Mike Peters Open Brings The Best In The Business To Bubba Raceway Park

2012 Ivedent Lloyd Mike Peters OpenOcala, FL- The Bubba Army Late Models will race in the Third Annual Mike Peters Open at the track Peters saved in the mid-2000’s with a $5000 prize up for grabs. For the second consecutive week, it will be a United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series race. Our very own Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds will run for $3000, the Hobby Stocks and 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks will fight it out for a $500 reward, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will return as well.
Mike Peters, a U.S. Army veteran, is credited with the revival of Bubba Raceway Park in the mid-2000’s, and rightfully so. After putting a piloting career to the side, Peters worked tirelessly to save the oldest race track in Florida. In 2008, he did the unthinkable by throwing dirt on top of the asphalt that had been put down in the early 1990’s. Needless to say, the decision was the right one as the 3/8 mile track became the place to be for Friday night racing. In early 2011, Peters negotiated a deal with Bubba The Love Sponge and completed his role in the revival of the oldest race track in Florida. Bubba opened his reign on May 13, 2011- yes, a Friday the 13th!- with the First Annual Mike Peters Open which was won by Tyler Ivey of Talahassee, Florida. Last season, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. won the race that had been rescheduled for April. (more…)

Mark McFarland Out Duels Clay Rogers in Closing Laps of Dean Custom Air 250 to Win at Myrtle Beach

mcfarland_winnerFans were on their feet in the closing laps of the Dean Custom Air 250 as veterans Mark McFarland and Clay Rogers fought hard over the lead in the closing laps, providing great entertainment for the large crowd in attendance at Myrtle Beach Speedway. McFarland was able to pass the current point’s leader, Rogers, on lap 246 to take the win for the second race in a row. The win did not come easy for McFarland as he was forced to come through the field after the series redraw of the top eight drivers at the event’s halfway point. JP Morgan completed the veteran sweep at the podium with youngsters Gus Dean and Reid Wilson rounding out the top five.

“What a race out there tonight, that was some of the best fun I’ve had behind the wheel of a racecar in a long time. Racing with Clay over the last fifty laps or so was really intense. I kept racing him hard and taking away his line, so hopefully he would burn up his tires and I would have the advantage at the end and evidently it worked,” explained an excited Mark McFarland in Edlebrock Victory Lane. “A big thank you goes to JMI Motorsports and Mark Huff for letting me drive this #8 car, and the folks at Black’s Tire and WJP Investments for sponsoring us here tonight. We had enough grip in our tires to get the win tonight, so go on over to Black’s Tire and get you some grip for your car and support these guys that allow us to put the show on like we did tonight.” (more…)

Webster Captures Regal Kia Chevy 100

1048686_604543276246694_1521683533_oThe Florida United Promoters Series after two months without a race, finally got one in at the tight 1/4 mile Auburndale Speedway on Saturdaynight with the running of the Regal Kia Chevy 100. With eighteen super late models on hand there was some good racing going on and Brooksville’s Daniel Webster hung on for his first series win in any touring group. By the inversion of the redraw, Ft. Lauderdale’s Patrick Starpoli started on the point with series regular Jessie Dutilly on the outside of the front row. Starpoli would set sail and lead the first twenty one laps before an ill handling car cost him the lead giving way to Webster. The always smooth young gun Webster took the lead and was never challenged, Dutilly and series points leader Wayne Anderson got close by had nothing for the #33 Webster’s Race Cars Chevrolet. Following Webster across the strip were, Anderson, Dutilly, Jonathan Guy and Billy Bigley who both came from the rear to complete the top five. (more…)

The Summer Spectacular At Bubba Raceway Park!

_MG_7424Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL- The Bubba Army Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and E-Mods all put on wonderful shows that kept the fans excited throughout the night.
Bubba Christian opened up the night from pole and he led through the first few cautions for minor spins. On lap fifteen, his Uncle Grady got around him and would not look back. Plenty of restarts kept everybody close, and with five to go it looked like Tim Powers had saved his equipment for the right time, but he got shuffled to the high side and never recovered. “The Altoona Assassins” put “The Big Lake Boys” back in their spots as Grady Christian led nephew Bubba across the line in a 1-2 for the Fastech team. Powers finished third, Dennis Williams ran as hisgh as second but slipped to fourth in the final rundown, and Brian Hansford completed the top five.
The E-Mods started off with three different leaders in three laps, Shane Taylor being the first of those three. Taylor gave way to Tim Grubaugh, Jr. only for Grubaugh to let David Whitener sneak in and steal the lead. Grubaugh and Taylor put the yellow out on lap three when Grubaugh got loose and spun both drivers out of turn four. Whitener couldn’t be stopped as he won convincingly over Shane Nichols. Shane Taylor finished third, Shawn Taylor was fourth, and Daryl Larson completed the top five.
Darrell Padgett took his machine to the front for the Late Models, and he stayed there until Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. made the most of a restart to overtake Padgett on lap twelve. A few minor cautions set up a lap twenty-eight restart on which Kyle Bronson stole the lead from “The Professor.” The final caution came out with eight to go after Tyler Clem’s #14 stopped on the backstretch while he was running well inside of the top ten. Lloyd had the lead back by lap forty-four, and won the fifty lapper for his first win of 2013 on his home turf. Bronson wound up second, right in front of Jason Fitzgerald. Tyler Ivey and Padgett rounded out the top five. (more…)

Victory At Cornwall Motor Speedway Gives Lanigan Sweep Of World of Outlaws Late Model Series Doubleheader In Canada

Defending Tour Champion Inherits Lead From McCreadie, Beats Resurgent Clint Smith To Finish Line

062313_CornwallVLCORNWALL, ONT – June 23, 2013 – Stick a maple leaf on Darrell Lanigan’s car and call him the King of Canada.

The defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion from Union, Ky., completed an undefeated trip north of the border with the national tour on Sunday night, outrunning the resurgent Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., down the stretch to capture the 50-lap A-Main at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

“I kind of like coming up here to Canada,” said Lanigan, whose $10,650 triumph backed up his WoO LMS score three days earlier at Brighton (Ont.) Speedway. “We always seem to run well at these tracks up here.”

Lanigan, 43, benefitted from a dose of good fortune to win his series-leading sixth race of 2013. After race-long leader Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., had his full straightaway edge over Lanigan wiped out by a lap-28 caution flag, the restart saw McCreadie slow on the homestretch due to a broken driveshaft and spin into the infield – a dramatic turn of events that handed the top spot to Lanigan for good.
