Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care Sunday, October 14, 2012

Versatile ARCA Racing Series, Southern Illinois 100 Turn 60 Together at DuQuoin The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, celebrating its 60th Anniversary Season in 2012, is again steering for the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds “Magic Mile” dirt, where the 60th running of the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care comes alive Sunday, October 14. The event was originally scheduled for September 3; however, torrential rains caused the race to be postponed.

Championship Title Fight Tight at the Top to DuQuoin The National Championship battle is coming down to a five-wide fight with 19-year-old Chris Buescher (No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford) leading over 50-year-old Frank Kimmel (No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota). Rookie Brennan Poole (No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet) and rookie Alex Bowman (No. 22 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge) are the other players in the mix. Chad Hackenbracht (No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet), currently fifth in points, is mathematically still in too.

Stakes High for Buescher and Kimmel at DuQuoin

Buescher, the defending DuQuoin race winner, currently leads Kimmel by 85 points. However, Kimmel dominated with a convincing victory on the Springfield mile dirt in late August, and heads to DuQuoin as a five-time winner of the Southern Illinois 100. The event at the DuQuoin mile dirt will prove absolutely critical in the quest for championship, which will culminate just days later at Kansas Speedway. (more…)

Rookie Poole Leads Veteran Kimmel in Pursuit of ARCA’s Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge Title; Wraps at Kansas Speedway Oct. 19

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – Brennan Poole still has his eye on the big prize – the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards national championship. Currently third in points overall, he trails current point leader Chris Buescher by 175 points with just two races remaining in ARCA’s 60th Anniversary Season.

While his championship possibilities may seem like a long shot, there are other accolades well within his grasp, including ARCA’s prestigious Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge title, which will be decided in the Kansas Lottery 98.9, the season finale at Kansas Speedway October 19.

“We’re still going after the main championship, and still believe we can accomplish that main goal,” Poole said. “We know we’ll need some help from Chris Buescher and Frank Kimmel, and then we’ll need near perfect days at DuQuoin and Kansas. If we run well at both, we’ll just let it all fall where it will fall.

“If we’re not able to win the overall title, the Superspeedway championship would be a great title to have in your hip pocket.” (more…)

CAMARGO, IL – The University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars will wrap up their 2012 season Saturday, Oct. 13 at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway. The “Big E” seems the appropriate place to conclude the season for the UNOH All Stars – no other track in the country has hosted more of the series’ races than Eldora. The Oct. 13 appearance will be the 132nd of the UNOH All Stars at the famous half-mile.

Going into the UNOH Sprintacular at Eldora, Aliquippa, Pennsylvania’s Tim Shaffer has all but locked up the national title for the series. Also locking up the $20,000 top prize for winning the UNOH All Stars’ Ohio Region championship will be Hartford, Ohio’s Dale Blaney. Blaney, who leads the series with 9 wins in 2012, was the victor last October when the UNOH All Stars wrapped up their season. Blaney has six career All Star wins at Eldora, just part of his career total of 93 as he is within five of tying Jacobs for the series’ all-time feature wins. GALLAHER EARNS CAREER-BEST UARA FINISH AT ANDERSON MOTOR SPEEDWAY

DENVER, NC (October 8, 2012) – After taking a few weeks off from the series, Will Gallaher returned to United Auto Racing Association (UARA) STARS Series competition this week at Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway.  The young driver picked up several positions throughout the 150-lap Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company 150 to bring home his first top-10 finish in the 2012 UARA-STARS Series.

Despite having a fast car in practice, Gallaher spent Saturday’s practice session working with his Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) crew trying to improve the No. 6 Chevrolet even more.  Twelfth-quick in practice, Gallaher overdrove his first qualifying lap causing him to lose momentum on his second lap and secure the 19th starting position.

Knowing they needed to make it to the end of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company 150 to have a good finish, the No. 6 ESR team was a bit cautious at the start of the 150 lap event.  Gallaher logged laps and passed several competitors while maintaining his position on the lead lap.  The driver drove a clean race and made a charge through the field picking up nine positions throughout the event.  By the time the checkered flag fell, Gallaher was scored in the 10th position to record his career-best UARA-STARS Series finish.

