Enfinger conquers Salem; takes first three wins of ARCA season

arca-logo-2010(SALEM, Ind.) – Grant Enfinger made ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards history Sunday afternoon, winning his third race to start the 2014 season, becoming just the second driver in series history to do so.

“The stars are just lining up for us,” Enfinger said. “It’s pretty unbelievable.”

After leading the first 100 laps of the Federated Auto Parts 200 presented by Crunch’N Nutter at Salem, Enfinger moved back to the front late in the race and took the lead when Ken Schrader hit the wall in turn one on the last re-start. Schrader was leading when the re-start began with Enfinger in second.

“I wanted the chance to drag race him to the finish,” Enfinger said. “I think he just blew a right front there. That’s what happened. It was a lot of fun racing up front against him.”

Spencer Gallagher finished second, Frank Kimmel third and Cunningham Motorsports drivers Austin Wayne Self (fourth) and Tom Hessert (fifth) rounded out the top five. (more…)

MOXLEY ROLLS TO MODIFIED WIN AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

Ricky MoxleyOrlando SpeedWorld was back in action Friday night with six classes putting on some great racing for the fans.  Headlining the show were the Open Wheel Modifieds and it was veteran driver Ricky Moxley of Hobe Sound taking his first win of the year in fine fashion by leading every circuit of the 25-lap feature.  Mosley breezed to the front on
the opening lap trailed by heat winner Zach Harris who stayed close for awhile before Moxley steadily began to pull away.  The race ran the full distance under green and Moxley took the checker in front of Harris and Travis Roland.  Earl Beckner was fourth ahead of Alan Bruns, Matt Wheeler and Austin Howell.

Becca Monopoli of Lakeland won her second straight Pro Truck feature leading all but the opening lap.  The only slow-down of the race came on lap seven when the engine expired in Whitney Poole’s truck while she was running second.  Eddie Lichtenberger would end up finishing in the runner-up spot ahead of Kelly Ross and Poole.  Monopoli also won the heat race.

Young Charles King, Jr. passed Shane Sutorus on lap four of the Four Cylinder Stock main event and never looked back in winning  the first-ever feature race of his brief career.  Driving a Chevy Cavalier, King easily outdistance the Saturn station wagon of Sutorus to take the victory.  Zachary Curtis, also in a Saturn, was third ahead of Paul Cornelius and John Gross.  Damien Kwaak, Jeff Gross, Red Ryder and Kendra Reynolds rounded out the finishers.  King was also the heat race winner. MicaShowTime Speedway (Pinellas Park, FL) April 19, 2014 – Florida Pro Truck driver Mica Williams, captured his first Pro Truck win in the first Southern Pro Am Truck Series’ Larry Moyer Memorial 81 Lap Pro Truck Race at ShowTime Speedway.  ShowTime Speedway’s packed house of racing fans and the friends and family of the late Larry Moyer endured the drizzle to watch an exciting Saturday night of Pro Truck racing.  Many of Moyer’s friends were in the pits working on the Pro Trucks while some strapped on their helmets to race.  Dave Pletcher and Bob Spaeth were two friends that raced in the Memorial Race.  Pletcher drove the number 74 Moyer Motorsports Pro Truck, and Spaeth, who drove the number 2 Pro Truck and finished eighth, wore one of Moyer’s old racing suits.

With a light rain drizzle, fourteen Pro Truck drivers started the main feature race to not only battle each other, but also to battle wet track conditions.  Mica Williams’ driving skills were showcased as he worked past local fan favorite Jay Zolciak and held off fierce competitors in Becca Monopoli and Jessica Murphy.  Williams brought home $3,000, was fitted for a Championship Lug Nut Ring and he earned additional bonus money for leading at the halfway mark.   An anonymous and close friend of the late Larry Moyer donated the bonus money for the halfway leader. KORPI TOPS E-MOD 50 – LIRA WINS IN PRO LATES AT NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY

winner 4-18-14

It was a nice and breezy Easter Eve at New Smyrna Speedway Saturday night and along with a big Easter Egg hunt for the kids, there was plenty of great Stock Car Racing action for both young and old alike.  The big event of the evening was a 50-lap showdown for the E-Modifieds and it was defending track champion Jarrett Korpi of Deltona making it known early on that his would be the car to beat as he topped the rest of the competitors in qualifying with a lap of 19.367 seconds with Earl “Junior” Beckner his closest challenger at 19.542.
The pill draw was a two that meant Korpi and Beckner would simply swap starting spots on the front row for the feature.  At the drop of the green, Korpi wasted little time taking the top spot while Beckner was forced to come from the back of the starting grid because he was late to line up on pit road.  Korpi continued to set a hot pace but Cody Blair was not far behind in second until his car shut off on lap seven and he coasted to a stop.  Blair made it back to the pits where his crew quickly diagnosed the problem and he returned to the race.  Korpi maintained his advantage following the restart but Beckner was now up to second and beginning to apply some pressure.  Roger Benton spun in turn two on lap 16 to bring out the yellow once again.  On the restart, Beckner powered to the front and began to pull away.  On lap 35, Beckner got loose and spun coming off turn two but managed not to hit anything or be collected by anyone else.  Beckner restarted from the rear of the field leaving Korpi in charge once again.  From that point, Korpi pretty much had it in cruise control as he claimed his third win of the new season over Blair and Matthew Green.  Beckner, battling an extremely loose race car, held on to take fourth just ahead of Robert Glover.  Benton, Jim Higginbotham, Mike Dahm, Jon Compagnone and George Dahm rounded out the finishing field.
