Ty Dillon’s DIRTcar Nationals Domination Continues with Gator Championship Win at Volusia Speedway Park

021714_DCN_MOD_Feature BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 17, 2014 – Ty Dillon has dominated the DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment this year, and on Monday night at Volusia Speedway Park he earned his biggest victory of the week when he led wire-to-wire in the Gator Championship for DIRTcar UMP Modifieds.

DIRTcar Late Models also helped kick off the second week of action at the DIRTcar Nationals with Florida late model hero Ivedent Lloyd Jr. holding off Wisconsin’s Brady Smith for the victory.

Monday was Dillon’s night, though. He drew the outside pole for the 30-lapper alongside Kenny Wallace and quickly jumped in front. Dillon methodically edged away lap-after-lap until a mid-race caution bunched the field. Ty Dillon charged back to green with Nick Hoffman, Wallace and Matt Westfall in tow. Austin Dillon, Ty’s brother who won the Daytona 500 pole and was seeking his second win in as many nights, quickly picked off Westfall and Wallace and set his sights on Hoffman as he tried to catch his brother in front. Schatz Strikes, Dillon Repeats on Huge Night at DIRTcar Nationals

Tony Stewart Racing driver pushes from 11th to win at DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment

BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 15, 2014 – It was only the second World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series race of the season on Saturday night at Volusia Speedway Park, but Donny Schatz looks like he’s in midseason form after charging from 11th to victory in front of packed grandstands at the DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

Then in the DIRTcar UMP Modified nightcap, Ty Dillon motored his way to victory lane for second consecutive night, putting himself in prime position for a shot at Monday’s Gator Championship.

But Saturday night belonged to Tony Stewart Racing’s Schatz. Just when it looked like Kasey Kahne Racing’s Cody Darrah was cruising toward victory in the 30-lap main event, Schatz took off, eventually passing last year’s World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion Daryn Pittman for second, then charging past Darrah for the win.

“It was a lot of fun, you kind of had to pass everywhere,” said Schatz, the five-time series champion from Fargo, N.D. “We didn’t have the greatest night (Friday) night, but you’ll have that in racing. It’s how quick you rebound, came back today with had an awesome race car and got ourselves qualified well. Every time we made changes we went the right direction. It was a fun race, it was awesome and fast. Sometimes I didn’t know where I was going to end up. I don’t know anybody who doesn’t come to the race to win, but we were extra hungry leaving here (Friday) night, we felt like we had a decent run from the back. It just wasn’t very good and we were a long ways off on balance. Those guys are what make that car fast and I get the fun job.” (more…)

Bronson Edges Dillon for DIRTcar Nationals UMP Modified Victory

Saldana holds off McMahan in sprint cars during 12-day event at Volusia

021314_webgraphic BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 13, 2014 – Kyle Bronson edged Ty Dillon, and Joey Saldana held off Paul McMahan, during the DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment on Thursday night at Volusia Speedway Park.

As the early leaders in the 20-lap DIRTcar UMP Modified feature found trouble, Bronson kept pushing to the front, eventually moving to the high side of the half-mile oval and edging NASCAR Nationwide driver Ty Dillon by 0.28 at the checkered flag.

“He went with a harder tire and I figured they would be better on the longer runs, but I think my softer tire worked better on the shorter run,” said Bronson, of Brandon, Fla. “Everybody acts like they’ve been given everything, but I’ve raced with them and they’re the best in the business, they should have been in NASCAR a long time ago.”

Earlier in the night, World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series regular Saldana showed off some newfound horsepower as he led the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions main event from wire-to-wire, topping his good friend, McMahan, in the process. Saldana and his Motter Motorsports team came together quickly before last season and struggled early. Now a year under their belts, Saldana has been one of the fastest cars on the track this February. (more…)

Strong Storm Forces Volusia Speedway Park to Cancel Wednesday Night’s DIRTcar Nationals Action

UNOH All Star Sprint Cars, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds Return to Action Thursday

2014_DIRTcarNats BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Feb. 12, 2014 — A strong, late afternoon thunderstorm with dangerous winds has forced Volusia Speedway Park officials to cancel Wednesday night’s action at the DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

Fans who purchased a ticket for Wednesday night’s races can exchange its value for another ticket during the remaining 10 days of the event.

