Webster’s winning way at Citrus County Speedway

Daniel Webster began his racing career at our very own Citrus County Speedway. Since then, Daniel has gone on to become a force in Florida super late model racing. He along with his father Glen, now travel the state running any big race that their family owned and funded team can. Saturday night Daniel made his return to Citrus County Speedway. His last trip ended with an exciting 2nd place finish in the season ending 100 lap United Promoters late model series, just behind the always tough Herb Neumann Jr. Daniel would return with a new race car for this event, looking to take the checkered flag this time.

20 Super Late Models registered to compete for their 35 lap feature event. After the fan voted 6 row inversion, Cliff Bifaro (12) and T J Duke (28) would occupy the front row for the green. Bifaro would jump out to the early lead, but Duke would find his way by on the bottom, and move to the top spot on lap 4. (more…)

Herb Neumann Jr goes wire to wire in Open Wheel Modifies at Citrus County Speedway

Two weeks ago Herb Neumann Jr seemed to finally get the handle behind the wheel of the 01 Open Wheel Modified normally piloted by his son, Curtis. After Curtis moved out of state to pursue his career, father Herb decided to see what he could do behind the wheel of this proven winning machine. The first few races in the car saw Herb struggle to get the handle on the chassis, and adjust to the new type of car, after running Super Late Models for many seasons. Two weeks ago all the bugs seemed to be worked out, as driver and machine were in perfect harmony. Neumann was out front, and looked to have the fastest car on this night. But lady luck would have other plans, a flat tire under a lap 17 caution, would steal his first Open Wheel Modified victory. This week, Neumann would return, looking to avenge his bad luck. (more…)

Foley tops Modified Mini’s at Citrus County Speedway

For anyone who has visited the Citrus County Speedway over the past 3 years, the name Clint Foley is very familiar to fans and foes alike. Foley has all but dominated the Modified Mini Stock division at the speedway, winning the last 3 points championships. Saturday night, Foley would start in an all to familiar position, the last row of the field. Brad Blanton (14) and Chris Snow (29) would bring the field to the green flag. Their time at the front of the field would be short lived as 7th place starter Mark Powers (69) would power his way to the front of the pack. Behind him, 5th starter Rick Kuhn (47) and Foley (7) were making their way through the field. (more…)

Rubbin’ is Racin’ at Citrus County Speedway

Citrus County Speedway fans, drivers, and crews were greeted with perfect racing weather on Saturday night. 80 drivers would all take their shot a bringing home the checkered flag, but some would leave with far less.

12 Sportsman cars took the green for their 25 lap feature, by the end, less than half the field would see the checkered flag. A 6 row inversion put Andy Nichols (66) on the pole for the 2nd straight feature, he turned the 1st one into a feature win. This one did not turn out as well, contact between Nichols and a hard charging Cody Sitckler (99) on lap 10 would send both drivers to the rear, and out of contention. This would hand over the lead to 2011’s division champion Brandon Morris (56). Behind him the sparks continued to fly, Nichols and Stickler would again make contact on lap 12, sending both cars into the front stretch wall. (more…)

Neumann tops Late Models at Citrus County Speedway

Citrus County Speedway fans were greeted with cold temperatures and a stiff wind on Saturday night. With nearly 60 cars in the pits for 5 divisions of racing, the fans were ready for the drivers to heat things up.

18 Super Late Models all took the green for their 35 lap feature with Todd Brown (23) and Drew Brannon (82) on the front row. Brannon would take the machine normally piloted by Danny Maddox, to the lead from the pole position. Randy Anderson (4) would shake out in the 2nd position in his new ride, with Brown settling into the 3rd spot. These two drivers would put on a spirited battle until the first caution would  fly at lap 24. Behind these two young guns, 2012 division champion Herb Neumann Jr. had raced his way to 3rd, after coming from the 14th starting position. (more…)

Father & Son Battle to Finish at Citrus County Speedway

From CCS Media – Citrus County Speedway kicked off it’s 2012 racing season in style with some exciting racing action on Saturday night. 18 Pure Stocks registered to compete for their 20 lap feature, which had a emotional and thrilling finish. Nicholas Malverty launched his bright yellow 17 car from his 8th starting position to take the lead by the end of lap 5. Following him was someone Nicholas is very familiar with, his father Eugene, in his bright yellow No. 23 machine. These two would battle for the lead over the final 15 laps, along with Larry Welter Jr. (58) in 3rd. In the end Nicholas showed that father doesn’t always know best, as he edged out the elder Malverty to take the first Pure Stock feature win of 2012. (more…)
