Scott Bloomquist Bests Outlaws in Mountain Outlaw 50 Win

Richards and Madden Battle Side-by-Side the Entire Race

050716_SmokyMt_GraphicMARYVILLE, Tenn.– May 7, 2016 – Scott Bloomquist stole the show Saturday night, winning The Mountain Outlaw 50 at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Bloomquist joins Dale McDowell and Willie Milliken as non-series opponents to beat the full time World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series drivers, a streak that is now extended to three-straight race weekends.

But Bloomquist is also in good company within the series. The former World of Outlaws wheelman captured his 29th win in the series, tying him for sixth all-time – it is his first series win in 2016. Bloomquist won the event last season.

“We’ve been working pretty hard here,” said Bloomquist, who started third. “We tried a lot of different stuff. Last year we had a good year, but not quite what we really wanted. Fortunately, it forces you to get to work.”

Bloomquist began the 50-lap feature on the inside and seldom left the most-inner groove. It was not until lap 9 when Bloomquist’s No. 0 Crop Production Services/ Reese Monument Co. machine made its way toward the lead. Bloomquist, who secured the bottom line, undertook Josh Richards for second place. Richards fell to fourth the next lap, while Bloomquist used lapped traffic to bypass leader Casey Roberts, to take the number-one spot. (more…)

Kerry Madsen Sweeps #LetsRaceTwo Weekend at Eldora

For the Second Night in a Row, Chad Kemenah Finds Himself in Second

050716EldoraPostGraphicROSSBURG, Ohio – May 7, 2016 – It was déjà vu at Eldora Speedway Saturday night, as Friday’s battle between Kerry Madsen and Chad Kemenah seemed to play out again in front of a large crowd at the #LetsRaceTwo finale.

After a pitched battle through the middle and late portions of the feature between the former Outlaw regular Madsen and All Star Circuit of Champions driver Kemenah, Madsen claimed his second World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season and the weekend sweep.

“We’ve been quick all year and we just haven’t showcased it. The guys just stepped it up – the car was a rocket ship all weekend,” Madsen said. “Just to get this up here the last two nights is fantastic. It was a hell of a race.”

Madsen battled from fourth in the Dash to share the front row with Daryn Pittman for the feature. As the green flag fell on the 30-lap main event the two drivers engaged in a multi-lap back and forth. By lap two, Madsen was able to get breathing room from Pittman and pull away.

As Madsen began to run down traffic, the battles heated up behind him. Joey Saldana worked for a line around David Gravel for fourth. As the field worked it’s way around, Saldana threw a slider in turns three and four. As he drifted off the turn at the exit of four, contact was made between he and Gravel that sent Saldana tumbling. The crash ended Saldana’s night. (more…)

All Star Regular Chad Kemenah Scores Second Place Finish after Battle with Madsen

050716EldoraVLGraphicROSSBURG, Ohio – May 6, 2016 – Kerry Madsen dominated Friday night’s #LetsRaceTwo opener at Eldora Speedway as he bested his former World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series colleagues and beat back a challenge from All Star Circuit of Champions regular Chad Kemenah to score his first series win since August 2015.

Madsen was on a mission in the night’s feature, after starting on the pole in his No. 29 Keneric Health car, he was the class of the field. Kemenah, who charged forward from a 10th place starting position, got within one half second at one point, but was never able to make the pass on the Aussie.

“I’ve never ran a race out there where it was so slow out there – not typically our strong suit,” Madsen said. “So the guys worked so hard on the car all night. The car was unbelievable. Just couldn’t be happier with the win.”

After winning the Dash, Madsen joined reigning series champion Donny Schatz on the front row of the 30-lap feature. As main event kicked off, Madsen jumped out to sizable early lead as Kemenah began his run forward. He very quickly picked off several cars and by lap one was in sixth. By lap two, he was in fourth. JUNCTION CITY, Ky. – May 6, 2016 – Shane Clanton claimed his third World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series victory of the season under Friday night’s Ponderosa Speedway lights, winning the 24th-annual “Kentucky Klassic.”

“Well, just catching those lapped cars, I was able to get in better position in the corners,” Clanton said. “I knew if I got up against that berm, I could go down the straight-away and it would be difficult for someone to pass me.”

On the first lap, Clanton used the outside groove to wheel his No. 25 Weldbank Energy/Coopers Meat Packers Capital machine into the No. 1 spot. He thereon led the remainder of the race. This is the defending points champion’s first win since Feb. 20 at DIRTcar Nationals in Barbersville, Fla.

“I think our car had a good balance as choppy as the track was,” said Clanton, who first dealt with lapped cars on Lap 9. “If you got a good balance, you don’t upset your car when you go over the holes. Our car is so balanced right now it could go wherever you want it to go.” (more…)

Gus Dean Wins ARCA Thriller at Talladega

Gus DeanTALLADEGA, Ala. (April 29, 2016) – Bluffton, South Carolina rookie Gus Dean had just enough momentum to inch ahead of Josh Williams when it counted most to win the action-packed General Tire 200 Friday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway.
Dean, in the No. 98 GREE-Cab Installers Chevrolet, powered ahead of Williams down the backstretch just as the final caution came out for a multi-car crash behind the leaders. With weather approaching, accompanied by lightning, series officials put a period on the race two laps shy of the intended finish. The margin of victory – about two feet.
It was quite a turn-around for Dean, who was part of a multi-car wreck in the opening laps at Daytona, his only other ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards start.
“For such a build up to that race at Daytona…it was such a heartbreak to go out that way,” Dean said.
“I’m just so grateful for my sponsors GREE and Cab Installers. They took a chance on me and allowed me to come back and take another shot at this. I can’t thank Mason Mitchell Motorsports enough. No one is more meticulous when it comes to building race cars…piece by piece…he’s such a pro. It’s such a privilege to have a past ARCA champion as my driver coach. He’s really helped me through the learning process.”
When the race was over, both Dean and Williams circled the speedway side by side while series officials determined who was ahead at the exact moment the caution lights came on. (more…)

Milliken Masters Tar Heel 100 Sweep

Brian Shirley Battles for a Second Place Finish

043016_FMSFayetteville, N.C. – April 30, 2016 – Former Hope Mills, N.C. resident Willie Milliken has logged thousands of laps at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. But the 50 laps he led during Saturday night’s World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series Tarheel 100 met something more to him.

“We have a good piece,” said Milliken about his No. 1M MJ Price Construction Co./ Longhorn Chassis car. “We don’t get to showcase it all the time. [The win] was just getting on the gas, the car would take it and it would go.”

This win was Milliken’s seventh late model start ever – his first with the Outlaws. He takes home not only the $10,000 purse, but also the pleasure of finishing first in each of his events. Milliken was the Fast Timer of the night (16.740), won his heat race, pulled the No. 1 on the redraw and led every lap of the A-Main.

Brian Shirley, who finished runner-up to Milliken, said there was no stopping him. Shirley used the two-car-lengths between him and Milliken to remain in the lower groove until Milliken made a mistake late in the race; it was not the case here.

“I don’t know the guy who won, but congratulations to him,” Shirley said. “I know how cool it is to win a race this big.” (more…)
