THOMAS WINS FIRST CHEVY SUPER SERIES RACE AT PENTON RACEWAY

thomasVLpen080213 (640x360)PENTON, AL – William Thomas of Phenix City, AL became the answer to a future trivia question on Friday night as he won the first-ever “Factory Backed and Factory Built” Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series 50-lap race at Penton Raceway featuring dirt late models powered by the LS production-based All-Aluminum Chevrolet Racing Engine.

Thomas swept the program driving the Alexander’s Industrial Service GRT to fast time honors in qualifying to earn the pole position for the main event, and then lead all 50 laps of the race to collect the $3,000 top prize.

National Dirt Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN finished second in the Tommy Pope Construction Warrior.  Johnson was able to get close to Thomas as he negotiated lapped traffic, but once the leader had clear race track in front of him, Thomas could pull away.

“It feels great to win this first race, but it didn’t feel good trying to get around some of the lapped cars,” Thomas said.  “My crew signaled me that I had a big lead, and I hated to give it up in lapped traffic, but it all worked out for us.” (more…)

Sheppard Drives To Convincing World of Outlaws Late Model Series Victory On Opening Night Of USA Nationals At Cedar Lake Speedway

DIRTcar Summer Nationals Champion Adds To Career Year With Triumph Over Richards

080113_CLSThursVLNEW RICHMOND, WI – Aug. 1, 2013 – The greatest summer of Brandon Sheppard’s life grew even better on Thursday night at Cedar Lake Speedway.

Building on the career-first DIRTcar Summer Nationals ‘Hell Tour’ title he clinched less than two weeks ago, Sheppard drove to a convincing $6,000 victory in the 40-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main that kicked off the 26th annual USA Nationals weekend.

Sheppard, 20, of New Berlin, Ill., started from the pole position and controlled the entire distance. He hammered his family-owned Rocket car around the top side of the high-banked, three-eighths-mile oval to register his second career WoO LMS triumph without receiving a single serious challenge.

“We’ve been working hard a lot of years, me and my dad (veteran racer Steve Sheppard Jr.), to try and accomplish that Summer Nationals deal,” said Sheppard, who became the youngest champion in the history of the famed ‘Hell Tour.’ “To finally do it was really uplifting for me. It was almost like a weight lifted off my shoulders. There’s not as much pressure now. We can go out there and know we can run with them all the time.” (more…)

Babb Tops McDowell & Pierce In Memorable Prairie Dirt Classic Battle To Finish At Fairbury American Legion Speedway

Illinois Star Thrills Packed House, Keeps $20,000 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Prize From Leaving State

072713_FairburyVLFAIRBURY, IL – July 27, 2013 – Shannon Babb battled and battled and battled…and finally came out on top of a Prairie Dirt Classic A-Main for the ages on Saturday night at Fairbury American Legion Speedway.

The 39-year-old star from Moweaqua, Ill., thrilled his home-state crowd, outdueling Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., and Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., down the stretch to win a 100-lap race that was arguably the most dramatic of the 2013 World of Outlaws Late Model Series campaign.

For a driver who since 2008 has tried so hard – but continually fallen just short – to score a signature WoO LMS triumph in the Illini 100 at nearby Farmer City Raceway, mastering another bullring in his backyard to the tune of a $20,050 first-place check holds extra significance.

“This ranks right up there with the Illini 100 to me,” said Babb, who previously won the Prairie Dirt Classic in 2002 and 2006. “Twenty-grand (to win a dirt Late Model race) right here in Illinois is unheard of, and I’m just tickled to death (to win it). (more…)

Jimmy Owens Gets Win at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex

Lucas LogoMARKLEYSBURG, PA (July 26, 2013) – Jimmy Owens dominated the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event on Friday Night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex. Owens took the lead at the start of the 50-lap main event and went unchallenged for the $10,000 pay day. Owens’ sixth series win of the season vaulted him back on top of the Lucas Oil Championship Points Standings.

Jeremy Miller had his best career LOLMDS finish, taking home second place. Steve Francis was third followed Earl Pearson, Jr. and Eddie Carrier, Jr.

“The crew has been working their tails off lately. We gambled on tires and the car was good all night. We qualified a lot better, which allowed us to win our heat race. We got some timely cautions out there and lapped traffic was not a factor for us tonight,” said the 2-time and defending LOLMDS champion. “I have to thank my car owner Mike Reece; he just bought us a new truck and trailer. I’ve got to give a special thanks to Reece Monument Company, Gantte Appraisals, Hypercoil Springs, Sunoco, Red Line Oil, and Ohlins.” (more…)

374470_10200134207025835_568701276_nWayne Anderson picked up win number six for The Powell Family Memorial 125 and #6 for the FUPS Season this past Saturday at Citrus Co. Speedway. Starting in the tenth position after a slower qualifying speed than he had posted all day in practice, he found the right set up to take the lead on lap 53 of the 125 lap event. Anderson was challenged by Brooksville’s Daniel Webster who dogged him right up to the final lap with some of the best racing seen all year.
To say Anderson was pleased with the outcome would be an understatement. “I feel like I took a 5th place car and won with it tonight. Once I got out front, I just took his line away from him.” Anderson said, When asked about his performance to date in the 2013 FUPS Late Models, Anderson seemed beside himself, “Man… 6 (wins) out of 7 and a second… I just can’t even explain how tough this is to do. When asked about racing Webster for the win, Anderson went on to say, “That team has a lot to be proud of and Daniel has turned into a great racer. Every one of these FUPS races we come to I know I’m going to be racing him for the win.” (more…)

Pittman Charges to Victory over Schatz at Rolling Wheels

Points leader earns eighth World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car win of 2013

072313_RWR_VLELBRIDGE, N.Y. – July 23, 2013 – Daryn Pittman swept into the lead on a restart just one lap into Tuesdaynight’s World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series main event at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park and held off Donny Schatz on another restart three laps from the checkers to earn his eighth victory of the season.

Pittman, the championship points leader, was on the inside of row two for the start behind pole-sitter Chad Kemenah and Schatz when he slipped past Schatz and into second when two separate incidents brought out a caution with only one lap complete. On the ensuing double-file restart another caution waved, leaving Chad Kemenah to choose once again which lane would propel him back to the lead.

Kemenah tried the outside lane, but Pittman got a great jump and held his lead as they raced into turn one. Kemenah and Schatz jockeyed for the second spot before Schatz cleared Kemenah exiting turn two on lap nine but the caution flew again, allowing Kemenah to retain his position before he exited the track for an overheating motor that would end his night.
