Billy Moyer Survives Battle with Blankenship to Win Friday Night at East Bay

Erb-Winner-2-13-141TAMPA, FL (February 14, 2014) – Billy Moyer survived a back-and-forth battle with John Blankenship to win the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event on Friday Night at East Bay Raceway Park. Moyer denied Blankenship’s first ever win at East Bay by taking the lead with eight laps to go from Blankenship and went unchallenged the remaining laps. With his win Moyer scored his 778th win of his career. Blankenship finished second, followed by Scott Bloomquist, Don O’Neal, and Gregg Satterlee rounded out the top five.

“The car was just phenomenal all night long. When he (Blankenship) got around me, I thought I was in trouble. There was a bunch of heavy traffic, and I lost contact with him. That caution about halfway through the race really helped me,” said Moyer.

“On the restart I was able to stay with him [Blankenship]. It looked like his car was going away a little bit, then we had that last caution with nine to go, and I was thinking I had a real good shot at him. We were able to get out of the corners better than him. His [Blankenship’s] car would drift up the track, and that’s when we passed him,” said Moyer. (more…)

Bronson Edges Dillon for DIRTcar Nationals UMP Modified Victory

Saldana holds off McMahan in sprint cars during 12-day event at Volusia

021314_webgraphicBARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 13, 2014 – Kyle Bronson edged Ty Dillon, and Joey Saldana held off Paul McMahan, during the DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment on Thursday night at Volusia Speedway Park.

As the early leaders in the 20-lap DIRTcar UMP Modified feature found trouble, Bronson kept pushing to the front, eventually moving to the high side of the half-mile oval and edging NASCAR Nationwide driver Ty Dillon by 0.28 at the checkered flag.

“He went with a harder tire and I figured they would be better on the longer runs, but I think my softer tire worked better on the shorter run,” said Bronson, of Brandon, Fla. “Everybody acts like they’ve been given everything, but I’ve raced with them and they’re the best in the business, they should have been in NASCAR a long time ago.”

Earlier in the night, World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series regular Saldana showed off some newfound horsepower as he led the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions main event from wire-to-wire, topping his good friend, McMahan, in the process. Saldana and his Motter Motorsports team came together quickly before last season and struggled early. Now a year under their belts, Saldana has been one of the fastest cars on the track this February. (more…)

Dennis Erb Wins a Wild One at East Bay on Thursday Night

Erb-Winner-2-13-141TAMPA, FL (February 13, 2014) – Dennis Erb Jr. earned his first victory of the season on Thursday Night at East Bay Raceway Park. Erb had a fierce battle all race long and finally overtook Billy Moyer for the lead with seven laps to go in the 38th Annual Winternationals event. The race was broadcasted live on MAVTV American Real Network. Trailing Erb and Moyer to the checkers were Jimmy Owens, Scott Bloomquist, and Brandon Sheppard.

“It feels great to beat Billy [Moyer] here and get a win for C.J. Rayburn and Rayburn Race Cars. The last few years we’ve really ran well here. We just got this car at the beginning of January and rushed to get it together to bring it down to Golden Isles and East Bay. When he [Moyer] started running that high-line through one and two, I thought maybe I had a shot at him,” said the winner in Lucas Oil Victory Lane with his Crew Chief, Heather Lyne.

“We got by him a couple of times early on, but never took the lead at the flag stand. Those couple of cautions there really helped me. Then he [Moyer] started going up the track in turn two to get around that hole up there. We stayed glued to the bottom and eventually we were able to get by him,” said the driver of the JR McBride Leasing, Kuntz and Company-powered #28E C.J. Rayburn Race Car. (more…)

Billy Moyer Masters East Bay on Tuesday Night

Moyer-Winner-2-11-14TAMPA, FL (February 11, 2014) – Billy Moyer raced to victory on Tuesday Night at East Bay Raceway Park. Moyer took the lead from Steve Francis on lap 22 and led the rest of the way in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned East Bay Winternationals.
It was Moyer’s 22nd win at East Bay, which is the most of any Late Model driver in the history of the Winternationals. Francis finished second, followed by Brandon Sheppard, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Don O’Neal rounded out the top five.
“This car has been good all year,” said Moyer, as he stood next to his new Longhorn Chassis racecar. “It’s been great to be working with the Labonte’s, Earl Pearson Jr., Kevin Rumley, and Matt Langston. Trying to catch Steve (Francis) was going to be tough after he got off to a good start, but we were eventually able to run him down.”
“”We felt like last night, we had a car that could win, and then it kind of got away from us at the end. We worked hard all day on the car, made some changes, and it paid off. I would like to thank Henderson Motorsports, Banner Valley Hauling, Sparks Motorsports, Sunoco Race Fuels and everyone else with the race team. The Clements Racing Engine under the hood was just phenomenal tonight.” (more…)

Strickler Tops NASCAR Stars In DIRTcar Nationals Thriller

Austin Dillon, Kenny Wallace pace field early during Volusia opener

021114_DCN_Graphic_600x400BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Feb. 11, 2014 — On a night when NASCAR superstars invaded Volusia Speedway Park to race DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, it was Kyle Strickler battling back against Jeff Babcock on Tuesday to claim the first victory of the 43rd Annual DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

Austin Dillon and Kenny Wallace paced the field early in the 20-lap main event, but Strickler and Babcock worked their way to the front, swapped the lead back and forth before Strickler finally powered to the lead for good with two laps to go in the opener of the 12-night event.

