Mark Whitner Wins Back To Back Scott Thompson Memorials Picking Up A Big Payday of $4,000 At East Bay Raceway Park

Whitner-winner-9-7-13September 7, 2013 – Tampa, FL – Tonight was the 7th Annual Scott Thompson Memorial 50 Lap Feature Paying $3,800 to the winner sponsored by Airgas. Also racing were the Limited Late Models, V8 Warriors, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and the Florida Old Time Modifieds.

First feature of the night was the V8 Warriors. Winning their heats were Don Foligno and Jeff Weaver.  When the green flag waved for the feature it was pole sitter Derek Gray taking the early lead. The first caution came out as Jeff Firestein spun in turn two. After the restart Gray was followed by Jeff Weaver into turn one with Foligno right on his back bumper. On lap six it was Gray and Weaver side by side at the line until the next lap when Weaver took over the top spot. The final caution came out as Tim Stoffel spun in turn two. With the final restart on lap eleven Weaver had Reyes right on his back bumper hoping Weaver would make the mistake and pick up the win. When the checkered waved it was Weaver picking up the win the Marco Reyes, Kevin Cassaday, Jessica Robbins and Bill Whitney rounding out the top five.
Next up was the Late Model Consolation race as the top four would advance to the A-Main. Wallace Peacock and Tommy Prince made up the front row. Steve Miller took the early lead until lap six when Adam Boyd spun in turn one with Jeff Mathews avoiding him in the sixth position trying to advance. Only one other caution came out as Steve Miller picked up the win with Mavrick Varnadore, Mark Haase and Jeff Mathews all advancing to the A-Main. Jason Meyers Returns to Form, Earns Second Gold Cup Win

Retired two-time World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion conquers 60th running of historic event at Silver Dollar Speedway

090713_SP_ChicoGoldCup_650x400CHICO, Calif. – Sept. 7, 2013 – Two-time World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion Jason Meyers hadn’t been in a racecar since June 15, but no one would’ve guessed it on Saturday night after he made a mid-race pass for the lead and drove to victory in the 60th Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway.

Meyers captured two championships before announcing his retirement from the series in 2012 and has been on limited duty in sprint car racing in his native California since then, but on Saturday night he was in prime shape, capturing the lead and the victory after passing current championship leader Daryn Pittman on a lap 21 restart to lead a California sweep of the podium.

Andy Forsberg, who finished third in Friday night’s feature, bettered that performance on Saturday night with a second-place run. Jonathan Allard finished third, one spot ahead of Kyle Larson. Pittman finished fifth to and was the highest finishing World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series driver. (more…)

Keith Nosbisch Wins By Mere Inches Over Crouse In Late Model Feature At East Bay Raceway Park

August 31, 2013 – Tampa, FL  – It was a night of non-stop action at East Bay Raceway Park as five divisions were on hand. Late Models had their warm-up race before the Scott Thompson Memorial next weekend on September 7th. Also on hand tonight were the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Fours, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers.

First feature of the night was the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks. Winning their heats were Mike Wilson and Thomas Burnside. For the front row of the 15 Lap Feature Event were Justan Rodgers and Thomas Burnside. When the green flag waved it was Burnside taking over the lead on lap one and not looking back as he had Mike Wilson and Justan Rodgers trying to chase him down. Burnside was leading until his brother William Burnside spun with just five laps remaining. That put Wilson and Rodgers right on his back bumper for the five remaining laps. With just one lap to go it was fourth place Micheal Eaton spinning in turn four bringing out the final caution of the race. So when the green and white were waved together, Burnside went on to win his very first feature in the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks. Rounding out the top five were Mike Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Jr., Buck Woodhouse and William Burnside. (more…)

Billy Boyd, Jr. Wins East Bay Sprints 2nd Annual Bob Long Memorial In Dominating Fashion

August 24, 2013 – Tampa, FL – It was another night of watching the skies as Mother Nature was trying to end the night before it was started. A few drops came from the skies above but eventually went away as 15 Sprints were ready to claim the 2nd Annual Bob Long Memorial. Also racing were the Outlaw Fours, V8 Warriors and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers.

First feature went to the Outlaw Fours. Winning the heat was Jesse James Foster. For the feature it was Megan Meyer and Nick Hebrank. When the green flag waved it was Hebrank leading lap one until lap two when Meyer spun in turn one facing the wrong way. On the restart it was Hebrank leading the field until lap three when Billy Howard took over the lead and never looked back. “We finally got the monkey off our back. We were leading the last race and the motor blew up. I was almost ready to sell this and help my dad on his Open Wheel” said Howard in Victory Lane. Rounding out the top five were Nick Hebrank, Brandon Yates, Jesse James Foster and Megan Meyer.
Next up were the V8 Warriors. Winning their heats were Tommy Hill and Bill Whitney who also made up the front row for the feature. When the green flag waved it was Hill leading the way from green to checkered flag winning his second feature of the season. Several cars battled lap after lap trying to catch him but were not able to. Rounding out the top five were Marco Reyes, Bill Whitney, Derik Rose and Jeff Weaver. (more…)

Buzzie Reutimann Dominates Larry Miller Memorial Paying $2,000 To Win For Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds At East Bay Raceway Park

August 17, 2013 – Tampa, FL – It was another night of excitement as crowds anticipated if Mother Nature would play spoils to the Larry Miller Memorial for the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds. The original date was set on June 22nd but was rained out before the night started. A light shower came around 4:30 pm but cleared out as pit gates were opened around 5:00 pm and cars and fans entered the pits and grandstands. Also racing were the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, Florida Old Time Mods and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers

