Jay Fogleman Breaks Through at Motor Mile for His First Win of 2012

Charlotte, NC 7/16/12– After dodging rain showers during the day’s practice session luck finally ran out on PASS South Series officials as showers came and washed out the afternoon’s qualifying session. This set up a rare occurrence for PASS South competitors to take the green based on current series points standings, and scraped the normal redraw of the top ten qualifiers to take the green flag. This put leader Brandon Ward on the pole with second place man Kyle Grissom to his outside for the initial start. Ward picked up right where he left off at Anderson two weeks earlier taking command of the lead on lap one. While it was Ward who took the lead young John Hunter Nemechek, son of NASCAR driver Joe Nemechek, was the car on the move through the first portion of the 150 lap event. (more…)

Babb swapped the second position with defending DIRTcar Late Model National Champion Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., throughout the middle stages of the 40-lap main event.

“Every time we’ve been here to Attica, Ryan has been really good on the bottom,” Babb said. “He kind of showed me there was something down there.”

He then past Frank Heckenast Jr., of Frankfort, Ill., on a lap 37 restart to claim the win.

“I knew I had him because I rolled the top so good on the restart,” Babb said. “I had been having a little trouble up there because it was a little treacherous and you could jump it easy but on that last restart I hit it really good and it shot me down the backstretch.” (more…)

Points Leader Matches World of Outlaws Late Model Series Single-Season Win Record In Dramatic Fashion

GRAND FORKS, ND – July 13, 2012 – Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., tied the World of Outlaws Late Model Series single-season win record in dramatic fashion, overtaking race-long pacesetter Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., on the final lap to capture Friday night’s ‘Seven Clans Casinos 50’ at River Cities Speedway.

In another memorable WoO LMS event at the high-banked, quarter-mile oval, Lanigan, 42, chased Smith for the entire distance before finally slipping underneath the leader racing down the backstretch on the last circuit. Lanigan found just enough traction on the bottom of turns three and four to beat Smith back to the checkered flag by a mere 0.024 of a second – likely the closest finish in the history of the WoO LMS.

The $10,650 triumph was Lanigan’s ninth of 2012, matching the national tour’s modern-era (2004-present) single-season record held by Scott Bloomquist and Josh Richards. He will have his first opportunity to establish a new standard on Saturday night (July 14) when the WoO LMS ‘Wild West Tour’ concludes at North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minn.

“It’s definitely awesome to be able to tie (the single-season win record),” said Lanigan, whose 35th career WoO LMS victory moved him within three of tying Richards atop the circuit’s win list since 2004. “It definitely helps the bank account too. We’ll just keep on chugging and see what we can come up with.” (more…)

Saldana Feasts at the Knight Before the Kings Royal

ROSSBURG, Ohio – July 13, 2012 – Eldora Speedway has turned into a feast-or-famine facility for Joey Saldana.

A year ago, his season was derailed after a vicious accident during the Kings Royal kept him out of his sprint car for approximately two months. However, Saldana powered to a special victory in his return to Eldora Speedway last fall.

On an overcast Friday, Saldana recaptured that magic and feasted en route to the Knight Before the Kings Royal win – his 11th with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at the famed half-mile oval.

“Tonight we needed it,” he said. “The last two months we’ve been struggling.

“It definitely makes you feel confident, but you still got to come out here and run all 40 laps and be leading at the end.” (more…)

Moyer Takes Battle at the Beach 50 at Tri-City Speedway

PONTOON BEACH, IL (July 13, 2012) – Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR took the gloves off, and is taking home the trophy for the Battle of the Beach 50 at Tri-City Speedway. He led the first 17 laps of the race until O’Neal powered ahead of him, coming from his 12th starting spot to take the lead on lap 18. O’Neal then led Moyer until his left rear tire went flat on lap 27.

Moyer and pole setter Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN paced the field for the first 13 circuits of the race. The first caution of the race came out for Billy Moyer Jr. on lap 13, and momentarily halted a good battle for the lead in traffic between and the defending series champion, Owens and Moyer. On the restart, O’Neal, who was up to fifth place, shot to the bottom of the track and took over second on lap 14.

