Wiener Nationals Highlight End Of The 6th Month

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media – 8-25-12 (Ocala, FL) The Wiener Nationals came to Bubba Raceway Park for the first time in it’s 5-year history and “The Longdogs” put on a great charitable show. RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators also put on a wonderful night of racing.

Wiener Nationals were very exciting but no one could catch Wilhelm “Willie” Linebarier as he took title #4 with ease over a strong group of dogs including 2nd place Gator from the Sullivan Racing group and the 3rd placed Hammond Motorsports’ non-breed winner Lexi.

Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds started with Jeff Mathews leading a 1-2 for Mathews Motorsports. We’d go 3 laps before Bubba Christian spun on the backstretch. Dalton Lanich and Garret Stewart made contact on the restart which left Lanich very slow (though he would continue on) and stacked up Jim Passino, Gary Sexton, Wayne Hammond, Bubba Christian, and Chuck Gustafson, Jr. Mathews Motorsports led with Mathews leading Lloyd and Kyle Bronson sat in 3rd. LAWRENCEBURG, IN (August 25, 2012) – Reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champion, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN picked up his fourth series win of the season on

Saturday Night. Owens led every lap in capturing the “Whiskey City 50” presented by Sign-A-Rama before a huge crowd at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN finished second, followed by John Blankenship of Williamson, WV.

Landers appeared early on to be the only car who could hang with Owens, but Blankenship powered to second position on lap 16 around Landers. By that point of the race, Owens had already built a sizable advantage over the field. Blankenship tried to make-up ground on Owens and was closing in on the leader when a caution for debris slowed the action for the first and only time during the race. (more…)

Stewart wins SOD race at Plymouth Speedway Bullring

Racing fans were given a special treat at the Plymouth Speedway Saturday night as Tony Stewart competed in the ARP Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Battle at the Bullring presented by Hastings Manufacturing, Mahle/Clevite and Melling Engine Parts.

The three-time NASCAR champion won the 30-lap feature, leading wire to wire and holding off Ryan Grubaugh in the homestretch to seal the win as Grubaugh spun off the 1/5-mile dirt oval and onto the asphalt in turn three of the final lap challenging Stewart. ASCS SOD point leader Gregg Dalman finished second, Steve Irwin placed third, and Grubaugh salvaged a fourth-place finish in the feature.  “I was a little worried I gave that one away,” Stewart said from Victory Lane after the race. “I could see (Grubaugh) down there, and I was getting a little worried I opened up the door for him.” Stewart, who supplements his busy NASCAR schedule with Sprints On Dirt and other non-NASCAR events throughout the summer, took time out to sign autographs in the pit area following his feature win. He was originally scheduled to make his SOD debut at the Plymouth Speedway back on June 16 but was forced to reschedule after untimely showers rained out the event. (more…)

Grossenbacher Tops Super Late Models at Citrus County Speedway

Citrus County Speedway roared back to life this past Saturday night, after taking a week off to beat the summer heat. Citrus County Speedway fans were treated to 78 cars and drivers filling the pit area for an action packed night of racing.

13 Super Late Models took the green for their 35 lap feature event with Scott Grossenbacher (09) on the pole position and Randy Anderson (4) along side. You had the feeling that which ever driver won the drag race to turn 1, would go on to take the victory. Grossenbacher would win that drag race, moving to the lead before lap 1 was completed. Anderson would try to keep pace with Grossenbacher, hoping for a mistake by the leader. That mistake would never come, and the race would go green for the entire 35 lap distance. Grossenbacher would go on to take his 1st feature win of the 2012 season, with Anderson settling for a distant 2nd. Drew Brannon (82) was you biggest mover of the race, coming from the 10th starting spot, to take home the 3rd position at the checkers. (more…)