“Even though we didn’t get to start where we wanted, the team put together such a good car we were able to move through the field quickly,” commented Gallaher.  “The race was really one groove all night, so we had to be careful about saving our car so we had something left at the end.  I’m really happy I was able to get a top 10 for the team because they’ve worked hard all year and getting them a solid finish feels good.  We are all looking forward to Tri-County next week.”

Gallaher will climb back in the cockpit for the UARA-STARS Series race at Tri-County (N.C.) Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 13.

BACK-TO-BACK TOP-FIVE FINISHES FOR BRANDON JONES IN UARA COMPETITION

DENVER, NC (October 8, 2012) – Brandon Jones made it back-to-back top-five finishes in the United Auto Racing Association (UARA) STARS Series with a fifth-place run at Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway on Saturday night.  The young racer drove a clean event and saved his tires enabling him to pick up five positions during the closing laps and record his fourth top-five finish of the 2012 season.

Jones returned to Anderson Motor Speedway for his second UARA-STARS event at the 3/8-mile speedway.  With a fast No. 33 Chevrolet from Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR), Jones was able to record the third- and ninth-quickest laps during the two practice sessions.  The young driver posted a 15.869-second lap during time trials to secure the 11th starting position for Saturday night’s Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company 150.

With tires at a premium, Jones logged laps while calmly waiting for his opportunity to make a move through the field.  The field was regrouped when the caution flag was displayed with just 30 laps remaining.  As the race restarted, Jones immediately began his charge through the field and toward the front of the pack.  During the closing laps, Jones was able to pick up several positions to cross the finish line in fifth-place.

“We had a really strong No. 33 Chevrolet this weekend at Anderson Motor Speedway,” commented Jones.  “I’m really proud of the effort of my Eddie Sharp Racing team, and I’m already excited to get back on the track next weekend.  I feel like we’ve shown a lot of improvement as the year has progressed-we’re proving that we’re a competitor week after week.  We hope to be back up front and contending for the lead next week at Tri-County (N.C.) Motor Speedway.”

Jones will be back behind the wheel in the UARA-STARS Series on Saturday, October 13, at Tri-County (N.C.) Motor Speedway

JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Points Season Ends Friday at Winchester

Salem, IN (October 8, 2012) – The 2012 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance 2012 points season will come to a close with the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com this Friday on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway, part of the huge 41st Annual Winchester 400 Weekend. This is the second season for the crate motor touring series sanction by Champion Racing Association with the support of Title Sponsor JEGS and Presenting Sponsor Chevrolet Performance.

To say 21 year old Daniel Hemric from Mooresville, North Carolina had a remarkable 2012 season with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour would be an understatement. Everyone knew when it was announced that Hemric would be teaming with Scott Neal Racing to run for the Championship with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour for 2012, they would definitely be a title contender, and would win races, but no one expected the results that this lethal combination would produce.

In the 13 series events to date Hemric has won a series record eight events starting at the series season opener at Plymouth Speedway. Other wins came at Illiana Motor Speedway, Dixie Motor Speedway, Springport Speedway, Shadybowl Speedway, Auto City Speedway and he swept both the series events at Lucas Oil Raceway, which was the only track Hemric won on that he had raced at prior to the 2012 season. Ross Kenseth Prevails as Winner in Rain Shortened PASS South All American 400 in Nashville

Charlotte, NC 10/8/12– There were two winners Saturday night at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tennessee; Mother Nature and Ross Kenseth, son of NASCAR champion Matt Kenseth. The nineteen year old Clemson University college student picked up his biggest win of his career when series officials were forced to call the 28th All American 400 at lap 220 of 400 due to steady rain that overtook the speedway just past the event’s halfway point. The win was Kenseth’s second of the season in PASS South Series competition dating back to April 21st at the Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina.

Kenseth took advantage of a top ten qualifying effort, taking the green flag from the seventh position on the initial start of the 400 lap event. Several quick movers and losers were fast to scatter throughout the field including that of Eddie Hoffman, who after leading the first thirteen laps began to fade in a hurry, handing the lead to Iowa native Nate Caruth, driving a Brad Keselowski Racing owned machine. While Hoffman was going back it was PASS North Series regular Johnny Clark making his way to the front from a thirty-fourth starting position. (more…)
