Gary Gimmler tops Checkered Flag Sprints at Citrus County Speedway

The Checked Flag Sprint Series (CFSS) made their first visit of 2010 to Citrus County Speedway on Saturday April 17, 2010 with 18 cars to run three heat races and a 30 lap feature race.

Mickey Kempgens in the 19T car won the J.B. BANTA first heat from starting in second position. Mark Gimmler claimed the win for the GULF AMERICAN heat number two and Channing Conley took the EAGLE JET third heat win.

Ric Voisey had the pole for the start of the BARFIELD feature race in the 69 car with the 21A car of Robbie Hackett alongside. Ric got off to a great start and took the lead, Bryan Riddle in the 11 lead laps 2 and 3. On lap 4 Jimmy Alvis Jr. took the lead until lap 12 when Gary Gimmler in the 29 took the lead and never looked back taking the checkered flag. Mark Gimmler in the 51 car finished in 2^{nd place, followed by the 21 of Jimmy Alvis Jr. in 3rd , followed by the 19 of Keith Butler in 4th , and in 5th place was the 19T driven by Mickey Kempgens.}

Jack Smith Fundraiser at Citrus County Speedway

Drivers, fans, track staff and the whole spectrum of people from across the Florida racing family came together at Citrus County Speedway on Saturday to take part in a weekend of races to raise money for Jack Smith, founder and leading light of the KARNAC multimedia racing community. Now battling a terrible debilitating illness, the fondness and respect Jack has engendered in his many years supporting Florida racing and its drivers was obvious as the pits and grandstands filled with people representing all of Florida’s short-track racetracks and beyond, all coming to raise money to help Jack and his family through this difficult time.

But this was an evening of celebration as well as of fundraising as the racers put on a party the only way they know how – with high-speed, wheel-to-wheel racing! Top of the bill tonight would be a 50-lap showdown for a big field of Open Wheel Modifieds, while the Checkered Flag Sprints would also bring their show to the tight Inverness track. The fans would also be treated to the spectacular Dwarf Cars and regular division races for the Pure Stock, Street Stock, Truck and 4 cylinder Bomber divisions. (more…)

Wayne Anderson Charges from Last to First to Win F.A.S.T. Late Model 100 Lapper at Citrus

The brand new Sunoco Florida All Star Touring series (FAST) had their first race of the year this past Saturday at Citrus County Speedway. The weekend started off with most of the late model teams showing up at the track on Friday for a full day of practice followed by a Barbeque dinner sponsored by Sonny’s Barbeque.

27 Late Models from all over the state of Florida, including 1 driver from New York, were on hand Saturday for the Inaugural event. When all of the cars had qualified, Wayne Anderson, in the #84, had the fast time of 13.551. Second fastest was the #85 of Austin Kirkpatrick with a 13.585, and 3^rd was the #09 of Scott Grossenbacher with a time of 13.692. The top 6 cars drew pills to determine that actual starting position. (more…)

Michael Cherry Wins Crazy Figure 8’s at Citrus County Speedway

Inverness, FL (February 13, 2010) The weather was frigid, but the racing action was as hot as ever last night at Citrus County Speedway.

The first feature event of the night was the four cylinder stocks. On the pole was the #21 of Phil Edwards, starting second was the #26 of Nathan Florian, and third was the #47 of Richard Kuhn.

The first caution of the race was brought out when the #71 of Sonya Heater, and the #79 of Wayne Heater made contact and spun in turn 2. They are father and daughter, and were both done for the night unfortunately after their wreck. The #32 of Jeremy Sharrone, who had started 5^th, had taken an early lead in the race and went on to win the feature. (more…)
