BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 23, 2013 – Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., ended the 42nd UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment on a high note, capturing Saturday night’s 50-lap WoO LMS A-Main for his first-ever victory in World of Outlaws Late Model Series action at Volusia Speedway Park.

The defending WoO LMS champion outdueled Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., to assume command for good on lap 17, but he was challenged repeatedly during the race’s second half by both McCreadie and Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., before pulling away following a final caution flag on lap 41.

Richards never seriously threatened Lanigan over the last nine circuits, crossing the finish line 0.990 of a second behind the victor. The runner-up finish sent Richards home with the WoO LMS points lead after a season-opening burst of eight events and he also was named the Late Model champion of the 2013 UNOH DIRTcar Nationals by Summit, earning himself a unique bronze gator-shaped trophy. Moyer Holds On For World of Outlaws Late Model Series Victory Friday Night At Volusia Speedway Park

Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Adds To Alltime Record Win Total In UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit

BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 22, 2013 – Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., added to his alltime record win total in the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment, holding on for a hard-fought victory in Friday night’s 50-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main at Volusia Speedway.

Righting a frustrating week of action at the half-mile oval, Moyer passed WoO LMS rookie Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky., for the lead on lap 11 and never looked back. He repelled repeated late-race challenges from defending tour champion Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., to secure the $10,200 triumph.

“We’ve had a rough (week) down here,” said Moyer, whose forgettable outings leading up to Friday’s checkered flag included the WoO LMS A-Main the previous evening when he was forced out of action on lap one by a broken tie-rod. “It feels good to finally get this one under our belt.”

Moyer, 55, made the right moves in lapped traffic to put some critical space on Lanigan and crossed the finish line 1.368 seconds ahead of York, Pa.’s Rick Eckert, who slipped by Lanigan on lap 48 to earn the runner-up spot for the second consecutive night. Lanigan settled for a third-place finish after starting from the pole position, Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., started and finished fourth and Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., placed fifth for his fifth top-five run in seven WoO LMS events this season. Laubach Launches to First Volusia Win in Super DIRTcar Series Feature

For Nine Years, Rick Laubach Traveled from Pennsylvania to Florida, Hoping to Score a Victory His Whole Family Could Watch

BARBERVILLE, FLA – February 23, 2013 – When Rick Laubach pulled his Enders-powered No. 7 TEO chassis out of victory lane yesterday, a crowd of a couple dozen people followed him. His extended family gathered around his pit stall after the race to help him celebrate his first-ever win in the state.

“My family lives down in Fort Lauderdale,” said Lauter, of Quakertown, Penn. “When I come here it’s like a little bit of a reunion. I get to see my niece, my sister, and everybody. My parents come down and it’s fun.”

They were all there to watch him beat Big Block Modified legend Danny Johnson to the finish line Friday, Feb. 22, for the third of four Super DIRTcar Series feature events during UNOH DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park.

“It really feels awesome. I knew we felt good tonight coming here and it couldn’t get any better,” said Laubach, who has competed in UNOH DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment for nine years. “It means a little more to us, I guess.”

Laubach’s success started early Friday, clocking the fastest lap in timed hot laps at 17.610 seconds. He won his heat and a lucky redraw let him pick the outside pole starting position. He took the lead at the green, and kept it through 30 laps and four cautions. (more…)

Bloomquist Finds Winning Combination In Opener Of World of Outlaws Late Model Series Tripleheader At Volusia Speedway Park

Tennessee Star Moves Into Second Place On Alltime UNOH DIRTcar Nationals By Summit Victory List

BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 21, 2013 – Scott Bloomquist believed he had a winning car after capturing a World of Outlaws Late Model Series heat race on Thursday night during the 42nd UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway.

The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer from Mooresburg, Tenn., then proved it in the 50-lap A-Main, charging by race-long pacesetter Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky., for the lead on lap 37 and pulling away to win the first WoO LMS event of the mid-winter motorsports extravaganza outside Daytona Beach.

Bloomquist, 49, raced unchallenged once in front, crossing the finish line 3.260 seconds ahead of York, Pa.’s Rick Eckert. Eckert slid by Wells for the runner-up spot on lap 48, and moments later Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., passed Wells to secure a third-place finish.

The 24-year-old Wells, who is chasing the 2013 WoO LMS Rookie of the Year award, settled for a career-best tour finish of fourth after starting from the outside pole and leading laps 1-36. Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., completed the top five, salvaging a fifth-place finish after starting 22nd, climbing as high as fourth and then restarting at the rear after his involvement in a multi-car tangle on lap 31 forced him to pit.

Bloomquist’s $10,200 triumph was the ninth of his career during the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals by Summit, moving him into sole possession of second place on the event’s alltime win list behind Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., an 18-time DNC winner who started third in Thursday’s A-Main but retired after one lap due to a broken right-front tie-rod. He has won at least once during the DCN in each of the last three years.

“I felt pretty confident we had something for ‘em,” Bloomquist said of his mindset entering the evening’s headliner. “The car was just awesome. (It) was wrecked really bad last night on both ends, but we worked all night, fixed this thing and got it right.” (more…)

Minimum $8000 to Win on tap for JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Event presented by Chevrolet Performance

(LEBANON, Mo.) – As many tracks sent out their 2013 racing schedules, Lebanon I-44 Speedway track officials were still hard at work finalizing an exciting slate that now has another premier event on the docket. Missouri’s only asphalt oval will be playing host to the marquee event for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars presented by Chevrolet Performance for the 2013 season on Saturday, May 18. The touring series visits the NASCAR-sanctioned facility for an astonishing, minimum $8,000 to win, $600 to start in the Mercy “Masters of the Pros” 144 late model showcase.  Besides taking home the record top prize, the winner will don a signature green jacket, similar to the one that is known for adorning the champion of golf’s Masters event.

