Stremme Strong In DIRTcar Nationals Opener

Second Career Win in DIRTcar UMP Modifieds at Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, FL — Feb. 6, 2018 — The premier drivers and teams within the DIRTcar UMP Modified ranks from across North America converged to Volusia Speedway Park (FL) for night number one of the 47th Annual DIRTcar Nationals. A stellar field of 65 teams made their way to the Sunshine State to compete in the first of seven straight nights of competition for the open-wheeled weekly warriors. David Stremme, originally from South Bend, IN and now calls Mooresville, NC home, shot out to the lead on the opening lap from his third starting spot and held off two-time defending DIRTcar Nationals Champion, Nick Hoffman to score his second career Gator.

“We were pretty good tonight, but I feel like we still have a lot of work to do. We’re just ok and we know that. Its only night one,” Offered the 40-year-old owner of Lethal Chassis after his victory. “Things will change quite a bit the rest of the week and the competition here is pretty strong. Real happy though, have to thank all the sponsors. Definitely Penske Racing Shocks. This is the first race with them on the car, so we’re pretty proud of that.” He added.

The first Feature of the DIRTcar Nationals would see NASCAR Xfinity Series star, Justin Allgaier and Hoffman lead the mammoth 28-car field to chief starter, Dave Farney’s green flag to begin their 20-lap Feature. Stremme, who started on the inside of the third row, quickly shot around the front row and grabbed the early advantage while the rest of the field jockeyed for position. Hoffman fell back to as far as fifth, before regrouping and picking off cars one by one until he got back up to second.

As the laps clicked off, Hoffman closed the gap on Stremme and caught a break when the caution flag flew with just a single lap to go. That set up a one-lap shootout between Stremme and Hoffman and on the restart, Stremme got the jump on both Hoffman and Allgaier, who was running in the third spot. Stremme would get away from both and cross the stripe first en route to his first DIRTcar Nationals Feature win since the 2015 season and second of his career.

Hoffman settled for second as Kyle Strickler, who won one of the three Last Chance Showdowns to get into the show, started 19th and completed the podium finishers. Chase Collins, who started 13th, finished fourth as Zeke McKenzie, who started 11th, finished off the top five. NASCAR Camping World Trucks Series regular, Justin Haley was sixth after starting 25th while Kenny Wallace, Michael Long, K.C. Burdette and Allgaier, who faded on the last restart, were the top 10.

Night two for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds will see the teams return for the next $1,000 payday. The Arctic Car All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars will race for their first of two nights of action before the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars race for three nights in a row starting on Friday, February 9th. Winter Freeze Kicks Off 2018 FASTRAK Racing Series Schedule with $23,135 Total Purse

The temperature may be cold, but the season is ready to heat up for the FASTRAK Racing Series. As part of Winter Freeze at Screven Motor Speedway, the Chevrolet Performance Late Models will hit the red clay to battle for over $23,000 in two complete shows. The FASTRAK Racing Series is set to begin its 15th season, February 9th and 10th at the Sylvania, GA race track. Drivers will compete for $2,000 to win on Friday and $3,000 to win on Saturday.

“I can’t think of a better place to kick-off our 2018 season,” said FASTRAK General Manager DJ Irvine, “We always have a strong field at Screven and fantastic racing.”

The FASTRAK Racing Series will continue with the new format, which was introduced at Screven in the 2017 season finale. Competitors will be split into two qualifying groups, based on pill draw, A and B. Heat race lineups will be determined by qualifying times with Group A making heats 1 and 3 and Group B making heats 2 and 4. The new format still produced the same quality of racing that everyone has come to expect from the FASTRAK Racing Series. Series officials decided to implement the change for the entire 2018 season.

“We used the new format after several drivers had asked for a change,” stated Irvine, “we always listen to their input and are willing to try something new. This time, they were right.”

The 2017 season saw a competitive point battle throughout the season, and the same is expected in 2018. The Championship, won by Benji Hicks, was locked up in the next to final race, also at Screven Motor Speedway. FASTRAK Racing Series is a part of the Winter Freeze for the first time.

In FASTRAK’s last appearance at Screven, Travis Pennington of Stapleton, GA took home the victory in the $2,000 to win event on November 17th. On November 18th, Dillon Brown of Gaffney, SC beat the field to the checkered flag to collect $3,000 in the FASTRAK Racing Series season finale.

