Locals Steal the Show, Basset Jr. Visits Victory Lane

Anderson, S.C. (10/6/12) –The local drivers that suited up and raced with the UARA-STARS for the Goodyear 150 stole the show Saturday Night at Anderson Motor Speedway, but it was Ronnie Bassett Jr. who won the race. After taking a couple of races off, Bassett Jr. returned in winning form by saving his tires for the final restart of the race.

His third place starting position gave him a spot at the front, but it was his patience that got him the win. Local drivers Jeremy Burns and Ralph Carnes stayed in the front pack the entire night and finished 2-3. Carnes jumped out and led the majority of the race, awarding him the Tilton’s Most Laps Lead Award.  R.A. Brown, David Roberts, and Justin Hobgood also jumped out front and battled amongst the top five early in the race.

While those locals led the field, Dillon Bassett was making his way through the field. After almost spinning during his qualifying lap, Bassett started from the rear and gained the most positions during the race. For the second event in a row, he was awarded Holley Performer of the Race and Circle Wheel/Xtreme Trophies and More Rookie of the Race. Bassett wasn’t the only rookie with a good run. Brandon Jones who has been showing more and more muscle lately had a top five finish and worked his way from an 11th place starting position to 5th. Will Gallaher had taking some races off to get adjusted and focused on school.  Gallaher’s return saw him come home with a solid tenth place finish after gaining 9 spots during the race. (more…)

Randy Weaver Makes It’s Three In A Row At Talladega Short Track

HUNTSVILLE, AL –Randy Weaver wanted a third win at Talladega this year and he did it Saturday night as he beat Brandon Kinzer, Riley Hickman and the rain to capture his third win in a row at TST and pad his points lead for the 2012 season a third win at Talladega.  The win was worth another $3,500 to Weaver.

Weaver set fat time in VP Race Fuels qualifying as he turned a lap of 14.713 seconds on a cool and damp night with Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, GA., on the outside pole, Kinzer, Hickman and Todd Morrow rounded out the top five in qualifying.

At the drop of the green flag Ridley took the lead and moved ahead of Weaver until Weaver pulled along side Ridley on lap 5, and the two raced side by side with Weaver taking over on lap 7.  The only caution would come out on lap 9 as the cars of Skip Freeman and Adam Martin brought out the only caution of the night in the 40 lap event.

Weaver then brought the field around foe the restart and put on a show as he pulled ahead of Ridley, who now in battle with riley Hickman for the second spot.  Hickman got the second spot from Ridley but could never get through the lapped traffic as well as Weaver and could never gain ground him for the remainder of the race. Hearn Makes Long-Awaited Return To Victory Lane In VP Small Engine Fuels 200 At Syracuse Mile

Rain-Shortened Event Gives Hearn Record Sixth Triumph In NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week Headliner 17 Years After Last Win

SYRACUSE, NY – Oct. 7, 2012 – By Kevin Kovac/DIRTcar Racing P.R. – Brett Hearn’s long run of big-block Modified misery during NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week is over.

Combining a fleet race car with the good fortune that had seemingly abandoned him at the famed New York State Fairgrounds, Hearn emerged triumphant in Sunday’s rain-shortened VP Small Engine Fuels 200.

Hearn, 54, of Sussex, N.J., captured big-block Modified racing’s most prestigious event for a record sixth time when DIRTcar officials declared the race official after 113 laps due to increasingly heavy precipitation that slickened the one-mile oval. But it was his first win in the race since 1995 – a 17-year span between checkered flags that was filled with frustration and heartbreak and made his return to the spotlight a sweet reward.

