20130325-221753.jpgJP Stephens, SAYRE, AL–After two rainouts, Mother Nature finally decided to cooperate Saturday as the Southern Superstars enjoyed a perfect day of weather at Sayre. Twelve drivers showed up to start the 2013 season and to see who can knock Mark Day off his championship throne. The 2012 season was the most competitive in series history, with five drivers having a chance to win the points championship during the last race. The 2013 season looks to be even more competitive as the series will also hold races at Huntsville Speedway and Highland Rim Speedway which is located north of Nashville. Brad Lemley, who won three races and took home seven poles, said he will run the whole season as he looks to win the series title. Also new to the series in 2013 is B J Holley from Jackson, Georgia, and J R Bolden of Calera, Alabama.
Before the race, several drivers were recognized for their efforts in 2012. Hunter Spivey was awarded the B J Parker Sportsmanship Trophy which is named after the legendary Southern Superstars founder and long-time race promoter B J Parker. Everybody knows B J Parker’s name in NASCAR and short track racing, and Spivey said it was very humbling to be named the winner of such a special trophy. Madden Masters Southern All Stars Charles Trammell Memorial at Tazewell Speedway

20130325-221753.jpgTazewell, TN-April 6, 2013- The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series visited Tazewell Speedway for the first time since 2006 on Saturday evening and Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC would lead all 50 laps of the 4th Annual Charles Trammell Memorial en route to a $5,000 payday at the Gary Hall promoted East Tennessee speedplant.

Madden and Bryan Hendrix would bring the field to the green flag, only to see Hendrix slam the outside retaining wall in turn one to cause the first of seven caution periods that slowed the event.  A tangle between Steve Smith and Jason Trammell would slow the pace again after only 1 lap had been scored.  Back underway, Madden would show the way, while Tommy Kerr and Billy Ogle, Jr. battling for second, with Vic Hill fourth.  The front four would begin the process of working slower traffic and Madden would actually open a bit of a lead over Ogle, Jr., but a caution for an incident with Bo Shirley on the backchute slowed the pace.
This restart would see teammates Ogle, Jr. and Kerr trade slidejobs for the runner-up spot with Madden able to scoot away, with Mike Weeks and Stacey Boles now battling for fifth behind fourth place Hill.  Two more cautions as a Josh Henry flat slowed the contest and after Jason Hiett rolled to a stop in turn four on lap 31, fourth place Hill would see mechanical issues end his evening as he rolled pitside during the caution period.  Ogle, Jr. would challenge Madden repeatedly on restart and would roll under Madden on several occasions, but Madden would continue to lead the way.  Meanwhile, fifteenth starter Hunter Peacock would roll his way into the top five by the lap 37 for a slowed Steve Smith on the frontchute. 20130325-221753.jpg

MARYVILLE, TN (March 23, 2013)—Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA has become the only repeat winner in four races during the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series-sanctioned 103.5 WIMZ Rockin’ with the Stars event on Saturday Night March 23rd at Smoky Mountain Speedway.

This was Davenport’s second-straight SAS win as he picked up the $5,000 payday while driving the AES Racing, Mega Plumbing, EnCompass Solutions sponsored Clement’s Racing Engines powered Barry Wright Race Car. Davenport is now tied with Billy Ogle Jr., Randle Chupp and Jack Pennington on the all-time winner’s list with eight career victories.

Davenport, who lowered the current track record, started alongside Ray Cook for the start of the 40 lapper with Cook gaining the momentum on the start taking to the high side and the lead for the first eight circuits. Davenport would stay right with Cook then grab the lead coming to the ninth lap on the back chute underneath where Cook had gotten trapped behind a lapped car. As the laps were winding down in the main, Cook had begun to reel in Davenport and would have a great run going into turn three allowing him to get up behind him but the final yellow with just two laps to go wouldn’t be enough as Davenport pulled away on the single-file restart to claim the win.