With O’Neal’s demise from the lead Moyer paced the field over the last 22 laps of the race. He saw a green-white-checkered finish when Tyler Reddick brought out the final caution with two laps remaining. Moyer then held off Owens for his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series triumph of 2012 and his 15th career LOLMDS victory.

“We always like coming here, ever since they reconfigured the race track a few years ago. It’s just the perfect size, and to win here again is just tremendous! Kevin (Gundaker) and his staff do a great job here,” said the Hall of Fame driver. (more…)

“The thing was when we went single file we started second and I knew my only chance was to drive it down into turn one like Jack Hewitt,” explained Wallace. “I knew Tyler was going to go to the bottom so my only chance is to pounce on it on the outside.”

“My car was really good tonight, my crew chief Billy Smith ordered some new parts and I guess they worked because it had incredible forward bite,” Wallace said. “I’m really excited for the win because it’s at a legendary track and we earned it.” (more…)

O’Neal Slides to Terre Haute Action Track DIRTcar Summer Nationals Victory

Terre Haute, Ind. – July 12, 2012 – Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., captured his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals win of 2012 Thursday night at the Terre Haute Action Track worth $5,000.

(For late breaking news from the DIRTcar Summer Nationals ‘Hell Tour’, click here to follow along on Twitter.)

O’Neal used a strong restart on lap 20 to tail leader Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., before making a lap 22 pass for the lead when Sheppard slipped over the cushion exiting turn two.

“Turns one and two were rough getting in and it was hard to hit your line every time,” analyzed O’Neal. “Right before the yellow flag we kind of got a run on him and I knew we had a shot there if we could stay out of the lapped cars.”

“We got the job done though, after the way we’ve struggled. My guys have worked really hard and it’s paying off.” (more…)

Lanigan Returns To World of Outlaws Late Model Series Winning Ways With Dominant Victory At Red River Co-op Speedway

Triumph Moves Kentucky Star Within One Checkered Flag Of National Tour’s Single-Season Win Record

WINNIPEG, MB – July 12, 2012 – Darrell Lanigan put himself at the doorstep of World of Outlaws Late Model Series history with a convincing victory in Thursday night’s 50-lap A-Main at Red River Co-op Speedway.

Roaring back from his first DNF of 2012 two nights earlier, the 42-year-old star from Union, Ky., took advantage of an outside pole starting spot to lead the entire distance. His triumph in the tour’s first-ever visit to the Canadian province of Manitoba was his eighth of the season and moved him within one checkered flag of tying the circuit’s modern-era (2004-present) single-season win record held by Scott Bloomquist and Josh Richards.

“We had a good car (on Tuesday night at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D.), but we just had some problems and got a DNF,” said Lanigan, whose 18 th-place run at the half-mile oval marked just his third finish outside the top 10 in 24 events. “We knocked a hole in the radiator and had to pull out, but we came back strong tonight. We had a brand-new (Cornett) motor – that thing was awesome.” (more…)

LIMA, Ohio — July 11, 2012 — Initially, Kerry Madsen was just hoping to survive Wednesday night.

Tim Fuller Joins Kennedy Motorsports Dirt Late Model Team To Form Standout Two-Driver Assault With Shane Clanton

CONCORD, NC – July 12, 2012 – Tim Fuller is set to join the Kennedy Motorsports dirt Late Model operation as a teammate to Shane Clanton, team owner John Kennedy has announced.

Kennedy’s decision to hire Fuller will provide a huge boost to both the veteran Watertown, N.Y., driver and Kennedy’s fledgling racing effort. Fuller, 44, has struggled to keep his self-owned racing program afloat financially on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series for the past two years, but his ability remains unquestioned and points to a powerhouse pairing with Fayetteville, Ga.’s Clanton under the Kennedy Motorsports banner.

“We’re extremely excited to have Tim Fuller as part of our team,” said Kennedy, a native of the Jamestown, N.Y., area who now lives in Phoenix, Ariz. “His experience as a racer over the years – especially his last six as a World of Outlaws regular – will help take our whole program to a higher level and put us in position for success.

“With Tim and Shane Clanton, Kennedy Motorsports will have two very talented drivers who are proven winners working together. That’s a very exciting situation for any car owner.” (more…)
