Sheppard Continues Mastery Of Belle-Clair Speedway With Run From Eighth To Victory In ‘Photobilly 50’

Wins Second Straight World of Outlaws Late Model Series Race, Third Consecutive Major Event At Illinois Bullring

091313_BelleClairVLBELLEVILLE, IL – Sept. 13, 2013 – Brandon Sheppard has Belle-Clair Speedway figured out.

The fast-rising 20-year-old star from New Berlin, Ill., continued his mastery of the unique one-fifth-mile bullring on Friday night, marching forward from the eighth starting spot to capture the World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Photobilly 50’ for the second consecutive year.

It was the third straight major-event victory at Belle-Clair for Sheppard, who also won the demanding track’s DIRTcar Summer Nationals A-Main earlier this year en route to being crowned the ‘Hell Tour’ champion for the first time in his career.

“We got our stuff really good here,” said Sheppard, who picked up a $10,050 check for winning a race run in memory of late Belle-Clair track photographer Charles Haffer Jr. “Actually tonight was the best we’ve had it out of all three times we’ve won here. We were able to maneuver around a lot.” (more…)

Blankenship Reaches Mountaintop Of Dirt Late Model Racing With Career-First Victory In DIRTcar UMP-Sanctioned World 100 At Eldora Speedway

West Virginia Driver Charges Forward From 12th Starting Spot For $46,000 Triumph

090713_World100VLROSSBURG, OH – Sept. 7, 2013 – Welcome to the elite, John Blankenship.

The 32-year-old driver from Williamson, W.Va., reached the mountaintop of dirt Late Model racing on Saturday night, racing forward from the 12th starting spot to capture the 43rd annual DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned World 100 at Eldora Speedway.

Blankenship passed Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., for the lead on lap 53 and never looked back. He secured the biggest win of his decade-long racing career – a star-making triumph worth $46,000 – by reaching the checkered flag 1.757 seconds ahead of Union, Ky.’s Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., whose late bid to finally put the World 100 on his resume fell short.

A low-key racer who has come of age as a championship contender this season on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Blankenship kept an even keel during his Victory Lane celebration with his father/car owner Don and crew. He had a hard time grasping the significance of what he had accomplished in front of a massive crowd that ranked as one of the largest in the history of the historic high-banked, half-mile oval. McCreadie & Lanigan Bag $5,000 Victories On Second World 100 Preliminary Night At Eldora Speedway

090613_TMacVLROSSBURG, OH – Sept. 6, 2013 – Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., and Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., scored $5,000 triumphs in the Twin 25-lap features that highlighted Friday night’s second preliminary program of the 43rd annual DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned World 100 at Eldora Speedway.

Both World of Outlaws Late Model Series regulars took advantage of front-row starting spots to lead their respective headliners from flag-to-flag, but their roads to Victory Lane were far from easy.

McCreadie, 39, recorded his long-awaited first career dirt Late Model win at the high-banked, half-mile oval in the event reserved for the evening’s odd-number qualifiers. He grabbed the lead from the pole position at the initial green flag and was never headed in a caution-free race, but he barely outlasted the late-charging Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, Pa., who swiped the runner-up spot from Jeep VanWormer of Pinconning, Mich., on the final lap.

Lanigan, 43, raced off the outside pole to capture the feature for the even-number qualifiers after surviving mid-race challenges from John Blankenship of Williamson, W.Va., and Jared Landers of Batesville, Ark., and outrunning fellow WoO LMS traveler Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., in the final circuits. 090513_EldoraClanNewROSSBURG, OH – Sept. 5, 2013 – Jeep VanWormer of Pinconning, Mich., and Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., opened the newly expanded World 100 weekend with victories in Thursday night’s Twin 25-lap features at Eldora Speedway.

With the DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned event’s 112-car field split in half by time-trial results, VanWormer captured the caution-free first A-Main for odd-numbered qualifiers and Clanton added another flourish to his sparkling record at the Big E in the nightcap reserved for even-numbered qualifiers. Both drivers cashed $5,000 paychecks for their triumphs.

A fan favorite well known for his hard-charging style on the high-banked, half-mile Eldora oval, VanWormer vaulted from the third starting spot to the lead at the initial start of the first feature and never looked back. He led every lap of a race that was completed in just under seven-and-a-half minutes. (more…)

Twenty-four hours after dropping out of the weekend’s opening event due to an overheating engine, Lanigan stormed forward from the fourth starting spot to take the lead from Rick Eckert of York, Pa., on lap 14 and never looked back en route to his series-leading 10th win of the season.