Drivers wishing to compete in the FASTRAK Racing Series tour can send in their membership forms to the office or fill them out at Screven Motor Speedway. The 2018 membership form is available on the FASTRAK website, fastrakracing.com.

Full purse for Friday, February 9th:
1) $2,000; 2) $1,000; 3) $700; 4) $600; 5) $500; 6) $450; 7) $400; 8) $375; 9) $350; 10) $325; 11) $315; 12) $300; 13) $275; 14) $265; 15-24) $250 Total: $10,355

Holding Off Overton, Davenport Wins at East Bay

TAMPA, FL (February 6, 2018) – Jonathan Davenport fought off a furious late-race challenge from Brandon Overton to win night two of the Wrisco Industries 42nd Annual Winternationals – presented by E3 Spark Plugs at East Bay Raceway Park.

A caution with 22 laps complete set up and eight-lap shootout between Davenport and the tenth-place starting Overton. The two raced the outside line around the 1/3-mile oval using every inch of the cushion that remained. Davenport went to the outside of a lapped car as Overton went low, heading into turn one on the final lap. Overton slid almost all the way up the track, but left Davenport room as he went on to take his third career win in the Winternationals.

Tonight, marked the first win of the newly formed team for car owner Lance Landers and his driver Davenport, who recorded his 28th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory. Overton finished second in the Chip Stone, Randy Weaver-owned entry, followed by opening night winner Brandon Sheppard grabbing third in the Mark Richards Racing, Rocket. Josh Richards and Tyler Erb completed the top five drivers.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane Davenport recalled thinking he was going to lose the race during the waning laps. “I thought I had run over something during those last few laps. The car wasn’t the same, but it’s great to get that first win for Lance Landers. Thanks to my crew, Jason Durham, Kevin Rumley, and everyone that helps. They have worked their tails off, we have a few more days to go. Jason and Kevin put their heads together after last night and we were spot on today. They always say the first one is the hardest to get. I just hope my crew is as proud of me as I am of them. I just want say hello to everyone watching back home. My son Blaine and wife Rachel I know are tuned in to watching it online.”

Overton was pleased with his performance after a tough start to his Speedweeks at Golden Isles. “It hadn’t been nearly as good of a start to speedweeks so far, as it was last year that’s for sure. We just need to race a little bit more. As I said, we have had a terrible start to the year. Hopefully with this run, we can get rolling. The slide job on the last lap got off to a good start, but at the end I was thinking I need to get out of it or I could wreck both cars.”

Sheppard was looking for his second win in a row but finished third. “On that final restart, I chose the bottom. I thought I could get enough grip off the corner and then shoot across to get to the top of the track. They [Davenport and Overton] had a way better restart than I did. I went out on a limb and chose the bottom. A first and a third to start the week is great. I need to get qualifying better. I haven’t qualified very well since we have been down here. I think if we do that better, then we will start up front in these races.”

The winner’s Lance Landers Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by: Crop Production Services, Spartan Mowers, Valvoline, ASC Warranty, Penske Racing Shocks, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas.

Completing the top ten were Bobby Pierce, who started 24th, Kyle Bronson, Devin Moran, Earl Pearson Jr., and Timothy Culp.

Sheppard Edges Moran in East Bay Opener

TAMPA, FL (February 5, 2018) – Brandon Sheppard passed Devin Moran coming off turn four on the final lap to win the opening night of the Wrisco Industries 42nd Annual Winternationals – Presented by E3 Spark Plugs.

The 30-lap, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event saw four different leaders. Moran held the top spot at two different points and finished in second, with Earl Pearson, Jr. claiming the third position. Jonathan Davenport was in contention for the win until the end when he came home fourth. Scott Bloomquist romped from his eighteenth-place starting spot to finish fifth.

“I really didn’t find anything, it was treacherous getting off the corners. I had to get off the bottom in the brown. It’s tricky. I guess I never lifted on that last lap. My dad texted Mark [Richards] before the race and told him to get on me and that I needed to get up on the wheel more,” said the former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year.

