Planck wrestles lead from Dunn to take Super DIRTcar Series win at Autodrome Drummond

“The Natural” claims first series win with Mike Payne Racing

944523_529541173765879_2145063529_n“The Natural” Dale Planck, of Cortland, N. Y., wrestled the lead from Billy Dunn, of Watertown, N. Y., with 15 laps to go in Monday’s Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series feature, taking the win in a six-leader, 100-lap race.

“The car wasn’t quite what I wanted it to be early in the race,” said Planck, who, after drawing the 12th spot, had his work cut out for him just breaking the top five. “I was just hoping that later in the race it would come around, and, sure enough, at about lap 60 or 70, it just started rolling around the middle good.”

In the Mike Payne owned 7z, Planck charged forward late in the race, claiming second after a lap-79 caution took leader Haers to the pits. Haers’s was the fourth car of the race, after Steve Bernard’s, Matt Sheppard’s and Danny Johnson’s, to break while in the lead.

With Haers out of the race, Dunn inherited the lead and held on to it on the restart. Planck challenged for the lead in lap 82, and nearly claimed it, but another yellow in lap 82 slowed his momentum and brought the field back together.

Ever persistent, Planck charged forward on the restart, breaking through Dunn’s defense in lap 84 to claim the lead. (more…)

Rookie Corey LaJoie Wins Career-First ARCA Race at Chicagoland Speedway

628x471(JOLIET, Ill.) – Corey LaJoie led when it counted Sunday, winning the Ansell ActivArmr 150 at Chicagoland Speedway in just his second career ARCA start. LaJoie passed leaders Justin Boston and Josh Williams just before taking the white flag and sailed to his biggest career win.

“It just all worked out,” said the Richard Petty Motorsports development driver.

LaJoie, driving the No. 17 Sims Metal Management-Roulo Brothers Ford, led 36 of the first 52 laps. His team decided to pit on lap 80 for fuel and two tires, a strategy that worked in his favor when pole sitter Ryan Blaney ran out of fuel with seven laps to go and Boston appeared to do the same with two circuits left.

“With about 20 to go, Harold Holly (crew chief) said we were going to come in for fuel and tires and see if we can out smart them a little bit,” LaJoie said. “I came in to get tires. After that it was just all-out racing. (more…)

Owens fought hard for the $27,000 pay day, battling several drivers throughout the race. He took the lead for the final time on lap 56 when race leader Ryan Gustin fell out after hitting the turn one wall following a restart. Gustin had charged all the way from his 34th starting spot, to grab the lead on lap 47. The event was co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the Lucas Oil MLRA.

Tony Jackson, Jr. started 14th, and charged to a second place finish. Current LOLMDS point’s leader, John Blankenship came from 12th to take third ahead of Jason Feger and Billy Moyer.