Satterlee Opens World of Outlaws Late Model Series Doubleheader At Selinsgrove Speedway With Convincing Victory

Scores Second Career Win On National Tour Just One Month After His First

083113_Selinsgrove1VLSELINSGROVE, PA – Aug. 31, 2013 – It took Gregg Satterlee 85 tries to break into Victory Lane on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. He needed just five more starts to make his return to the national tour’s most exalted spot.

Almost exactly one month after registering his first-ever WoO LMS A-Main triumph Satterlee was back in the spotlight, rolling to a convincing win in Saturday night’s 40-lap ‘Showdown On Sand Hill’ at Selinsgrove Speedway.

Satterlee, 29, of Rochester Mills, Pa., was unbeatable in the opening leg of the inaugural WoO LMS doubleheader at the historic half-mile central Pennsylvania oval. He passed defending circuit champion Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., for the lead on lap 17 – a moment before Lanigan slowed with an overheating engine – and dominated the remainder of the distance to cash an $8,050 first-place check.

“I would’ve never thought we would’ve got one again this year,” said Satterlee, whose milestone first WoO LMS victory came on July 30 at Shawano (Wis.) Speedway. “It always hangs in the back of your mind – that once you get (a win), you can do it again – but I never would’ve dreamed that we would do it again this soon. This is just awesome.” (more…)

Richards Rolls To Satisfying World of Outlaws Late Model Series Victory At West Virginia Motor Speedway

Snaps Rare Win Drought On National Tour With Second Career Triumph At Track In Home State

083013WestVaMINERAL WELLS, WV – Aug. 30, 2013 – Josh Richards ended a rare World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory drought on Friday night, rolling to a convincing triumph in the 50-lap RaceFest A-Main at West Virginia Motor Speedway.

In winning for the second time this season at a track in his home state – after falling short of victory at West Virginia facilities for the first nine years of his racing career – the 25-year-old star from Shinnston, W.Va., snapped a nine-race winless stretch on the national tour. He also padded his WoO LMS points lead – an edge he actually continued to build with consistent finishes during his modest checkered-flag slump.

“It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve been in Victory Lane,” said Richards, whose eighth WoO LMS win of 2013 was his first since July 11 at Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba. “We’ve had some really good runs (over the past month-and-a-half), but we’ve just been lacking a little bit and we had a few races where we had stuff just not go our way. It definitely went our way tonight.” (more…)

Dale Hollidge Runs Race Of His Life To Score Upset Triumph In Raye Vest Memorial 50 At Winchester Speedway

Young Maryland Racer Reaches Victory Lane In First-Ever World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main Start

082413_WinchVLWINCHESTER, VA – Aug. 24, 2013 – Dale Hollidge lived a dream on Saturday night at Winchester Speedway.

Making the very first World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main start of his career, the 24-year-old driver from Mechanicsville, Md., drove to a stunning victory in the Raye Vest Memorial 50 Presented by Ernie D’s Enterprises.

Hollidge failed to grab the lead from the pole position at the initial green flag, but he relentlessly chased D.J. Myers of Greencastle, Pa., for more than half the caution-free race before finally grabbing the top spot on lap 39. He dominated the remainder of the distance, pulling away to score one of the biggest upsets in WoO LMS history.

The $10,550 triumph completed an amazing sweep of the racing program for Hollidge, who also set fast time and won a heat race. It was also his first-ever dirt Late Model win at the three-eighths-mile Winchester oval – which his mother, Denise, manages for track owner Greg Gunter – and just his fourth career victory overall in the full-fender division.

“I’ve been racing my whole life with my dad and everybody,” said Hollidge, who is in his fifth season of dirt Late Model racing. “But to win one of these races, you really don’t think about it, so when it happens it’s kind of a shock for you.” (more…)

Lanigan Captures Milestone 50th Career World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main At Little Valley Speedway

Survives Late Charge From Stone To Reach Victory Lane At New York Track For Second Consecutive Year

082213_LittleValVLLITTLE VALLEY, NY – Aug. 22, 2013 – Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., showed the fast way around Little Valley Speedway for the second consecutive year, leading all 50 laps of Thursdaynight’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main for his milestone 50th career win on the national tour.

But while Lanigan cruised alone out front for virtually the entire distance to score his series-leading ninth triumph of 2013, his final margin of victory was a slight 0.377 of a second. That’s because Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa., made a gallant late-race charge, overtaking both Rick Eckert of York, Pa., and Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., over the final seven circuits and closing within a car length of Lanigan at the checkered flag.

Richards settled for third place after starting from the pole position, maintaining his comfortable lead in the WoO LMS points standings with 11 races remaining on the schedule. The two-time series champion ended the night with a 62-point advantage over Lanigan, who moved past Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., for second in the title battle (more…)
