LLOYD WINS THE BATTLE, TURNER WINS THE WAR IN NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

OCALA, FL – Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, FL driving the Snow Brothers Special was declared the $10,000 winner in the 100-lap 8th Annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship Race on Saturday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at Bubba Raceway Park.  Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA won the $20,000 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Championship.

The engine in the B&B Produce/Dave’s Towing Special driven by apparent winner Mark Whitener of Middleburg, FL was disqualified by NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series officials for a piston violation.

The 8th Annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship Race, the first edition held at Bubba Raceway Park, will be a memorable one for a track that provided three and four-wide close quarters racing in front of a packed house, and plenty of drama, as the fate of many drivers changed lap after lap.  That included the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship battle.

Turner won the $20,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship in the Hedman Husler Special by ten points over two-time series champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN in the Eads Farms/Hardy & Associates Warrior.  It was an up and down weekend for both drivers, as they exchanged the point lead twice during the event.  (more…)

Pavement Track Welcomes World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars

Elko Speedway to cover pavement for unique dirt event on Friday, May 10

ELKO, Minn. – Nov. 27, 2012 – For the first time since a successful two-year stint at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2000-01, the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars will compete on a pavement track temporarily covered in dirt in 2013.

Elko Speedway, a 3/8-mile pavement track located approximately a half hour south of Minneapolis, will host its first-ever World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event on Friday, May 10.

Sammy Swindell, who won twice on the dirt-caked Bristol Motor Speedway, touted the job of covering Bristol Motor Speedway as a success. He also added that it levels the playing field for all competitors.

“You don’t know what you’re going to be up against until you get there,” Swindell said.

While it will be the first World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event at Elko Speedway, it’s far from the first race on dirt at the semi-banked oval. Track owner Tom Ryan said Elko Speedway is covered in dirt each fall to end the season and begin the ensuing season. A variety of events are held on the dirt before it is pealed for the pavement season. (more…)

UARA Rookies Morris and Joyce Finish 7th-8th in Championship Points

Hendersonville, NC (11/26/12) – Many first-time drivers come to the UARA series to gain experience and get equipped to move up the ranks to higher racing divisions. Jake Morris and Cory Joyce have not only done that very thing, but have overcome many obstacles throughout their rookie season to finish seventh and eighth in the final Championship Points.

Seventh place point finisher Morris captured a top-10 finished at the Season Opener at Hickory, only to follow up with engine failure at Dillon. Two races into the season, Morris has already experienced his first roller coaster as a UARA driver. He redeemed himself at Rockingham, earning Circle and Xtreme Trophies Rookie of the Race title for his fifth place finish. Out of the 15 events that Morris competed in, he missed the top-15 only three times.

In addition to his Rookie of the Race award he won, two Tilton awards, plus a Joe Gibbs Driven Award and Swift Spring award.

“We’ve had strong cars everywhere we’ve been,” says the Virginian Rookie. “If we weren’t in the top-10, it’s not because of my team, but of some sort of car issue, like engine problems or getting tangled up on the race track.” (more…)
