Wilson wins Frank Stromquist 57 at Citrus County Speedway
A strong 18 car Street Stock field registered to compete in this years Frank Stromquist Memorial 57 lap event. Frank was a fixture in the speedway pit area, both as a driver and crew member. Frank was taken too early from this world, and this annual race pays tribute to his memory. Street Stocks got the night started off with time trial qualifying, each driver would take the fastest of two timed laps to help set the starting grid for the 57 lap feature. After everyone took their best shot, Kyle Peters (53) would find the fast way around with a solid lap of 15.99 seconds. John Chance (61) would follow in 2nd with a lap of 16.03, and Joe Piazza (99) 3rd with a lap of 16.14. After the fan determined invert of 6 rows, the top qualifiers would find themselves starting 11th and 12th on the grid. The 6 row invert would put J D Goff (16) and Kenny May (10) on the front row for the start of the feature. May would jump to the early lead with Leonard Arnold (60) 2nd, and Bubba Martone (98) in 3rd. Martone would move by Arnold for 2nd, and bring Tim Alexander (63) with him to 3rd. Behind them the battle was raging with the fast qualifiers racing their way to the front of the field. (more…)
Inverness, FL – 23 Sportsman competitors started the night off with time trial qualifying around the ¼ speedway for their 50 lap feature event. After each driver took the fastest of their 2 laps, Patrick Thomas (25) was the man on top of the mountain, with a fast lap of 14.52 seconds. Following him were Mike Bresnahan (69) in 2nd at 14.58, and Brandon Morris (56) at a 14.61. After the fan determined 6 row inversion for the feature, the top three had their work cut out for them, now starting right in the middle of a competitive field. Mark Peterson (73) would benefit from the deep inversion, ending up on the pole position with Travis Hoefler (22) alongside for the green. At the drop of the green, the action was non stop through the field. Peterson would jump out to the early lead with Hoefler settling into 2nd. Behind them, the dash for the front of the field was on. The cars of Thomas, Bresnahan, Morris, George Gorham Jr (10) and Aaron Williamson (13) were all racing furiously to get to the front first. Citrus County Speedway fans saw the racing action crank up Saturday night with time trial qualifying for the Florida United Promoters Series late models. 21 of the states top drivers and cars all took the fastest of their two qualifying laps, to help determine their starting position for the 100 lap feature. Daniel Webster (33) set the fast time for the 2nd FUPS race at Citrus in a row, followed by Jesse Dutilly (30), and Steve Dorer (10) in 3rd. The top 8 drivers in the series then redraw for their starting positions. With the help of some young speedway fans, Jonathan Guy (42) had his lucky fan pull the pole position. He would have 3rd fastest qualifier and series point leader Steve Dorer alongside for the green flag. Guy would lead the field to green, and win the drag race with Dorer to turn one, but caution would fly for the stalled car of Jake Perkins (59) on the backstretch, before the lap was completed. Perkins had battled ignition problems all day, and an electrical short ended his night before the race even got started.
