Bay. (more…)

Incredible Finish Goes to Francis at East Bay

TAMPA, FL (February 16, 2012) – Steve Francis passed Austin Hubbard coming off of turn four on the final lap of tonight’s 35-lap DART Winternationals feature. Francis took home $7,000 for his win. In a thrilling finish, Hubbard finished second, followed by Dennis Erb Jr., Don O’Neal, and Jared Landers. With the win, Francis notched his ninth career victory at East Bay Raceway Park and his sixth career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series triumph.

The main events have been packed with excitement all week. Tonight fans saw another “barn-burner” of a main event. (more…)