“You keep on doing this long enough it’s gotta turn around and come back your way, right?” said Hearn, who has started the VP Small Engine Fuels 200 for 35 consecutive years. “I won the thing five times in 11 years (from 1985-95) and thought, ‘Man, it wasn’t that hard after all.’ And then the next 16 years I realized not only is it hard to win the race, it’s hard to finish the damn race. This puts it all in perspective.” (more…)

Blankenship Blasts from Seventh to Win Rome Rumble Sunday Night

ROME, GA (October 7, 2012) – John Blankenship of Williamson, WV continued the best season of his racing career on Sunday Night as he captured the Rome Rumble at Rome International Speedway. Blankenship, who started seventh, roared to the lead on lap 21 and never looked back in winning his third Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event of the season.

Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN survived a side-by-side duel with Chris Madden of Gaffney, SC to finish second in his Hawkeye Trucking, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford. Madden was third, followed by Steve Francis of Ashland, KY and 10th starting, Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN.

Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN; the current series points leader and previous nights’ winner of the Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout; took the lead at the start of the 50-lap, $10,000-to-win feature event. Owens looked dominant in the early going until race traffic started to slow his momentum. When Owens caught traffic, so did Madden, Bloomquist, and Blankenship and they made it a four-way battle for the top spot.

At one point they were three-wide for second. Blankenship passed both Madden and Bloomquist on the same lap to take second. Then two laps later Blankenship made the inside pass of Owens for the lead on lap 21. On the same lap, Owens slowed with a right-rear flat tire. (more…)

Pro Stock Star Rocky Warner Wins Sportsman Championship

Rookie Desjardins Loses it on Last Lap, Letting Warner Take NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week Championship 30

SYRACUSE, N. Y. – Oct. 7, 2012 – NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week 2011 Pro Stock champion Rocky Warner added to his tally another victory, but not in the Pro Stock class. Warner, of Gloversville, N. Y., began running in the Sportsman Modified division last year, and again brought his Sportsman ride to Super DIRT Week and steered it to victory in Sunday’s Sportsman Modified Championship 30.

“It hasn’t really hit me yet,” Warner said. “I told some of the guys to pinch me. It doesn’t seem real yet.”

Warner may have seen victory lane at the New York State Fairgrounds, but never with the competitive 60-car field that attempted to qualify for Sunday’s championship race.

“The Pro Stock class is a tough class, but we’re getting 30 Pro Stocks here, which is pretty much the whole field,” Warner said. “For Sportsman there are 60 or 61 cars that registered here, and it’s not just 60 cars, there are 30 or 40 of the best of them, so it’s one of those deals where it makes you feel a little better.” (more…)

Stefanski Takes Second Pro Stock Championship Crown

Runner-Up Ladouceur Pleased with Points

SYRACUSE, N. Y. – Oct. 7, 2012 – Pete Stefanski of North Tonawanda, N. Y., captured the Pro Stock Championship 25 presented by BACC-OFF Sunday at NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI, becoming a two-time winner of the event.

“It’s pretty awesome,” said Stefanski, who previously topped the race in 2009. “Anytime you win at Syracuse it’s good to be in victory lane. It’s a tough place to win at.”

Rocky Warner started in the front row and led at the green flag, but by lap five Stefanski took it from the defending champion. Stefanski continued to build his lead despite unpredictable weather and track conditions at the “Moody Mile,” leaving Warner, Chad Jesseo and Joey Ladouceur to battle for second.

“It’s a big track,” Stefanski said. “You have to be perfect on it with your setup here because someone could be just a hair bit better than you and you wouldn’t even be able to catch them.” (more…)

SHAW PICKS UP NeSMITH CHEVROLET GUMBO NATIONALS WIN IN GREENVILLE

GREENVILLE, MS – Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL turned his 2012 season around on Saturday by winning the 6th Annual Gumbo Nationals for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at Greenville Speedway.  Shaw led all 60 laps of the race to collect the $5,000 top prize driving the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star.

“We started out the season challenging for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship, and won a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division race in May, but the last two months has been tough for our team,” said Shaw, who finished fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points.  “This win was big for us and really turned our season around.”