“This is the type of event that not only draws a crowd, but some premier drivers as well,” said Lebanon I-44 Speedway general manager Kevin Greven. “Combined with a great partner in Mercy Hospital, this will be the type of showcase event that attracts top talent from across the Midwest and the Southeastern regions. By A Tooth! Schrader Gets UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Gator Championship Win

NASCAR Veteran Bags $5,000 and Short Track Dirt Racing’s Most Unique Trophy

BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 18, 2013 – Ken Schrader charged from 10th to victory in the Gator Championship, denying Austin Dillon by a nose at the checkered flag Monday night during the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park.

Schrader swept into the lead midway through the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win showcase for DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, but had his hands full with Dillon charging off the final corner to the finish.

“Austin was right there at the end and I kind of started babying it the last three or four laps there because I didn’t want to pop the front end on the cushion,” said Schrader, of Concord, N.C. “He (Dillon) said his motor went sour and that allowed him to run the bottom a little better, but yeah we’ll take it.”

Justin Allgaier, who grew up racing on dirt before moving into the NASCAR Nationwide Series, led the first 12 laps of the main event, relinquishing the lead to Dale Mathison of Clearwater, Minn., on lap 13 and 14. Allgaier reclaimed the lead on the 15th circuit before Schrader made his move one lap later and held on over the remaining 14 laps for the victory.

Richards Rampages To Victory In UNOH DIRTcar Nationals by Summit UMP Super Late Model Opener At Volusia Speedway Park

Two-Time World of Outlaws Late Model Series Champion Charges Forward From 10th Starting For $7,000 Score

BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 18, 2013 – Josh Richards was a man on a mission Monday night at Volusia Speedway Park.

Rampaging forward from the 10th starting spot, Richards passed Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., for the lead on lap 18 and marched on to a convincing victory in the 30-lap DIRTcar UMP Super Late Model A-Main that opened the full-fender portion of the 42nd UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

Richards, 24, earned $7,000 for his sixth career triumph during the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals but first since 2010 when he captured the World of Outlaws Late Model Series season opener. He won the national tour’s lidlifter held during Volusia’s mid-winter racing meet every year from 2007-2010.

Francis, 45, settled for a runner-up finish in the Bowyer Motorsports Barry Wright car after starting from the pole position and leading laps 1-17. He ended the race trailing Richards’s Valvoline-sponsored Rocket Chassis house car by 1.387 seconds.

Donnie Moran of Dresden, Ohio, started and finished third in a MasterSbilt machine. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., also finished in the same position he started, driving his self-built Team Zero car under the checkered flag in fourth place after outdueling Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., who completed the top five in the Sweeteners Plus Rocket. Richards Blasts To $20,000-Plus Victory In Inaugural ‘Super Sunday Showdown’ At Bubba Raceway Park

Two-Time World of Outlaws Late Model Series Champ Dominates Bubba Army Late Model Winter Nationals Finale

OCALA, FL – Feb. 17, 2013 – Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., closed the second annual Bubba Army Late Model Winter Nationals with a flourish, blasting to a convincing victory in the inaugural 75-lap ‘Super Sunday Showdown’ at Bubba Raceway Park.

The two-time World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion seized command of the event for good on lap 18, steering his Valvoline-sponsored Rocket Chassis house car by Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., in a powerful sweep through turns three and four. He turned back a late threat from Scott James of Bright, Ind., en route to his second win of 2013 on the national tour and a lucrative payday of $20,650.

James battled brake problems in his Warrior Chassis house car over the final laps but held on to finish a WoO LMS career-best second, 3.311 seconds behind Richards. He marched forward from the 11thstarting spot to race in the runner-up spot from lap 34 to the checkered flag.

Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., who started fourth and ran in the top five throughout the event, went a bit too hard with his tire-compound selection but still placed third in Larry Moring’s MasterSbilt machine. Rick Eckert of York, Pa., who won the finale of last year’s Winter Nationals, finished a season-high fourth in his Team Zero by Bloomquist car and 16th-starter Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., scored a season-best finish of fifth in his Rocket.

Richards, who started third, ran second behind polesitter Owens until slipping briefly into the lead on lap nine. Owens regained command the following circuit but couldn’t repel the hard-charging Richards, who made his deciding move for the top spot on lap 18. (more…)

Lasoski Logs Record 20th Victory at Volusia Speedway Park

Pittman earns overall title at UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit

BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 17, 2013 – There was at least one happy dude parked in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Victory Lane on a frigid Sunday night.  It was the winningest dude in Volusia Speedway Park history, ‘The Dude’ – Danny Lasoski – who picked up his first win of the season and 20th career at the half mile to conclude the sprint car week at the 42nd annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

“I really like this place,” he said wearing a big grin.

Lasoski shared the spotlight with Daryn Pittman, who was crowned the overall champion of the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit and received a unique three-foot, bronzed gator trophy. His win, runner-up and fifth-place finish during the three-day event – which combined qualifying, heat races and feature points – earned enough points to edge Paul McMahan by 18.

“We had a conversation on our way down here between me and the whole crew on what our goals were for the year and the No. 1 goal was to come here and win that gator,” Pittman said. “I’m just having a lot of fun. Just a great way to start the year off accomplishing one of our goals that we had set out.”

As impressive as Pittman’s weekend was, including a late rally from ninth to fifth in the final three laps on Sunday, Lasoski stole the show to win a wild feature. With the temperature at 35 degrees when the cars were pushed onto the track for the main event, it sure heated up quickly. (more…)
