Owens took the lead from Duane Chamberlain just past the half-way mark and went on to win his third career Ralph Latham Memorial Race sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Darrell Lanigan, who builds the Club 29 Race Cars out of his shop just a few miles from the race track finished second to Owens followed by Don O'Neal, Scott Bloomquist, and John Blankenship.

"The car was just rolling," said the winner who has now captured three of out the last four LOLMDS events. "I was thankful they went out and re-did the bottom of the race track. Starting seventh, I felt a little bit better at my chances. The fans here always get to see a good show. He (Chamberlain) was running the top and I decided I could run the low line better during the mid-part of the race. Once I got by him, I moved back to the top. Last week we moved to the bottom and it kind of bit us."

Owens Overtakes Bloomquist to Win Toyota Knoxville 50

10330232_10152071669457015_5417733051147573532_nTAZEWELL, TN (May 30, 2014) – In a classic battle between two Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champions, Jimmy Owens and Scott Bloomquist, Owens emerged victorious over Bloomquist Friday night at Tazewell Speedway.  Owens passed Bloomquist on the 36th lap and then sailed away for his second series win of the season in front of a huge crowd at the Toyota Knoxville 50.

Bloomquist led the first 36 laps of the event until he got trapped behind a lapped car and Owens swept by him on the outside coming off of turn number four.  Bloomquist then had to hold off hard-charging Chris Madden to finish second.  Current series point’s leader, Don O’Neal came home fourth, followed by 2-time track champion, Billy Ogle, Jr.

“The car was just great all night,” said the driver of the Club 29 Chassis owned by Mike Reece. “”The race got off to a rough start; I think it was a little bit slimy down low there in one and two, and when I saw Scott catch the traffic, I figured I might as well go in harder in turns three and four up top. It worked out for us!  It has been a long day, my mom had surgery this morning, and they may have to re-do it again tomorrow, so my thoughts are with her.”

Jimmy Owens Earns First Win of the Season at LaSalle Speedway

Jimmy OwensLa Salle, IL (May 17, 2014) – The 3-time and defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Jimmy Owens scored his first series win of the season on Saturday Night at LaSalle Speedway. Owens survived a classic side-by-side battle with Jared Landers after over taking Scott Bloomquist for second. Owens then tracked down race leader Landers and forged ahead for good on lap 37. Owens then pulled away to a comfortable lead to take the Spring Shootout victory. Trailing Owens and Landers to the finish line were, Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson Jr., and Don O'Neal

"I can't say enough about this car. The last few races, we've been solid, and tonight we were finally able to get to victory lane. I want to thank the track crew, it's good to see a track promoter take the time and rework the track. With all the rain they had this week, they smoothed it out and you could run anywhere on it," said Owens, who became the 12th different winner in 15 event races this year.

"Landers was tough tonight. He drove a very good race, and we ran side-by-side there for several laps. I hope it was a good show for the fans tonight. We got off to a rough start in the feature, but we were able to settle down. Scott [Bloomquist] and I had a really good battle for second. He'd get by me, then the next lap I'd get him back. It was just a great night for our Mike Reece team and all of our sponsors. We feel like we are hitting our stride now," said the winner afterwards.