Shaw held off a late race challenge from Tait Davenport of Benton, KY, who caught Shaw in lapped traffic and challenged for the lead on lap 46 and lap 54.  But Davenport suddenly fell off the pace in the Murtco, Inc. Special and coasted to a stop in turn two on lap 55.   Davenport’s misfortune earned him the Dominator Race Products Hard Luck Award.

“I was pretty much committed to the top of the race track, and when we got to the lapped traffic, I tried to go to the bottom, but lost all of my momentum,” Shaw said.  “I knew someone was there challenging me, but the cautions seemed to work in our advantage all night, and we kept clear race track in front of us.” (more…)

Homan Tops Big-Block Modified “Win and You’re In” at Rolling Wheels

Moody Mile Newbie’s First Race Will Be the Big One After Locking In a VP 200 Position

ELBRIDGE, N. Y. – Oct. 7, 2012 – Although he has not driven the Moody Mile at the New York State Fairgrounds, Chad Homan has been trying for years to qualify for the VP Small Engine Fuels 200 Sunday during NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week. Instead of participating in time trials and heat races throughout the week, Homan has been working on conquering Rolling Wheels for the Big-Block Modified “Win and You’re In” race, and Saturday he finally made it.

“I’ve been trying to win this race for a few years now, but I’ve never won it,” Homan, of Macedon, N. Y., said. “It’s going to be pretty cool to start the 200.”

Homan started third in his heat at Rolling Wheels, beating out competitors to get the top spot and going on to start third in the 25-lap feature. Chad Brachmann, 2011 “Win and You’re In” winner, took the initial lead, but a caution just off the green flag gave Homan the chance to pass on the restart. (more…)

Kinser Captures NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week Victory

‘The King’ has won 12 of 35 World of Outlaws races at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park

ELBRIDGE, N.Y. – Oct. 6, 2012 – On a frigid Saturday night, Steve Kinser found a familiar, yet distant, place.

Mired in a slump since late July, Kinser braved the chilly and windy weather at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park, where he capitalized in traffic to pass polesitter Chad Kemenah and pull away to his fourth World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series win of the season at the NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI event.

It was Kinser’s 12th victory in 35 World of Outlaws events at the fast 5/8-mile and it snapped a 40-race winless streak in points events.

“We’ve been struggling up a storm,” Kinser said. “It just felt good to get out and win a race. We’ve been having some trouble. It’ll make it a lot better ride home, I can tell you that.” (more…)

Tim McCreadie Finally Reaches Victory Lane At Syracuse Mile With Dramatic Win In Gander Mountain 358-Modifed Championship 150

T-Mac’s Coveted Triumph Comes After Hearn’s Fuel Tank Runs Dry With Two Laps Remaining

SYRACUSE, NY – Oct. 6, 2012 – By Kevin Kovac/DIRTcar Racing P.R. – Tim McCreadie can finally call himself a winner at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Erasing a frustrating history of near-misses and bad breaks during NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week, McCreadie inherited the lead when Brett Hearn ran out of fuel with two laps remaining and held on to capture Saturday’s Gander Mountain 358-Modified Championship 150.

McCreadie, 38, of Watertown, N.Y., was clearly overjoyed after scoring a $20,000 triumph at the historic one-mile oval where his father, ‘Barefoot’ Bob McCreadie, won the prestigious big-block Modified VP Small Engine Fuels 200 in 1986. He celebrated by doing doughnuts on the homestretch with his 4-Star Racing Teo-Pro car, pounding on the machine’s roof and posing for pictures on the winner’s stage with a large contingent of friends and family members, including his two-year-old son, Gavin, and legendary father.

“It’s awesome,” McCreadie said when asked to describe what a victory at the Syracuse Mile meant to him. “I can’t believe we did it. I know it’s only the small-block race, but this is an unbelievable feeling for me. I can say it’s probably the most emotional and excited and happy that I’ve ever been in a race car.” (more…)
