Moyer Takes Battle at the Beach 50 at Tri-City Speedway

PONTOON BEACH, IL (July 13, 2012) – Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR took the gloves off, and is taking home the trophy for the Battle of the Beach 50 at Tri-City Speedway. He led the first 17 laps of the race until O’Neal powered ahead of him, coming from his 12th starting spot to take the lead on lap 18. O’Neal then led Moyer until his left rear tire went flat on lap 27.

Moyer and pole setter Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN paced the field for the first 13 circuits of the race. The first caution of the race came out for Billy Moyer Jr. on lap 13, and momentarily halted a good battle for the lead in traffic between and the defending series champion, Owens and Moyer. On the restart, O’Neal, who was up to fifth place, shot to the bottom of the track and took over second on lap 14.

With O’Neal’s demise from the lead Moyer paced the field over the last 22 laps of the race. He saw a green-white-checkered finish when Tyler Reddick brought out the final caution with two laps remaining. Moyer then held off Owens for his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series triumph of 2012 and his 15th career LOLMDS victory.

“We always like coming here, ever since they reconfigured the race track a few years ago. It’s just the perfect size, and to win here again is just tremendous! Kevin (Gundaker) and his staff do a great job here,” said the Hall of Fame driver. (more…)

Wallace, a widely known NASCAR driver and SPEED TV analyst, drove around Tyler Nicely of Owensboro, Ky., on lap two after the duo raced side by side on the opening lap. Wallace earned $700 for the win.

“The thing was when we went single file we started second and I knew my only chance was to drive it down into turn one like Jack Hewitt,” explained Wallace. “I knew Tyler was going to go to the bottom so my only chance is to pounce on it on the outside.”

“My car was really good tonight, my crew chief Billy Smith ordered some new parts and I guess they worked because it had incredible forward bite,” Wallace said. “I’m really excited for the win because it’s at a legendary track and we earned it.” (more…)

O’Neal Slides to Terre Haute Action Track DIRTcar Summer Nationals Victory

Terre Haute, Ind. – July 12, 2012 – Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., captured his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals win of 2012 Thursday night at the Terre Haute Action Track worth $5,000.

(For late breaking news from the DIRTcar Summer Nationals ‘Hell Tour’, click here to follow along on Twitter.)

O’Neal used a strong restart on lap 20 to tail leader Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., before making a lap 22 pass for the lead when Sheppard slipped over the cushion exiting turn two.

“We got the job done though, after the way we’ve struggled. My guys have worked really hard and it’s paying off.” (more…)

The Australian Wins his Third Feature in the Last 11 World of Outlaws Events

LIMA, Ohio – July 11, 2012 – Initially, Kerry Madsen was just hoping to survive Wednesday night.

In the end, the Australian stood atop the podium at Limaland Motorsports Park after claiming the 40-lap feature, which was filled with slide jobs and close calls at the Ohio Logistics 24th annual Brad Doty Classic Presented by Racing Optics.

It is Madsen’s third World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature victory in the last 11 events and he became the seventh different driver to win in the last seven Outlaws races at the tight, quarter-mile track.

“It was pretty intense in the seat,” he said. “Ironically, I thought if we could get out of here with a top 10 I’d be excited. To get a victory is awesome.”

Stevie Smith, who started on the pole by virtue of a dominating dash victory, rocketed to the early feature lead with Sam Hafertepe Jr. in tow. Madsen, who started on the outside of Smith, passed Hafertepe Jr. for the runner-up position around lap five and began to chase down Smith once the duo entered traffic. (more…)

Punta Gorda Cancels Races for This Weekend, June 30th

PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- The worst of Tropical Storm Debby has left the  Punta Gorda area, allowing City officials to reopen most streets. High tide  hit the City at about 9:40 a.m. today, and it didn’t cause the same heavy  flooding that had resulted in numerous street closures throughout the last 72  hours. Most streets will remain open unless conditions deteriorate. City officials will be monitoring the streets, especially during high tides and  heavy rain falls.

With that being said, the speedways front parking area is one of  the areas under water, as it sits somewhat lower than the new road that was  put in cutting across the front of the speedway.  As of now, it is unsafe to drive into  the speedways parking lots and it will take more than a day or 2 of no rain at  all to become safe to drive on. The speedway owner will not put the fans or  drivers in an unsafe situation and regrets that this week’s racing for June  30th will have to be cancelled. All races and championship night  will be rescheduled for July 7th .

Punta Gorda Speedway  regrets any inconvenience this has  caused, but it is out of our hands and we will keep rescheduling until we get  this huge championship night of racing in. The Punta Gorda Speedway would like to  thank our drivers, crews and fans for their continued support and look forward  to seeing everyone at our mid-season championship.