“Usually on a racetrack this fast you don’t see racing that good,” said Strickler, of Mooresville, N.C. “Jeff and I hung out at Eldora and he’s a hell of a racer. I knew he would race me clean. This is probably one of the fastest racetracks I’ve raced on. It’s an amazing feat for us to come down here and do this well right off the bat.
As fast as Dillon and Wallace were early in the A-main, it was impressive the way Strickler and Babcock continued to push forward.

“They put their race suits on just like we do,” Strickler said. “The stuff they do on Sunday is completely different. I commend those guys for coming out, Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, the Dillons. If you look at the speed charts they were way out in front of us in the beginning, but the track came to us, the car came to me.” (more…)

Carrier earned his first career win at East Bay over Devin Moran, Brandon Sheppard, Brian Shirley, and Billy Moyer, Jr. Carrier’s Salt Rock Express is powered by a Grover Race Engines

“If we didn’t win tonight, we may never have another chance like this. When you set a new track record, win your heat, and lead every lap in the feature, it’s really awesome. It says a lot about our race team. My car owner, Carl Grover and my dad (Eddie Carrier Sr.) have been so instrumental in my career, I can’t thank them enough. This car has been so good out of the box this year, Rocket Chassis worked real hard at the end of last year on this design and this year it’s been superfast,” said the winner.

The younger Moran held his own for most of the distance, fighting off challenges from several drivers. “To run second with this group of drivers says a lot,” said the 19-year-old. “My dad (Donnie) told me to be patient. To out run guys like Billy Moyer, his son, Sheppard, and everybody else here… wow is all I can say.” (more…)

TAMPA, FL – Keith Nosbisch has been the most dominating driver in Crates this season at East Bay Raceway Park as well as being on top of his game when the Crates are front and center during the Winternationals.   So, it was no surprise that the Valrico driver was in victory lane holding the $5,000 winner’s check at the end of a 50-lapper Saturday night.

“I got this Rocket chassis near the end of last year,” said Nosbisch to Chris Stepan, the announcer for the race, ”and Jimmy Dodge built me a great engine that helped me make that bold move on Josh Peacock inside turn three and pull ahead in turn four to lead the second lap.  We went a little softer on our Hoosier tires, he said jokingly, and to get ready for tonight, I went to practice on a slick go-kart track this afternoon.”
Describing the track as a little rough through the middle,  he admitted he had to concentrate on hitting his marks and the 11 caution flags in the first 24 laps didn’t help.  But, during the second half of the race his Image Skin Care sponsored car had pretty much clear sailing.  Although he seemed to slow in the closing five laps, lapped cars kept second place Doug Horton from making a serious challenge for the lead and Nosbisch had a margin of victory of 1.410 seconds at the finish. Francis Dominates Finale at Golden Isles Speedway

Francis Golden IsleWAYNESVILLE, GA (February 8, 2014) – Steve Francis wins the final Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event of the Georgia Boot Super Bowl of Racing. Francis displayed his dominance as he led all 50 laps of the main event. The win at Golden Isles Speedway marks his 14th career series win.

Francis became the third different winner of the weekend, crossing the finish line ahead of Eddie Carrier Jr., Earl Pearson Jr., Scott Bloomquist, and Brandon Sheppard.

“I can’t say enough about this Barry Wright Race Car. It handled so well all night long. The only concern I had, was coming off turn four a few times was jumping the cushion and losing my momentum. I had to make sure I got into that corner the best I could,” said the winner.

“I think all weekend long, the track was in good condition and made for a great show for the fans. We could race anywhere on it. We had a lot of fun out there tonight. It was a great point’s night, and a really good start to the season.”

Francis and his Clint Bowyer Racing Team have set their sights on winning the title in 2014. “I have to thank Clint for giving me this opportunity. He gives us what we need, the Clements Racing Engine had plenty of horsepower and it’s great to win for Georgia Boot and everybody associated with them.” (more…)

Madden Wins Friday Night’s Running of the Georgia Boot Super Bowl of Racing

Chris Madden Golden IsleWAYNESVILLE, GA (February 7, 2014) – Chris Madden earns the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series main event victory on Friday Night at Golden Isles Speedway. Madden was dealing with a rapidly deflating right-rear tire in the final two laps of the Georgia Boot Super Bowl of Racing.

“I felt the tire going flat under the caution. I’m not sure if I ran over something to cause it to go flat, or if it was just worn out. I don’t know, but we were lucky to hold Don O’Neal off,” said Madden in Lucas Oil Victory Lane, “I have to thank my crew; this Bloomquist car ran terrific all day.” Madden claimed a sixth place finish in the afternoon race won by Jonathan Davenport.

“It was a little tedious there in traffic; our car was good getting into the corners, but a little tight off of them. I thought I had left the door open a little bit for whoever was behind me. With all the laps on the track today, you just have to be patient. I have to thank Clements Racing Engines, Century Plastics, Henderson Amusement, East Coast Entertainment, Hamrick’s of Gaffney, Xtreme Customs Cycles and Cushman Paint and Body Shop,” continued an excited Madden.