First feature of the night went to the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks as William Burnside and Mike Wilson won their heats and made up the front row for the feature event. When the green waved it was Wilson taking charge and leading the way for the first eleven laps until William Burnside spun in turn four while battling with his brother Thomas for the third position. On the restart it was Wilson leading the way with Jeff Rodgers and Thomas Burnside your top three. On lap thirteen it was Thomas Burnside spinning out in turn two while running in the third position. With just two laps remaining Wilson went on to win his first feature of the 2013 Season. Mike was all smiles getting out of his car and getting a kiss from his wife as his car owner and crew met him in Victory Lane. Rounding out the top five were Jeff Rodgers, Dennis Wilson, Jr., Buck Woodhouse in the 55R driving by his brother as his car had blown up during the heat races. Jack Nosbisch, Jr. Wins Late Model Feature Preparing For Scott Thompson Memorial

Nosbisch-Winer-8-10-13August 10, 2013 – Tampa, FL – It was a hot summer night as the Late Models made their return after their last race on May 25th after weeks of rainouts here at East Bay Raceway Park. Also racing tonight were the V8 Warriors, Outlaw Fours and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers.

First feature of the night went to the Outlaw Fours. Winning the heat was Billy Howard early on and he and Stephen Hohlbaugh would make up the front row for the feature. When the green flag waved it was Hohlbaugh jumping out to the top spot with Howard trailing him until the first caution of the night came out when Megan Meyer would come to rest in turn four. The green waved once again and it was on lap seven when Brandon Yates got sideways and with nowhere to go Nick Hebrank was caught up in the wreck which ended his night. When the checkered flag waved it was Hohlbaugh picking up his sixth win of the 2013 season. Rounding out the top five were Raymond Folwell, Billy Howard, Brandon Yates and Megan Meyer coming back to finish fifth. (more…)

Matt Miller Wins Gagel’s Open Wheel Modified Feature Tuning For Larry Miller Memorial

Miller 8-3-13August 3, 2013 – Tampa, FL – Once again Mother Nature co-operated with us as five classes were in action tonight. The Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, Outlaw Fours, Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, V8 Warriors and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers.

First Feature of the night belonged to the Outlaw Fours. Winning their heats were Jesse James Foster and Zach Amundsen. For the feature making up the front row was Bill Mort and Brandon Yates. When the green waved it was Amundsen taking over the top spot and leading for the first three laps until the first caution came out as Rachelle Rudolph’s car went up in flames in turn two. Rudolph was okay and she said car would be ready to race next weekend. On the restart Amundsen would lead again until the next caution came out on lap four as Yates spun in turn three. On the restart it was Amundsen leading with Hohlbaugh right on his back bumper as the two would cross the line side by side and Hohlbaugh taking over on lap six. When the checkered waved it was Hohlbaugh picking up his fifth win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Amundsen, Foster, Nick Hebrank and Raymond Folwell. (more…)

East Bay Victorious Over Mother Nature After Six Weeks Of Rain Outs

1074847_10201747285909779_925227542_oJuly 20, 2013 – Tampa, FL – It has been since May 25th since the last feature winner’s photo was taken in Victory Lane at East Bay Raceway Park. Tonight East Bay was victorious as cars and fans were able to attend The Clay By The Bay to hear the sounds of motors roaring down the front stretch and cars going side-ways through the turns on the 1/3 mile track. Five classes were on hand tonight as the Gagels, Open Wheel Modifieds, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, Outlaw Fours, V8 Warriors and the Florida Old Time Modifieds were on hand to put on a show for the hungry fans.

First feature of the night went to the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks with Dennis Wilson, Jr and Thomas Burnside winning their heats. For the feature it was David Barwick, II and Tommy Hill making up the front row. Tommy Hill led the first lap until the caution came out as Billy Barstow spun in turn four. Hill would lead the next two laps until Jeff Rodgers and Mike Wilson tangled on the back stretch bringing out the second and final caution of the race. Tommy Hill would go on to cross the finish line first but was later dq’d in tech for the wrong tires. Hill from Clewiston made his return after five years and had borrowed tires from a fellow competitor. Buck Woodhouse who finished second was declared the winner with Thomas Burnside, Dennis Wilson, Jr., William Burnside and Jeff Rodgers rounding out the top five. (more…)

Mother Nature Wins At East Bay Raceway Park

eastbaylogoTampa, FL – June 1, 2013 – Mother Nature won tonight at East Bay Raceway Park. Heats were run for the Outlaw Fours, Limited Late Models and the first heat of the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks as rain began to come down just before heat number two. Track Officials waited as long as they could hoping the front would pass through. Just as track maintenance began for preparation to finish out the night, down come the rain once again.
ASA Racing continues next weekend with the East Bay Sprints and the first of two appearances of the Florida Mini Sprints. Also racing next weekend will be the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Fours and the V8 Warriors. Keith Nosbisch Wins Late Model Feature Preparing For Scott Thomspson Memorial Race On June 15th At East Bay Raceway Park

First feature of the night went to the V8 Warriors. Winning their heats were Jeff Weaver and Raymond Folwell. Derek Gray and Kevin Cassaday would make up the front row for the feature event. The green flag waved and it was Derek Gray taking the lead on lap one until Raymond Folwell took over on the very next lap. Caution would come out on lap two when Brian Danforth broke and hit the turn four wall ending his night. The green waved and it was Folwell slowing in turn two with a right rear flat handing the lead over to last week’s feature winner Marco Reyes. (more…)