“I knew my dad was at home watching on television. I can’t thank Mark Richards and Steve Baker enough for what they have done for me, and everybody at Rocket Chassis as well. It’s a dream come true to drive for them. My dad and my grandpa have always supported me, and I appreciate that.”

Kyle Bronson started from the pole and led the first lap of the event until Moran forged ahead. Josh Richards then picked up the pace as he took the lead for the first time on lap thirteen. Richards led three circuits until Sheppard appeared at the head of the field for the first time on lap sixteen.

Two circuits later, Moran regained the point and looked to be on his way to first career win at “The Clay by the Bay.” However, Moran was forced to battle lapped traffic entering turn three on the final lap, allowing Sheppard to go high on the track and beat Moran to the finish line by a narrow margin.

Moran was pleased with his second-place finish, but disappointed he didn’t get that first win at the 1/3-mile oval. “It was an awesome race. With all the rain they got yesterday, Al [Varnadore] did a great job with the track. It would have been better if we would have won. My dad [Donnie] and brother [Wylie] were at home tonight and I had my brother Tristan here. It was a good run. We will come back tomorrow and try to improve one more spot,” said the driver of the Tye Twarog-owned, Eddie’s Sunoco, Rocket.

The Ronnie Stuckey Enterprises, Black Diamond, Lucas Oil entry driven by Earl Pearson Jr. battled amongst the top five the entire race before crossing the finish line in third. “Those kids up front put on a good show, that’s for sure,” smiled Pearson afterwards. “For the first night here at East Bay we will take this and build from there. That was a heck of a show in front of me. They were dicing it out, back and forth, the fans had to enjoy that one.”

Sheppard’s winning Mark Richards Racing-owned, Rocket Chassis entry is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by: Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Gunter’s Honey, Integra Racing Shocks, Ace Metal Works, Sallack Well Service, and Sunoco Race Fuels.

Completing the top ten were Josh Richards, Billy Moyer Jr., Tyler Erb, Austin Hubbard, and Corey Conley.

CARS Tour to Host and Sanction Two Limited Late Model Races in 2018

Mooresville, NC 1/23/18 – With the huge Mountain Dew “Do The Dew” 150, on March 10th, already set to kick off the 2018 CARS Late Model Stock Tour season, the kickoff event got even bigger with the addition of a major Limited Late Model (LLM) race as the supporting class. The race will be hosted and sanctioned by the CARS Tour, giving LLM teams and drivers a chance to see what the CARS Tour is all about.

The seventy-five lap race will pay a $13,100 in purse, with $2,500 going to the winner and $250 to start the feature event. With an effort to minimize cost and encourage teams to travel from all over the region, the race will be run on two new and two used tires. Teams will turn in two used F-45 tires to CARS Tour officials, which meet the minimum tread depth requirement, and purchase two new F-45 tires for the race. The two used tires will be distributed to teams via a lottery to ensure fairness to all teams in attendance.

CARS Tour officials will utilize the technical rules of the Southeast Limited Late Model Series for the event, while following CARS Tour race procedures of the pole winner starting first and green flag laps only counting toward the total race distance.  A small difference from CARS LMSC standard age of 14 to compete; the minimum age for the LLM race will be 12.

“This could really turn out to be a major event for us and anyone who is a fan of LMSC racing. We’ve put this race together to showcase LLM teams and to provide those teams an opportunity to see what the CARS Tour is all about,” explained Chris Ragle, CARS Tour Series Director. “It’s a real solid purse that keeps cost down and should encourage teams from outside the area to attend. There’s going to be some good racing the March 10th weekend and I encourage all fans to go ahead and make plans to be at this one. There’s probably not a track in the Carolinas that races as well Tri-County. I promise you’ll see a show.”

Another opportunity for LLM teams to compete with the CARS Tour as a support division will be on Friday, August 3rd at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC. The event will be part of the CARS Throwback 276 weekend as the near capacity event expands to two days in 2018. This race will once again pay $2,500 to win and $250 to start, this time utilizing the LLM rules of Hickory Motor Speedway, as it will calculated as a points race for the Hickory Motor Speedway LLM division at the track. Two new tires and two used tires will be the formula for competition once again. Expanded details about this race will come at a later date.

