Bloomquist Takes Grassy Smith Memorial at Cherokee Speedway

2016news_7-8GAFFNEY, SC (July 8, 2016) – Scott Bloomquist won his third straight Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event on Friday Night at Cherokee Speedway by leading all but one lap of the main event. After a 4-hour rain delay, the standing room only crowd saw Bloomquist take the win in the Grassy Smith Memorial, also marking his 70th career LOLMDS win.

Casey Roberts came home in second, followed by Johnny Pursley, Brandon Sheppard, and 18th-starting Jonathan Davenport.

Chris Madden managed to lead lap 18, marking the only lead change throughout the long battle between himself and Bloomquist. Madden took the lead in heavy traffic much to the pleasure of his home-track crowd, but under the ensuing caution Madden’s right rear tire went flat and he was forced to pit. He never returned to the track.

“I know we have finished later at some tracks,” said the winner after the race that ended at about 3:20 am local time. “At the start, I kind of just settled in on the bottom. I really couldn’t see where the cushion was. I think we were still fast enough and could have gotten it done.” (more…)

Schuchart Gets First with Cedar Lake Win

Joins Bill Balog as the Only Other First Time Winner, So Far, in 2016

070916CedarLakeVLNEW RICHMOND, Wisc. – July 8, 2016 – It was not easy but Logan Schuchart did what he had to Friday night at Cedar Lake Speedway to score his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory as he battled past Joey Saldana and held off Donny Schatz to win the FVP Outlaws at Cedar Lake.

Schuchart, who started the feature on the front row with Shane Stewart, jumped out to the lead early but succumbed to Joey Saldana’s charge on a lap seven restart. Schuchart battled back as the two drivers worked their way through traffic and despite strong advances from Donny Schatz late, Schuchart held tough.

“I’m proud of our team. We’ve gotten close a couple of times and I can tell the disappointment when we come back,” Schuchart said. “I told everybody, ‘we’re going to get one of these after a while.’ You know how hard it is racing with the Outlaws and how difficult it is every night, but I believed we were going to get it done and sooner or later it was going to start clicking.

“I promised my little brother, two years ago, he said, ‘how come you don’t win anymore?’ I said, ‘well, what do you want me to do? The next time I win, I’m going to stand on the wing.’ He said, ‘alright.’ So tonight, I had to fulfill that promise to my little brother. That felt great.” (more…)

Clanton Clobbers Field for Fifth Win

Richards Charges to Second-Place Finish from Ninth

070816_Mason_CityMASON CITY, Iowa – July 8, 2016 – Shane Clanton was stronger than stone Friday night, dominating The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series 50-lap feature at Mason City Motor Speedway. Clanton not only solidified his fifth win of the season, but also tied Rick Eckert for fourth all time in career wins (35) in the series.

“Oh man, that car was good,” Clanton said. “It’s pretty special right now. It was a good win here that eluded me the last time I was here [in 2004]. I went a little hard on the tire [then], but tonight we ran a little softer than everyone else, and it was pretty good.”

Clanton, the series defending champion, rose to the top of the track as the green flag waved-on the 24-car field. Within a half of a lap, he reeled-in Eckert with his No. 25 Weldbank Energy/ Coopers Meat Packers Capital car. The long 1/2-mile oval lent enough room for Clanton to separate himself from the pack lap-by-lap. By lap nine in a caution-free feature, Clanton was 2.402 seconds away.

As Eckert began to fade, other drivers took advantage. Eric Wells, who captured his first podium finish the night before, replaced Eckert for the second position. Chad Simpson, following behind Wells in his No. 25s Liebe Trucking/  GATR Truck Center Victory Circle car, followed suit.  By lap 15, the podium was spaced by more than one-second between the trio of drivers. Standerfer led early, but through two cautions he first had Rhodes on his bumper, looking for a way around on the high side and then Kissinger, battling side-by-side through the middle portion of the race. Standerfer moved from the bottom to the top side and through cautions and traffic managed to keep Kissinger at bay.

“We kept getting them yellows, getting them yellows and I kept thinking, come on!” Standerfer said. “This has been a dream come true.”

Brad Sweet Has a Good Night at Badlands Motor Speedway

Chips Away at Donny Schatz’s Points Lead

070216BadlandsPostBRANDON, S.D. – July 2, 2016 – Brad Sweet led early and led often at Badlands Motor Speedway on Saturday night as he found luck and persevered to score his seventh World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

Sweet, who took the checkered flag at the track for the first time in his career, lost the lead to Rico Abreu on lap 10. When Abreu got too low on the track and caught a tire barrier sending him flipping on to the front straight, Sweet regained the lead. Through a couple of close calls, it was smooth sailing to the end.

Sweet’s win is his first since May 13 at Plymouth Speedway.

“It feels good. This team needed that win – we’ve been in a bit of a slump,” Sweet said. “We just haven’t been able to compete for wins over the last 10 or 15 races. We started out the season really strong and then kind of fell off there. So it’s nice to get back to victory lane and give these guys some confidence.” (more…)

Bloomquist Takes Third Straight Lucas Oil Win at Portsmouth

Bloomquist at PortsmouthPORTSMOUTH, OH (July 2, 2016) Scott Bloomquist rolled to his third straight Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory at Portsmouth Raceway Park on Saturday Night. In front of a massive crowd, Bloomquist led all 60 laps of the Independence 60, and now holds a 20-point lead over Jonathan Davenport in the Lucas Oil Championship Standings.

Jared Landers came from seventh to finish second in the Lance Landers Motorsports/Crop Production Services/Sweet-Bloomquist entry. Steve Francis finished third in the Optima Batteries/Tim Logan Racing/Black Diamond Chassis. Completing the top five were Tim McCreadie and former track champion, Rod Conley.

“Everyone has to be pretty tired after driving back home from a race in Kentucky last night. We tore the whole right side of the body off the car last night, so we went back to get this one ready. We have got two good cars now. This is the car I wanted to run here to get ready for the DTWC later this year,” said Bloomquist in Lucas Oil Victory Lane.

“I think we are pretty happy with where we are at. I didn’t realize until later that we broke the track record in qualifying. This car can just get around this track so well. It was good to see Jared come in second. I wasn’t worried with that caution with two laps to go. It was getting a little difficult to pass.” (more…)
