Top Gun Sprints Race Recap

The Top Gun Sprints made their second visit of 2011 to Bubba Raceway Park on Saturday September 17, 2011. There were 21 cars at the track to give fans three heat races and a 25 lap feature race.

Gene Lasker in the 02 car had the pole with Brandon Grubaugh in the 9 on the outside for the start of the SIMPSON heat race. On the start Gene and Brandon sled together and Gene came to a stop on the back stretch. That put Scott Adema in the 67 on the pole and Gene had to start in the rear. The winner of first heat was Brandon Grubaugh. The 41 of Stephen Darvalics had the pole for the ROD END SUPPLY heat race, with Danny Martin in the 24 car on the outside. It was the 24 that made the better start and took the second heat win. Darren Orth in the 34 car had the pole with A.J. Maddox in the 3A for the start of the WELD RACING heat race. After all the passing it was Robbie Smith in the 6S that took the lead and the heat win.

The 4C of Tyler Godwin had the pole for the start of the K&N feature race event, with the 42 of Tim Grabaugh alongside. After a parade lap, the race went to green and it was Tyler Godwin in the 4C car that took the lead. Then 83 tangled with another car and the 83 was done with damage. On the next complete restart Gene Lasker flipped in turn four fence brought out the red. On the next restart had 3 cars spin in turn 1 after the clean up the next complete restart was a single file start. After a caution restart it was Tyler Godwin out front till lap 14 he went high in turn 1 and flipped brought out the red. On the restart it was Danny Martin out front and never looked backed and took the checkered flag, followed by Matt Kurtz  in the 92 car, Robbie Smith in the 6S car, A J Maddox in the 3A car and Stephen Darvalics in the 41 car rounding out the top 5.

Scott Bloomquist wins Lucas Oil Late Models Dirt Series USA 100 at Virginia Motor Speedway

JAMAICA, VA (September 18, 2011) – Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN took the lead for good on the 24th lap from Steve Francis of Ashland, KY. He went on to win the rain-shortened Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned USA 100 on Sunday afternoon at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Bloomquist and Francis staged a terrific race for the lead in the first 24 laps of the race until Bloomquist began to pull away. Rain then hit the track and the main event was halted with 31 laps complete. Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN was third followed by Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN and Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD.

Francis grabbed the lead at the start with Bloomquist and Steve Shaver in tow. Francis held the lead for most of the race with Bloomquist edging ahead of him on lap seven. Francis quickly charged back by Bloomquist for the lead. The two continued a side-by-side battle with Francis leading the way until lap 24 when Bloomquist passed him exiting turn four in traffic. Bloomquist Banks 12th Lucas Oil Series Win of 2011 at Winchester

WINCHESTER, VA (September 16,2011) – Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN picked up his 12th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the year on Friday Night at Winchester Speedway. He captured the $10,000 in the Verizon Wireless 50. Bloomquist took the lead on lap eight from Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA and then had to fight off several challenges from Jimmy Owens to take the win.

Bloomquist closed to within ten points of Owens, who faded to 16th at the finish with a left front flat tire. McDowell finished second followed by new track record holder; Ronnie DeHaven Jr.of Winchester, VA; 16th starting Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; and Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH. (more…)

This week-end the Top Gun Sprint Car Series will run their 2nd of 6 features at Bubba Raceway Park in 2011. Alongside the Top Gun Sprints are the UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds, Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks for $750, Gladiators, and the return of the Sportsman class!

The Top Gun Sprint Car Series returns to Bubba Raceway Park and Danny Martin is the points leader, however he is 2nd in the Bubba Raceway Park points. Tyler Godwin, currently 14th in the Top Gun points, is the points leader, and only feature winner, for the Top Gun Sprint Cars at Bubba Raceway Park. Tim George is 50 points behind Martin in the Top Gun points and will do all he can to make them up. Mark Ruel, Jr., Terry Witherspoon, and Jimmy Ballew, Jr. round out the top 5 in the Top Gun Sprint Cars points. (more…)

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Visits the Commonwealth State of Virginia This Weekend

WAYCROSS, GA (September 12, 2011) – After a weekend off the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series returns for it’s first of five consecutive weekends to wrap up the 2011 season starting this Friday and Saturday, September 16th and 17th in the state of Virginia.

On Friday Night the LOLMDS will visit Greg Gunter’s Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA for the “Gunter’s Honey 50” paying $10,000 to win and on Saturday Night will take a trip to Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA for the 32nd Annual “USA 100:” paying $15,000 to win. There will be a complete show with Red Buck Cigar Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and the Feature Event both nights. (more…)

The Sunoco U.D.L.M.C.S. shakes it up for “The 4th Annual The Kim Allen Memorial” at The Hendry County Motorsports Park

The racing action heats up as The Sunoco United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series rolls into the Southern most dirt track in the united states for “The 4th Annual The Kim Allen Memorial” Saturday September the 17th at The Hendry County Motorsports Park. The series prepares for the their 1st double points race ever. With all the rain outs this year the drivers points standings are unbelievable close with a 3 way tie right now for the third spot.

Rookie Trucks added to Pro-Truck Triple Crown

Orlando FL – 8-17-11 – The “Save the Trucks” Pro-Truck Triple Crown will now also have a three race series for the rookie trucks.

Event organizer Rick Bristol, in cooperation with Auburndale Speedway, Orlando Speedworld and Desoto Speedway, announced today an addition to the series.

“The young drivers from Punta Gorda Speedway, the already competing rookie trucks at both Auburndale and Desoto Speedway’s are invited to compete for their own Triple Crown Championship. There will not be a purse for these three events, Trophy only. They will however receive points in the same manor as the Pro-Trucks for there three races. They will have a Champion who will receive a champions shirt, and other possible contingencies may be announced.

They will qualify and run before the Pro-Trucks at each event. This is for the young drivers and the drivers with little experience that are already been competing in in the events of 2011 at the tracks mentioned. If you have questions of approval please call Rick Bristol 407-497-0448.

Commentary

The Top Gun Sprints made their first visit of 2011 to Bubba Raceway Park on Saturday July 16, 2011. There were 25 cars at the track to give fans three heat races and a 25 lap feature race.

Kurt Taylor in the 3K car had the pole with Matt Kurtz in the 92 on the outside for the start of the SALDANA heat race. Matt Kurtz took the lead on the start and he took the win. The 6S of Robbie Smith had the pole for the DMI heat race, with Rich Alexander in the 8 car on the outside. It was the 6S that made the better start and took the second heat win. Terry Witherspoon in the 43 car had the pole with A.J. Maddox in the 3A for the start of the BROWN MILLER heat race. After all the passing it was Shawn Murray in the 22 that took the lead and the heat win.

The 4C of Tyler Godwin had the pole for the start of the LUCAS OIL feature race event, with the 6S of Robbie Smith alongside. After a parade lap, the race went to green and it was Robbie Smith in the 6S car that took the lead. After a caution restart it was Tyler Godwin got by Robbie and never looked backed and took the checkered flag, followed by Danny Martin in the 24 car, Robbie Smith in the 6S car, Sport Allen in the 82 car and Matt Kurtz in the 92 car rounding out the top 5.
