Richards Battles Track and Field in Carolina Speedway Win

Claims Win No. 63 in Series’ First Appearance at Carolina Speedway

043016CarolinaVLGASTONIA, N.C. – April 29, 2016 – Josh Richards battled from an eighth place starting position and through tough track conditions and cautions on Friday night at Carolina Speedway as he claimed the inaugural World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series win at the track.

“We were able to survive,” said Richards, who took home the $10,000 purse. “We had a great car there. It was starting to get rough off Turn 4, but I want to thank all the fans for coming out. It’s great to come out with a win.”

Challenging track conditions proved to be a test for the 24 drivers that started the A-Main – in the 50-lap feature, there were 12 cautions with eight drivers finishing on the lead lap. A caution on Lap 24 allowed drivers to replenish their tear-off visor sheets, making track visibility less of a struggle through the remainder of the race.

Some of those earlier cautions however, made way for Richards to eventually claim the lead position on the restarts. Richards started eighth.

“That was the biggest thing: trying to find a clean spot,” said Richards about finding a favorable groove. “Once you got up on somebody, you couldn’t see anything. It was just a matter of trying to be smooth. You were forced to move around a little bit.” (more…)

Scores Super DIRTcar Series Win in First Series Outing for New Car Owner Mike Payne

043016SDSFultonBy Mike Mallett, FULTON, N.Y. – April 30, 2016 – It didn’t take long for the new combination of Billy Decker and car owner Mike Payne to find their way to victory lane on the Super DIRTcar Series trail. The duo joined forces over the winter and their first series event together was Saturday’s Highbank Holdup at the Fulton Speedway. Just like he’s done so many times in the past, Decker worked the bottom of the speedway methodically to first get the lead and then to brush off attacks from Tim Fuller in the final laps to secure the win in the 100-lap event.

“I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you I really wanted to win this race,” said an excited Decker afterwards. “I had to cut my old buddy Fuller off there on the backstretch to get it done. My car didn’t fire too good on the restarts. I have to thank Mike Payne Racing. This is awesome. It is our third race together and there are good things to come. I’m tickled to be here. This was a lot of fun.” (more…)

Sweet Scores Five On Late Race Pass at Bakersfield

Red Flags and Flared Tempers Color Series Return After 11-Year Absence

041516SweetBakersfieldPostBAKERSFIELD, Calif. – April 15, 2016 – Brad Sweet claimed his fifth World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season through red flags and flared tempers at Bakersfield Speedway on Friday night.
Sweet, who passed Joey Saldana on a late restart in the Budweiser Bash feature, tied Donny Schatz for the most wins on the season.
“It seemed like every time the race started getting good the caution came out,” Sweet said. “The track was getting really really tricky but in great racing shape… It’s awesome. We got a great start to the season, my guys behind me have given me great cars all throughout the year. Can’t thank them enough. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”
Daryn Pittman, who was forced to change an engine earlier in the night, led the field to the green flag as the Outlaws returned to Bakersfield for the first time since 2005. Jason Johnson battled early for the lead but Saldana charged forward.
By lap nine, Pittman worked his way through traffic as Saldana closed the gap and began to challenge for the top spot. As the two drivers completed the next lap, Saldana pulled side-by-side with Pittman in his No. 83 Roth Motorsports car off of turn two, down the back straight and into turns three and four. Pittman took on the high side as Saldana stayed wheel-to-wheel with Pittman through the middle. In the middle of three, Saldana and Pittman made contact sending Pittman into the cushion which caused Pittman’s car to tumble into the turn four catch fence. (more…)