In preparation for the March 10th race weekend at Tri County, LLM teams are invited to be a part of the CARS Tour Test/Media Day presented by SRI Performance on March 3rd. This will be only time teams will be allowed to test at the Hudson, NC track leading up to the race weekend. Teams that don’t make it on March 3rd will have an option to hit the track on March 9th as part of the standard CARS Tour optional test day before a feature event.

Teams wanting to compete in the event can enter online in advance via the CARS Tour website www.carsracingtour.com. Entry fee for the LLM race is $100 if submitted online by 4pm on March 6th.  An additional late fee of $100 will be added to all entries past the pre entry deadline period.

Event schedules for both Saturday March 3rd Test/Media Day as well as the Mountain Dew “Do The Dew 150” race weekend on March 10th are available now via the series website. Teams that have event questions can call Series Director Chris Ragle at 940.393.3167. All technical questions can be directed to CARS LMSC Tech Director David “Lightning” Saunders at 434.222.0437.

PASS Super Late Models To Headline Inaugural Commonwealth Classic At Richmond Raceway

PASS National Championship Event Will Be 100 Laps, Paying $10,000 To Win & $700 To Start

NAPLES,ME (January 23) – Officials from the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) and Richmond Raceway announced today a major addition to the 2018 motorsports calendar. The PASS Super Late Models will headline the inaugural PASS Commonwealth Classic at Richmond Raceway on Saturday night, October 20. The PASS Super Late Models will compete in a 100-lap event on the famed three-quarter mile oval, along with a 75 lapper for the Late Model Stock cars, as well as feature events for Limited Late Models and Street Stocks. A practice day for all divisions is scheduled for Friday, October 19 that will see all cars attending go through a mandatory safety inspection. Additional practice, qualifying, and all features will take place on Saturday night, October 20, all ending under the lights of Richmond Raceway.

“Many have said that Richmond Raceway is the perfect short track for fans and racers…we agree and believe the Commonwealth Classic will be a bucket list event for short trackers for years to come,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “We’ve been working with Dennis [Bickmeier] and his staff at Richmond for the better part of the year to give short track racers and fans this new event and are glad that Super Late Model racers, along with Limiteds and Street Stocks, will have the chance to race at Richmond for the first time ever. We’re also glad that Late Model Stocks will be returning to Richmond and one of the first tracks that ever ran that division back in the early 1980s.”

“We look forward to bringing another weekend of racing to fans in Racing Virginia with the Pro All Stars Series,” said Richmond President Dennis Bickmeier. “The inaugural PASS Commonwealth Classic will feature some of North America’s best Super Late Model drivers, and we are honored PASS selected Richmond Raceway as the site for its championship race weekend. It is going to be another great weekend of racing as the Action Track gets hot in October.”

The Commonwealth Classic at Richmond will be the penultimate race of the PASS National Championship Series. Now entering its 11th season, Super Late Model racing’s only true national championship will bring drivers together from all over North America to compete this Fall at Richmond Raceway.

“When you look at the great drivers that race in PASS North from New England and Canada like Ben Rowe, DJ Shaw, Travis Benjamin and others and the great PASS South drivers like Matt Craig, Tate Fogleman, Kodie Conner and those guys, this is the type of event that they will want to win and be a part of,” said Mayberry. “You take those competitors, along with all the other great Super Late Model drivers from the Midwest, West Coast and the Canadian Maritimes that we expect to compete…that’s gonna be one heck of a show come October.”

The Commonwealth Classic will consist of a 100 lap event for the PASS Super Late Models, paying $10,000 to win and $700 to start. Additionally, Late Model Stocks will return to Richmond Raceway for the first time in a number of years, competing in a 75 lap race, paying $7,000 to win and $700 to start. Both the Limited Late Models and Street Stocks will make their first ever starts at Richmond Raceway with the Limiteds racing for 50 laps and $4000 to win and the Street Stocks racing for 25 laps and $2000 to win.

The Commonwealth Classic weekend will begin on Friday, October 19 with rotating practice for all divisions from 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM. On Saturday, October 20, pit gates will open at 8 AM, with rotating practice from 10 AM – 12:30 PM, followed by qualifying at 3 PM, last chance races, and features for the PASS Super Late Models, Late Model Stocks, Limited Late Models, and Street Stocks set to begin at 4 PM.
