Shane Clanton Wins Billy Clanton Classic At Senoia

Shane ClantonSENOIA, GA–The Southern All Star Dirt racing Series returned to the Senoia Raceway Saturday night for the first time since 1987 and before a standing room only crowd Shane Clanton of Zebulon, GA., took the win worth $5.125.

Clanton made it two for two in the race that honored his late father Billy, who also competed with the Southern All Stars back in the day. Clanton worked his way past three time and current Southern All Star points champion riley Hickman of Cleveland, TN., with 10 laps to go as late race cautions hurt Hickman and allowed Clanton to run him down.

Hickman moved into the lead at the start over Mason Massey of Douglasville, GA., for the 50 lap feature and built a huge lead while the rest of the drivers battled three and four wide, with four time Southern All Star champion Clint Smith stepping up and looking to be the man as he went to the high side and work the top groove and took the lead from Hickman on lap 14, but Hickman did not let that last long as he took it back on lap 15 as Smith’s tires started to fade.

Then Chase Junghans from Manhattan, KS. was next to make the challenge to Hickman as he did like Smith and use the top groove to run down Hickman, but he then got into a battle with Frank Heckenast Jr of Frankfort, IL., and the two were slowed by cautions that cooled down their tires and took them out of contention. Nemechek Wins Second Straight Champion Racing Oil “Master of the Pros” 144

img_5737e6f05b138-720x415Salem, IN. (May 15, 2016) – John Hunter Nenechek left no doubt that he has mastered Lebanon I-44 Speedway Saturday night, when he won his second straight Champion Racing Oil “Masters of the Pros” 144, one of the top Pro/Crate Late Model events in the country sanctioned by the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. Saturday night’s win was not as easy as last years, as fellow North Carolina native Trevor Noles battled Nemechek over the last 36 laps, swapping the lead a couple of times before Nemechek managed to pull away on the final green, white, checker restart to get the win.

“I really love this place, the track, the fans and this event is just awesome”, remarked Nemechek in victory lane. “I have to thank my crew for all the hard work and my dad for working out the plans to get me here to be able to race and get the win today.” (more…)

Gravel Defeats Non-Outlaws in Barn Burner at Tri-State Speedway

Holds Off Challenges from Brady Bacon and Parker Price-Miller for Second Win of the Season

051416_Tri-State_Graphic_edited-1HAUBSTADT, Ind. – May 14, 2016 – David Gravel utilized his speed, and a touch of luck, Saturday night as he clawed his way around pole-sitter Kerry Madsen on the opening lap of the feature, then held off another non-Outlaw, Brady Bacon, in the closing laps to score his second World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

Gravel controlled the top spot for all 40-laps, but his victory did not come easily, as he had to battle through lapped traffic while also trying to hold off a hard charging Bacon for the win.

“The CJB Motorsports car is obviously pretty good here after Paul [McMahan] won the two years previously, so I had to back that up,” Gravel said. “Hopefully, this leads to more wins to come and a great season.”

When the checkered flag fell, three non-Outlaws drivers: Bacon, Parker Price-Miller and Kerry Madsen held top-five finishing positions. Series regulars, Gravel, and seven-time series champion Donny Schatz, held the other two spots.

“This place – I guess my adrenaline pumps extra hard when we are here – I was just trying to get to the front,” Bacon, a non-Outlaws driver who finished second said. “I am disappointed we didn’t get there, but I’m just thrilled to have another good run. It’s been a good year in the winged car and a good year in everything so far, so hopefully I can keep it up and maybe we can steal one somewhere else.” (more…)

Bloomquist Takes Buckeye Nationals Victory at Atomic Speedway

Bloomer at AtomicWAVERLY, OH (May 14, 2016) – Scott Bloomquist took the lead on lap 48 from Brandon Sheppard and then held off the field in a three-lap dash to the finish to win in the Buckeye Nationals Saturday Night at Atomic Speedway.   Bloomquist earned $50,000 for his fourth Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season.

Jonathan Davenport came home in second and maintains his series points lead. Josh Richards was third after starting 15th. In his first appearance in ten years at Atomic, Chris Madden was fourth, and 12th-starting Dennis Erb Jr. edged out Steve Francis at the finish line for fifth.

“We’re pretty satisfied with this car, to say the least. We’ve only run this car twice. Those guys [Sheppard and Davenport]; they drive hard and they make you work for it,” said the winner, who took his third LOLMDS victory in the last four events.

An exciting first half of the race saw Sheppard lead the initial lap. Madden then took over the point until Bloomquist grabbed the lead on lap seven. Bloomquist then held the point until the crowd came to its feet when Sheppard darted out front on lap 16.

Sheppard and Bloomquist then set a torrid pace, pulling away from third place running Madden, and the rest of the pack. Jimmy Owens got up to fourth and was challenging Madden for third when mechanical issues struck, ending his night. (more…)

All Star Haudenschild Shines Kelley Wires Stocks; Schaffer Parks It

HaudenschildSarver, PA (May 13, 2016) Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild had been fast all evening long in the Arctic Cat All Star Sprint portion of the card at Lernerville Speedway on Friday night. So it was no surprise that he found himself leading the 30-lap $5,000-to-win feature. What was also not surprising was the fact that former Track Champion Danny Holtgraver, and the red hot Chad Kemenah were stalking him through a jungle of lapped traffic that saw both of them catch and almost overtake him for the lead. But the young wheel man seemingly had an answer every time he needed it most as he weaved his way to a couple of critical passes through the lapped traffic en route to his first victory of the season and first career Lernerville win.
“It was a great track tonight,” Haudenschild said in Dlubak Powder Coatings Victory Lane. “Sometimes you just have to get into that dash and start up front with those guys and I knew if we could get up there, especially with this track it would be great. I had a blast running the top for 30 laps; that was fun! Shaffer was really good in the beginning and I got under him and he went over the berm and then me and the 10H (Kemenah) had a really good race and I saw Holtgraver was there and I knew they’d be coming so I just had to hit my marks and be good.” (more…)

Sweet Surges for Inaugural Plymouth Speedway Win

Picks Up Series-Leading Sixth World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series Victory of the Season

051316_Plymouth_Graphic_edited-1PLYMOUTH, Ind. – May 13, 2016 – Brad Sweet captured the lead from pole-sitter Joey Saldana early, then held off a challenge from teammate Daryn Pittman late in the race to claim the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series inaugural race at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway Friday night.

Sweet’s victory, his first since Bakersfield Speedway on April 15, is his sixth of the season which breaks a tie with seven-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz for most in 2016.

“Typically, I’m not that great on these quarter-mile tracks, but for whatever reason, this year with this package we built it seems we are better on the short tracks but need to get better on the half-miles,” Sweet said. “That’s part of racing – you’re always searching and trying to find things. It’s great to get another win under our belts and build momentum.”

The Grass Valley, Calif. -native was never able to build a large lead during the 30-lap feature as he had to fight around Saldana early, then fend off tonight’s quick-time Logan Schuchart during the middle stages of the race, and finally hold off Pittman at the end for the win.

“It was a great effort by our Great Clips team – congrats to Brad, he did a heck of a job,” Pittman said. “We have been running good, just have a lot of second place finishes and we want a win. Kale [Kahne] and Michelle had their baby boy on Tuesday so that was a pretty awesome week for them, just would’ve liked to get them a win.” (more…)