Racing returns Thursday night at Volusia with UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars and DIRTcar UMP Modifieds. The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars will join the UMP Modifieds beginning Friday. On Monday, DIRTcar Late Models will begin competing at Volusia followed by Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds and World of Outlaws Late Models.

Strickler Tops NASCAR Stars In DIRTcar Nationals Thriller

Austin Dillon, Kenny Wallace pace field early during Volusia opener

021114_DCN_Graphic_600x400 BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Feb. 11, 2014 — On a night when NASCAR superstars invaded Volusia Speedway Park to race DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, it was Kyle Strickler battling back against Jeff Babcock on Tuesday to claim the first victory of the 43rd Annual DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

Austin Dillon and Kenny Wallace paced the field early in the 20-lap main event, but Strickler and Babcock worked their way to the front, swapped the lead back and forth before Strickler finally powered to the lead for good with two laps to go in the opener of the 12-night event.

“Usually on a racetrack this fast you don’t see racing that good,” said Strickler, of Mooresville, N.C. “Jeff and I hung out at Eldora and he’s a hell of a racer. I knew he would race me clean. This is probably one of the fastest racetracks I’ve raced on. It’s an amazing feat for us to come down here and do this well right off the bat.
As fast as Dillon and Wallace were early in the A-main, it was impressive the way Strickler and Babcock continued to push forward.

“They put their race suits on just like we do,” Strickler said. “The stuff they do on Sunday is completely different. I commend those guys for coming out, Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, the Dillons. If you look at the speed charts they were way out in front of us in the beginning, but the track came to us, the car came to me.” (more…)

DIRTcar Nationals ‘Six Pack Challenge’ Voting Closes

Six Super DIRTcar Series, six DIRTcar UMP Modified Drivers Entered into Special Races During the Two-Week Event Feb. 11-22 at Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 4, 2014 – Voting has closed in the DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment “Six Pack Challenge” with six Super DIRTcar Series drivers and six DIRTcar UMP Modified drivers earning positions to compete in the special six-lap dashes during the Feb. 11-22 event at Volusia Speedway Park.

Drivers eligible to compete in the DIRTcar UMP Modified Six Pack Challenge on Tuesday, Feb. 18, are Jeff Babcock, Steven Brooks, Matt Westfall, Kody Weisner, Kenny Wallace and Nate Zimmer.

Drivers eligible to race in the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Six Pack Challenge on Friday, Feb. 21, include Peter Britten, Mario Clair, J.R. Heffner, Bruno LaPage, Dave Rauscher and Matt Sheppard.

The two Six Pack Challenge races are six-lap dashes worth $500-to-win and $100-to-start.

Voting was closed ahead of schedule when officials determined electronic “vote bots” were being employed to manipulate the contest. Without a way to create a fair and level process once the voting was compromised on behalf of several drivers, some unknowingly, officials decided to cut short the contest on Tuesday and revert to totals from before the manipulation was detected. Two-Time Defending UMP Modified National Champion In Search Of First-Ever Triumph At Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, FL – Jan. 30, 2014 – Devin Gilpin’s 2013 DIRTcar UMP Modified national championship season was downright spectacular, but it didn’t start in especially memorable fashion.

And that blemish on an otherwise impeccable campaign will serve as extra motivation for Gilpin when he returns to Volusia Speedway Park – the site of his rare ’13 struggles – from Feb. 11-18 to tackle the UMP Modified portion of the 43^rd DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

Yes, Gilpin, 23, of Columbus, Ind., has some unfinished business to take care of at the sprawling half-mile oval outside Daytona Beach, Fla.

