Boggs Brilliant in Pepsi River Days Rumble Win at Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, OH (September 1, 2012) – Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY led all the way as he went on to win the Pepsi 50 River Days Rumble on Saturday Night at Portsmouth Raceway Park. For Boggs, it was his second career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win as he beat Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN and 17th starting John Blankenship of Williamson, WV to the finish line. He scored $10,000 for the victory.

Boggs was virtually unchallenged the entire distance as he thrilled his home-track fans with the victory in the annual event. The win was Boggs’ sixth this year at PRP, where he is a two-time track champion.

“Not bad for a car that has parts about ten years old on it,” said the second-generation driver, “we should have won last night, but didn’t, but I would have much rather won this one,” said Boggs who was leading Friday Night’s $7,000 to win event until he lost a wheel.

“The car was fast and to beat Scott (Bloomquist), I don’t know what to say, he and my dad (the late Jack Boggs) wouldn’t tell each other the truth on race set-ups, but I have shared info with him and I beat him tonight. It feels great,” said the 43-year-old racer whose lone career LOLMDS came in 2005 at Charlotte, NC. (more…)

Madsen Stops Swindell Streak on Night 1 at Skagit Speedway

Attrition takes a toll on top-five cars, including two drivers in the hunt for Outlaws title

ALGER, Wash. – Aug. 31, 2012 – Once Kerry Madsen crossed the finish line with the checkered flag waving behind him, it was safe to breathe.

Up to that point, not so much.

Five drivers had a bid for the victory end in contact or mechanical failure during World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series action on Friday evening at Skagit Speedway, which wraps up the Outlaws schedule in Washington on Saturday. Opening Ceremonies are slated for 7 p.m.

Madsen overcame a near mess of his own after colliding with Donny Schatz for the lead on a restart en route to his fourth World of Outlaws feature win of the season.

“Any of these races is tough to win,” Madsen said. “When you get around the front five, there’s not a lot of give and take. Luckily we had track position.”

The front row starters battled side by side for the opening lap before Schatz edged Madsen at the line to lead the first lap. He maintained the advantage as the drivers entered traffic on lap six. However, Cody Darrah spun in turn two on lap 11 to cause the first caution of the race.

Attrition to cars in the top five began to take its toll on the restart as fourth-running Tim Kaeding pulled to the infield following an engine issue around the same time there was contact for the lead.

As Schatz and Madsen took the green flag and raced toward turn one, a slight collision occurred near the flag stand. The contact was enough to flatten the left rear tire for Schatz, who dropped several positions before stopping on the frontstretch on lap 13 for a caution. (more…)

Jared Hawkins Returns To Tyler County Speedway Saturday Night (Sept. 1) To Defend Memorable Victory In Last Year’s ‘Black Diamond 125’ Finale

Over $150,000 On The Line During Unique World of Outlaws Late Model Series Event

MIDDLEBOURNE, WV – Aug. 31, 2012 – Jared Hawkins can’t believe that he’s about to defend his stunning victory in last year’s big-money finale of the Black Diamond 125 at Tyler County Speedway.

Ready or not, on Saturday night (Sept. 1) the 26-year-old talent from Fairmont, W.Va., returns to the scene of his greatest triumph to chase a chunk of the $150,000-plus purse promoter Frank Wilson has posted for the unique, multi-feature World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at the quarter-mile ‘Bullring.’

“It doesn’t feel like it’s been a year,” Hawkins wistfully said. “It feels like we were just there. I still relive that day all the time.”

The second annual Black Diamond 125 was, of course, a memorable coming-out party for Hawkins. After pocketing the biggest payday of his young career with an $8,000 win in the Friday-night UFO Late Model Series tuneup, he upped the ante 24 hours later with a gargantuan $20,000 score in the 45-lap ‘Sweet Sixteen’ headliner that capped the event’s three-feature program. Antioch Speedway Hosts World of Outlaws on Monday, Sept. 10

Kinser claimed the inaugural event at the action-packed, 3/8-mile track last season

ANTIOCH, Calif. – Aug. 30, 2012 – After a successful audition at Antioch Speedway last year, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series heads back to the 3/8-mile track this season.

The Outlaws will compete at the facility on Monday, Sept. 10, to wrap up the California Outlaw Speedweek, which features five races in as many days at three different tracks.

“I expect us to come back in there and have a good car again,” said Sammy Swindell, who set the track record of 11.563 seconds last season. “Since that was the first time there we’ll know a little more about what we need to do when we get there this time.”

Steve Kinser won the action-packed event, which featured a variety of problems for cars battling for the lead. Swindell’s engine shut off after colliding with a car in traffic. Lucas Wolfe spun out amid trouble in traffic after leading the first 11 laps. Craig Dollansky assumed the lead, but ended by flipping shortly after being passed for the top spot by Kinser.

“It’s actually quite exciting,” Kerry Madsen said. “Obviously it’s got its unique challenges, so looking for a good result there.”

Tickets can be ordered online by clicking WorldofOutlaws.com/tickets or by calling 877-395-8606.
