Rico Abreu Earns Back-to-Back Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Titles

Rico Wins 2016 Chili BowlTULSA, Okla. (January 16, 2016) For the second time in as many years, the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire was ruled over by California’s Rico Abreu, who wheeled the Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 97 to victory in the 30th edition of the Chili Bowl.

With a packed house of nearly 20,000 in attendance at the River Spirit Expo Center, the chant of “Rico, Rico” soon followed a series of wicked celebratory doughnuts.

Giving chase from the fourth starting spot, Abreu was among the first of the front runners to test the high groove on the freshly prepped Tulsa Expo Raceway as team mate, Christopher Bell, led the charge until contact with a slower car on Lap 9 sent the No. 71 spinning; sending Bell to the tail of the field.

Handing the lead over to Bryan Clauson, the Indiana shoe for Joe Dooling looked poised to back up 2014 performance, pulling to as much as 2.6 seconds over second place, Zach Daum.

Finding traffic near the races midpoint, Daum with Abreu in tow began running down Bryan Clauson. Staying topside, while Clauson wheeled the low groove, the trio were all very evenly matched at this point. Able to again being pulling away, Clauson sat safely as Rico and Zach began exchanging slide jobs prior to the caution on Lap 43 of 55. (more…)

Lanigan Lands Round Five Wild West Shootout Laurels!

Lannigan-WWS-011616Lonnie Wheatley, TUCSON, Ariz. (January 16, 2016) – Darrell Lanigan became the third different driver to reach Super Late Model victory lane at USA Raceway’s Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout presented by Black Diamond-Club 29 Race Cars series by winning Saturday night’s 30-lapper in convincing fashion atop the 3/8-mile clay oval.

While Lanigan’s $5,000 triumph broke up the domination by Jonathan Davenport and Don O’Neal, who have each claimed a pair of victories, Todd Schute bested the Modifieds and Brandon Farrington topped the X Mods.

Starting third in the Super Late Model main event, Lanigan slipped under Jason Krohn on the fifth round and then denied some mid-race pressure from Ryan Gustin before racing away to secure his first victory with the Clint Bowyer Racing team.

Lanigan’s triumph put a halt to any chance of a driver cashing in on the Keyser Quarter Million Bonus that offered $250,000 to win all six races, $100,000 for five wins or $50,000 for four wins. Davenport and O’Neal both still had a shot at four wins going into the night. (more…)
