Jimmy Owens Earns First Win of the Season at LaSalle Speedway

Jimmy OwensLa Salle, IL (May 17, 2014) – The 3-time and defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Jimmy Owens scored his first series win of the season on Saturday Night at LaSalle Speedway. Owens survived a classic side-by-side battle with Jared Landers after over taking Scott Bloomquist for second. Owens then tracked down race leader Landers and forged ahead for good on lap 37. Owens then pulled away to a comfortable lead to take the Spring Shootout victory. Trailing Owens and Landers to the finish line were, Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson Jr., and Don O'Neal

"I can't say enough about this car. The last few races, we've been solid, and tonight we were finally able to get to victory lane. I want to thank the track crew, it's good to see a track promoter take the time and rework the track. With all the rain they had this week, they smoothed it out and you could run anywhere on it," said Owens, who became the 12th different winner in 15 event races this year.

"Landers was tough tonight. He drove a very good race, and we ran side-by-side there for several laps. I hope it was a good show for the fans tonight. We got off to a rough start in the feature, but we were able to settle down. Scott [Bloomquist] and I had a really good battle for second. He'd get by me, then the next lap I'd get him back. It was just a great night for our Mike Reece team and all of our sponsors. We feel like we are hitting our stride now," said the winner afterwards.

Bloomer VIVIAN, LA (April 5, 2014) – Scott Bloomquist raced to his 47th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win on Saturday Night at ARK-LA-TEX Speedway in thrilling fashion. Bloomquist took the lead on the 48th lap and led Ray Moore and Ryan Gustin to the checkered flag in a close finish. “This is our first time here,” said Bloomquist, who became the 10thdifferent winner in 11 LOLMDS races this season. “I heard the racing would be two and three wide easily here. Well it is definitely true! I hope the crowd enjoyed that one. Our Sweet-Bloomquist car has been good all year. I have to thank Hawkeye Trucking, Durham Racing Engines, Lucas Oil Products, and Penske Shocks.”

“The track in the heat races was great and we could run anywhere, then the top started getting dominant during the feature. We set up our car for the end with our tire choice. When we caught him (Moore), there were a few cars in front of us, and I just picked the right line to get by him. He drove a heck of a race, we had just enough laps to catch him and pass him,” said Bloomquist afterwards. (more…)

Davey Johnson Wins Thriller at East Bay Raceway Park

sat7TAMPA, FL (February 15, 2014) – Davey Johnson returned to East Bay Raceway Park’s victory lane tonight, for the first time since the 2001. The veteran driver took the lead on lap 12 and held off a hard charging Earl Pearson Jr. in the closing laps for his first career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win. Trailing Johnson and Pearson to the finish line in the 38th Winternationals finale was Don O’Neal, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Jimmy Owens.

“We had to work on the car most of the night to get it ready for today. I want to thank Austin Hargrove, we brought him in during the off-season and he has made a big difference in our race team. Our business slowed down a little last year, and we were able to travel more and run some bigger shows. I think we are ready for a really good season,” said Johnson.

“We have always liked coming down here to East Bay. The last time we won here was in the Rocket House Car in 2001. The track was really racy tonight! Our car worked better on the bottom, and then we moved up the track late in the race, and it was still fast. Man, it feels good to win here again.” (more…)

Bobby Pierce Takes First Career East Bay Win on Saturday Afternoon

Pierce-Wed-WinnerTAMPA, FL – Bobby Pierce took the lead at the start of the race and never looked back as he went on to win Saturday afternoon at East Bay Raceway Park. It was Pierce’s first ever win at East Bay as well as his first career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory. Pierce was followed across the finish line by Gregg Satterlee, Steve Francis, Billy Moyer, Jr., and Eddie Carrier Jr.

“It feels great to win here at East Bay. My dad never won here. We have been coming down here for three years now and to finally break through with this win, I don’t know what to say,” said the 17-year-old, who became the second youngest driver to win a Winternationals event in a Late Model at East Bay.

“I am going to have to text my buddy Tyler Reddick, and tell him I won. He is the youngest to win here [when he was 15], so I have to rub it in a little. It was important to win that first heat and get the pole. We have had a tough week with our other car. I am not sure if something is bent on it or what, so we brought this one out today. If dad let’s me, I guess I should drive it tonight,” said the winner.

“My biggest challenge today was to conserve tires. Obviously, in a day race there was no moisture out there. You have to drive the car straighter. Traffic wasn’t too bad out there. I kept some distance between myself and the last place car for a while, and then I thought I had better get going. I knew someone was close behind me, so I had to pick up the pace a little bit,” said the driver of the Pierce Posse, Champion, Bob Pierce Race Cars, Pro Power Racing Engines, Chevrolet. (more…)