“Volusia wasn’t much fun for us last year,” bottom-lined Gilpin. “We only raced two nights. We had some trouble, there were a couple rainouts and, with my grandma not doing very good (battling cancer back in Indiana), we decided to just go home (early).”

Gilpin, of course, had entered the 2013 DIRTcar Nationals by Summit with high hopes. Coming off a 2012 season that saw him record 36 feature wins en route to his first-ever UMP Modified national title – and with memories of a strong third-place finish in the ’12 DIRTcar Nationals by Summit finale at Volusia adding to his confidence – he had visions of a career-first victory in the Sunshine State dancing in his head. Classic Tracks, New Additions Make for an Action-Packed Racing Schedule

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – Jan. 21, 2014 – Another action-packed year of DIRTcar Racing is set to kick off soon, with the Northeast’s premier traveling series taking on the region’s most exciting tracks. For the 2014 season, the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series spans from Florida to Quebec, bringing the best of the Big-Block Modfiieds to their classic venues and adding some new ones to the mix.

The DIRTcar 358-Modified Series, DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series and DIRTcar Pro Stock Series are also revving up for one of their busiest seasons in years, boasting a total of more than 60 races among the four DIRTcar Racing Northeast Region series.

The Super DIRTcar Series begins its season earlier than the rest with four races at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., bringing the cars and stars from the chilly northeast to warm Florida in February. Record Number Of Events On 2014 DIRTcar Summer Nationals ‘Hell Tour’ Schedule

Grueling Dirt Late Model Series Will Test Teams With 33 Races Over 39 Days

CONCORD, NC – Dec. 12, 2013 – A record number of events appear on the 2014 DIRTcar Summer Nationals ‘Hell Tour’ schedule, which was released Thursday by DIRTcar officials during the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Indianapolis.

Stretching nearly six weeks for the second consecutive year, dirt Late Model racing’s biggest test of man and machine will feature 33 races at 32 tracks in nine states over a period of 39 days.

The DIRTcar Summer Nationals will begin and end with traditional dates, kicking off on Wed., June 11, at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway and concluding on Sat., July 19, at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio. In between competitors will travel nearly 6,000 miles and compete for $215,000 in first-place prize money.

“The expansion of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals to six weekends in 2013 proved to be a big success so we’re sticking with the same time frame for the 2014 ‘Hell Tour’ schedule,” said DIRTcar UMP director Sam Driggers. “Extending the Summer Nationals not only allows us to slot in more off days for the race teams but also gives us the opportunity to accommodate more racetracks that desire events – and that, of course, brings the Summer Nationals to more fans across the Midwest.” (more…)

Friesen goes “out with a bang,” ending 2014 Super DIRTcar Series with World of Outlaws World Finals win

Hearn Crowned Super DIRTcar Series Champion After Four Wins and Consistently Strong Season

110913_FreisenLenhart CONCORD, N.C. – Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 – Ontario’s Stewart Friesen, of Niagara-on-the-Lake, wrapped up his racing season in style, charging to victory in Saturday’s Super DIRTcar Series 40-lap feature at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“It’s always good to go out with a bang,” said Friesen, who made a smooth late-race move in lap 37 to take the lead from series point leader Brett Hearn. “We passed the best in the business.”

Hearn, of Sussex, N.J., had already collected four Super DIRTcar Series wins and was aiming for number fiveSaturday, drawing the third starting position after winning Thursday’s heat race. Pole-sitter Ryan Godown had the initial lead, but Hearn charged ahead at the green flag and was a nose ahead of the No. 747 at the lap 1 start-finish line before the race’s first yellow flag waved.

Tim Currier, of Auburn, N.Y., collided with Billy Dunn, of Watertown, N.Y., to bring out that first caution. Dunn’s Number One Speed Shop No. 49 was towed off the track due to damage. (more…)
